h e richness and the opportunities given by the liberal arts tradition are among the most valuable assets of AUBG. It was at AUBG that I discovered poetry after seeing my literature professor being moved to tears while reading a poem and it was again AUBG where I took my first steps in leadership as a member of the Student Government.
“I
believe that a great benefit of studying at AUBG was that liberal arts education exposed me to a variety of subjects and fields, while receiving focused knowledge in my chosen discipline.
“
AUBG alumni strive to make a difference in the region and the world. The majority of our graduates start their careers almost immediately in a variety of social, economic, IT and political spheres. Others continue their studies in master’s and doctoral degree programs at top universities in Europe and the U.S.

ADVENTURES IN BLAGOEVGRAD
Bulgaria is located in Southeast Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. Bordered by the Black Sea to the east and the Danube to the north, Bulgaria shares borders with Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia and Romania. Bulgaria is one of the most geographically diverse countries in Europe, and you can travel from seaside to ski slope in a single day. With many hiking trails, protected sites of historic interest, spas, wine trails and opportunities for eco-tourism and adventure sports, Bulgaria is one of Europe’s most exciting, hospitable (and affordable) destinations. The food is fresh and delicious too!
“The Rough Guide to Bulgaria” named Blagoevgrad the “coolest place in southwest Bulgaria,” and with good reason. It’s a small, vibrant university town within an hour’s reach of the capital Sofia. Here you’ll be spoiled with 2.5km of leafy park alley for strolling, nightclubs, an opera house, restaurants and a theater. Bulgaria’s most stunning natural attractions are within a one-hour drive: two world class ski resorts, the spa town of Sandanski, the Seven Rila Lakes, not to mention the off-road biking and rafting adventures nearby, and the breathtaking hiking trails a short walk from the campus.
