BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA MINISTRY FOR PEOPLE'S POWER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the coup attempt in the Federal Republic of Brazil Communiqué The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the Parliamentary Coup underway in Brazil, through legal farces of oligarchic domes and imperial forces that seek to overthrow the President, Dilma Rousseff, to replace popular sovereignty, threatening the constitution and democracy. The legitimate President, Dilma Rousseff, the first woman elected as Head of State in Brazil, facing an onslaught motivated by revenge of those factors that lost the elections and who are unable to reach political power by other means other than force. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recognizes the moral heritage, dignity and historical ability to fight of President Dilma Rousseff, who has demonstrated her example and humanist vocation to be a guarantee for democracy, social conquests for the Brazilian people and the nuestroamericana (our American) unit. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela considers that the coup in development has been forged from the moment of the election of President Dilma Rousseff, through the implementation of actions linked to a smooth coup, such as sabotage, disinformation, and lies, even to the extent of trying to prevent the realization of sporting events of great global significance in Brazil, with the aim of discrediting the government and its authorities. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has no doubt that all these actions are part of the oligarchic and imperial onslaught against progressive popular processes and the left, with the sole purpose to re-impose neoliberal models of social exclusion and spoliation of our natural wealth that brought poverty and backwardness for our people and thus end with the democratizing models. The process of Coup in Brazil aims to replace popular sovereignty and ignore the legitimate will of its people. It is because of this, we appeal to the people of the world to remain vigilant and ready to defend democracy, President Dilma Rousseff and processes of unity and integration among our countries. 12th May, 2016

BOLIVARIAN ALLIANCE FOR THE PEOPLES OF OUR AMERICA PEOPLES’TRADE TREATY

ALBA - TCP

BOLIVARIAN ALLIANCE FOR THE PEOPLE OF OUR AMERICA PEOPLES’ TRADE TREATY Special Communiqué 1) The people and governments of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), reject the political persecution against Brazil’s former president Lula Da Silva, which aims to destroy the public image and the ethical spirit of one who has been the bastion of the new processes of integration and unity in Latin America and the Caribbean. 2) We denounce that the judicial persecution against the former president Lula Da Silva is part of a strategy which, unable to apply their uprising formulas of the past, resorts, through all types of tricks and traps, to the political lynching of the leaders of the integration and unity of Latin America and the Caribbean. 3) We are aware that the judicial persecution unleashed against Lula is a strategy of international neo-liberalism that seeks to destroy the autonomous development model of sovereign countries to control their natural resources, for which the right-wing control of power in Latin America and the Caribbean, is a necessary condition. 4) We exhort the international community to join efforts, alongside the peoples as participants of the Latin American and Caribbean history, and to deal with this new onslaught of neo-liberal restoring forces in the region which try, at all costs, to undermine the legitimate development projects, progress, equality and freedom of our men and women. 12th May, 2016

HUMANITY AGAINST THE COUP IN BRAZIL The undersigned, intellectuals, artists, writers and researchers from all over the world denounce the coup underway in Brazil and stand in solidarity with President Dilma Rousseff who was elected by 54 million Brazilians only one year and a half ago. This is not a traditional “political trial”, as the Globo Group is attempting to present it. Michel Temer, the visible face of the coup, has already expressed his intentions to bring the private banking sector into the public sphere and to focus in particular on a social policy of austerity for the poorest 5% of the country, which would mean to exclude the 36 million people from the Bolsa Familia. In addition Temer intends to move toward agreements with the United States and the European Union "with or without Mercosur". In short his perspective is a Government for the elite of his country distanced from the majority and to wipe out forever the experience that the country had under the government of the Workers Party. Temer envisions himself to be the “new Macri” of Brasil, using the new government of Argentina as his model and advancing toward the dismantling of the state rarely seen in Argentina. It is not surprising then that the Foreign Ministry of that neighboring country has shamelessly supported the coup in Brazil under the guise of supporting its institutions. For everything that the coup makers have expressed and with their links to big business we consider the

coup of the President de facto Michel Temer illegitimate and illegal. He has long ago proven that he is a corrupt politician who takes his orders from the darkest parts of the predatory oligarchy of that country. We are appealing to UNASUR to apply the established Protocol stating a Commitment to Democracy adopted by all the countries of the organization that could put the brakes on the breakdown of the democratic thread in Brazil. We also demand that the presidents and governments of the world not to recognize Temer and to demand the return of the legitimately elected President Dilma Rousseff. They should also end the political crisis by calling for an immediate presidential election – made by the President herself – so that the Brazilian people can once again express themselves by democratic means and not by an imposed coup d’état by a questionable and corrupt Congress. 13th May, 2016

LECTURE ON FOREIGN POLICY OF VENEZUELA ISSUED TO THE STUDENTS OF EGERTON UNIVERSITY, KENYA

The Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Jhony Balza Arismendi shared on the 3rd May 2016, reflections on the Venezuelan diplomacy in Africa with students of International Studies of Egerton University (EU). In his speech to the students, The Ambassador emphasized on the importance of the South-South cooperation, as part of Venezuela's foreign policy. The historical and cultural ties are fundamental to this cooperation that we have to face every day as we deepen options that stimulate hegemonic ideas. The academic dissertation served to explain the reasons and understand how since 2005 the links between Venezuela and Africa have expanded given the strategic view that President Hugo Chavez had for forming different geographic poles to host a multipolar world. The lecture also recalled the various visits that President Chavez made to the African continent to strengthen friendship and common points for rapprochement between Venezuela and Africa. He presented a brief speech of President Chavez at the African Union Summit on the 6th December 2009 where he explained future projects in which Venezuela and Africa could complement each other to address aspects and social demands that require sovereign and emancipatory outputs. The Ambassador Balza took the opportunity to formalize future academic links with Dr. B. K. Onyancha, Chairman of the Department of History, Philosophy and Religion at Egerton University and the coordinator of the International Studies programme, Madam Sally Kiprota. In the question answer session at the end of the lecture, the students had the opportunity to ask various questions concerning information on the cooperation that Venezuela has with Kenya. The education, energy and cultural issues were addressed with enthusiasm by the participants in this fruitful meeting. 3rd May, 2016

In his closing remarks, Ambassador Jhony Balza Arismendi, highlighted the importance of this type of activity because it helps to spread the cultural values of our region in a continent that sometimes little is known of its achievements and developments in the film industry. Regarding the Venezuelan production, he stressed that thanks to the policy of the Bolivarian Government implemented since 1999, the film industry has achieved relevant projections beyond our borders, as seen in various international festivals and making this creative process an educational and participation tool for our people. 7th May, 2016
