za confirmed on Thursday that Brazil cannot cancel a debt of more than million dollars that it has with Venezuela, because the United States and the European Union impede it. Arreaza ratified declarations of his Brazilain counterpart, Aloysio Nunes, who admitted that Brazil wants to pay the debt but they cant find a way to cancel it without colliding with sanctions that Euro-
pe and the US imposed on Venezuela. The debt was generated due to the energy supply that Venezuela has with Brazil, after an agreement signed in 2001 by Presidents at that time Hugo Chávez and Fernando Henrique Cardoso. The goverment of Brazil admitted on Wednesday that the United States and the European Union impede the cancellation of the debt and confirmed that Venezuela gave a 90 day
lapse for cancelling the amount. Aloysio Nunes detailed that Brasilia is negotiating with Caracas to avoid an energy cut to the Brazilain state of Roraima, through the Venezuelan state energy company Corpoelec. Arreaza stated that the Brazilian Chancellor’s declarations represent another irrefutable demonstration of the pervasive effect of the blocakde against Venezuela.
The Venezuelan government reached an agreement with 17 national industries to set prices of products for hygiene and personal care sector. Procter & Gamble and Colgate – Palmolive are in the list of industries which reached an agreement with the government to set prices of products, Caracas stated through a spokesperson on Thursday. Vice President for the economic area, Tareck El Aissami, confirmed that negotiations had ended successfully and that on Thursday prices will be published. El Aissami emphasized in an encounter held with the press in Caracas, that all the big industries associated to this production sector signed the agreement, even Polar Foods. ANNOUNCEMENT
Government exonerates tax from basic products
The National government confirmed on Wednesday that Venezuelans are now exempt from paying taxes when purchasing basic products and medicines. The Customs and Tax National Service Superintendent, José David Cabello, informed that all foods for human consumption as well as high and low cost medicines are exempt from taxes. The Superintendent confirmed the rise of taxes from 12 to 16%, exonerating as well transport products, education and health services. The Customs and Tax National Service specified that these measures will be valid for a year. José David Cabello also confirmed the elimination of 8039 fees for imports of goods and commodities.
