Operational Difficulty Skewed Expection Misinformation Lack of Awareness
Consumer behavior guides the design of technology. By looking at the whole picture we are designing technology that understand the difficulty in each stage of the process and how they transition into one another.
Intuitive to Use Understanding the boundaries Fully informed Engaged and motivated to learn
Target users crave for“smarter technology that requires less learning, less operating, and more intuitive designs. Target users also need to understand the technological boundaries of their camera to use it.
FROM PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
What is the best setting? • Shutter speed is the main concern of kid photography. • Shoot at a shutter speed of 1/500 sec • Some depth of field, f/5.6 • During the day, use at least ISO 200 at night ISO 600 to 800. • Shutter-priority mode • Try burst mode
“I personally feel the conundrum is parents want great print of their kids without bothering to learn how to operate a camera, they wish the camera can do it by themselves, in another word, they wish the technology is always very intelligent.”

BURST MODE, SHUTTER SPEED & FRAME RATE
Burst Mode usually called continuous shooting
is usually measured in Frame/second (fbps), it allows camera to shoot pictures continuously when shutter is pressed.
SLOW SHUTTER
Shutter Speed is the length of time a camera’s
shutter is open when taking a photograph. Shutter-priority mode is engaged when objects move a lot. It requires a higher shutter speed
Frame Rate is the number of images processed
per second in a video. Usually it is fixed at 1/30 or 1/60. Actioncam can shoot at a frame rate of 1/1000. Videos shot at higher frame rate allows slow motion replay.
FAST SHUTTER
TECHNOLOGY BOUNDARY OF IPHONE iPhone’s default setting: Fixed Aperture= f/2.4 Shutterspeed= 1/10-1/20 varies according to light condition, longer exposure time can be achieved by some App. ISO= Automatic changes according to light condition.
Why are All Fast Shutter APPs Scam?
FastPix HD
The so-called fast shutter in such app is actually burst mode instead of shutterspeed. To freeze liquid like that, one needs at least 1/1000. The fastest iphone can go is 1/20. The burst rate of iphone is 10fbps, which means the fastest rate you can press the shutter is 1/10 of a second. There’s no way you can shoot a picture at 800M.sec ( I don’t even know where this measurement comes from).
GOOD APPs
SLOW SHUTTER
WHAT’S THE TRICK OF VIDEO FRAME EXPORT?
Instead of being frustrated with the slow shutterspeed of our phone, especially in low-lighting condition, we switched to taking a video and export the frames. Video depends on frame rate, iphone takes video at 1/30 frame/sec. therefore we can replace shutter speed with frame rate, which is moderatly faster. Moreover, when taking a video, the aperture is constantly open, there’s slightly more light coming in, hence images are less grainy.

# Tagging & Sorting
Especially in low-lighting situations, blurriness increases
I discovered the technique of exporting frames after taking a video improves the quality
3 essential features: export frame, tagging&sorting, backlight.
THE PRODUCT Studio Waddle is a camera app that designed for parents to take picture of their children. Its main feature is to take a video and then export frames in order to counter blurriness. Other essential features like backlit detection, tagging and sorting are very helpful too.
LIGHTING FEEBACK Lighting makes a huge difference in photo quality. Sometime, the photo would look much better by simply switching around with your kid according to light source. This app reminds you when you need to take an action.
VIDEO FRAME EXPORT
Take a Video and then export frame: This technique solves problem in three ways: blurriness, lighting, moreover, you will never miss the perfect shot. The process is simple and intuitive, users have perfect control at all time.
TAGGING & SORTING
Manage your album better by tagging it. When you search for your kid birthday photo next time, you don’t have to scroll through the whole album again.
STUDIO WADDLE MINI CAMERA
STUDIO WADDLE MINI CAMERA
VIDEO FRAME EXPORT You can choose VFM mode easily from the minimal screen display.
CAMERA MODE Easy switching between camera and video mode.
HOW TO USE MINI CAMERA WITH THE APP? OVERVIEW STUDIO WADDLE MINI CAMERA AND THE APP ARE INDEPENDENT FROM EACH OTHER, USERS CAN DOWNLOAD THE APP WITHOUT USING THE MINI CAMERA.
HOW TO USE IT 1. MINI CAMERA IS EASY TO HOLD AND CONVIENT TO TAKE VIDEOS. 2.TAKE VIDEO WITH MINI CAMERA 3. THE MINI CAMERA IS SYNCED WITH YOUR PHONE, SO YOU CAN VIEW IT DIRECTLY IN THE APP.
HOW TO USE IT 4. MINI CAMERA CAN ALSO BE USED AS A USB, YOU CAN PLUG IT DIRECTLY INTO THE COMPUTER AND BACKUP ALL THE VIDEOS YOU HAVE TAKEN. 5. USERS CAN CHOOSE TO PAIR UP THE DEVICE WITH THE APP VIA BLUETOOTH DURING OR AFTER THE PROCESS.
