However, the sentence was not recognized by his captors, who always refused to hand he over to the different authorities in the capital as well as to the International Court. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, one of the sons of the murdered Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, was released on saturday night from his place of detention in the city of Zitan (a city controlled by armed groups opposed to the Libyan National Accord Government) after being sentenced to death for crimes committed during the days of the revolution of the 17th February, 2011. The release of his house arrest was known through a communique of the group Abu Bakr al Siddiq, a militia that controls that territory. According to the document, this takes place "in compliance with the general amnesty declared by the Parliament of Libya (Tobrouk Parliament)". "We have decided to release Saif al-Islam to Gaddafi, and now he is completely free, we confirm that he left Zintan at the very moment of his release, yesterday 14 of Ramadan. Hours after the news was confirmed, the local digital newspaper "Libyan Express" revealed that Saif had been transferred to the eastern city of Al Baida, the seat of the government of eastern Libya (Tobrouk Parliament / Libyan National Army). "He is in the company of members of his tribe and his family, and in the next few hours he will address the Libyan people," the publication added. Al-Islam had been captured in November 2011 while fleeing to Nigeria, and was sentenced to death in July 2015 by a criminal court in Tripoli along with former officials of his father. Six years after NATO intervened in Libya and contributed to the overthrow and assassination of President Muammar Gaddafi, turning the Maghreb country into a failed state, two governments vie for power: one in the west sponsored by the UN (National Unity Government Chaired by Fayez al-Sarraj, based in Tripoli), and another in the east (Al Baida and Tobrouk) under the leadership of Jalifa Haftar, which controls more than 60 percent of the country. To them is added the powerful city-state of Misrata, Libya's main commercial port. A preliminary review of the situation is that the release of Saif al-Islam could add further elements of instability in Libya, since his leadership is strong in a significant percentage of the Libyan population who long for the return to power of a Gaddafi who can finish the Situation of chaos that the country is currently experiencing, bringing again the population and the different tribes that make life in it. It should be remembered that the vast majority of the Libyan people did not support the actions of radical groups which supported by NATO, overthrew President Gaddafi in 2011. www.saberesafricanos.net

Gulf crisis: Iran sends planes of food to Qatar amid concerns of shortages

Qatar has been in talks with Iran and Turkey to secure food and water supplies after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut links.

Tasnim news agency as saying on Sunday the first planes carrying food to Qatar had flown from the southern city of Shiraz.

Iran has sent four cargo planes of food to Qatar and plans to provide 100 tonnes of fruit and vegetable every day, Iranian officials said, amid concerns of shortages after Qatar’s biggest suppliers severed ties with the import-dependent country.

“Every day we will export 100 tonnes of fruits and vegetables to Qatar,” Ali Hemmati said. The head of Iran’s livestock exporters said on Sunday that they had exported 66 tonnes of meat to Qatar in the last two days.

Qatar has been in talks with Iran and Turkey to secure food and water supplies after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut links, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism. Qatar says the allegations are based on lies.

“We will also be sending 90 tonnes of meat in the coming week,” Fars quoted Mansour Pourian as saying. Qatar was importing 80 percent of its food requirements from bigger Gulf Arab neighbours before they cut ties with the nation of 2.5 million people last week.

“Following the sanctions ... on Qatar, IranAir has so far transported food and vegetables to this country by four flights,” Shahrokh Noushabadi, head of public relations at Iran’s national airline, was quoted as saying by Fars news agency.

Iran, long at odds with Saudi Arabia, has called for the two sides to overcome their differences.

Venezuela calls for understanding in the countries of the Gulf through constructive diplomatic dialogue The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses deep concern at the differences that have arisen among some sister governments of Arab countries in the Gulf, fed by biased and interested media versions that seek confrontations among people united by common bonds. The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela calls for understanding and overcoming of current differences through frank and constructive diplomatic dialogue, while dismissing actions that may exacerbate the ongoing conflict. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela sincerely hopes for the full restoration of fraternal ties among important countries of the Middle East region, demands respect for sovereignty and the principle of self-determination of the people, and offers its good offices to help overcome this situation that disturbs the normal relationship in a region so important for the economic, political and cultural life of the International Community. Iran hit by terrorist attack At least 12 people were killed when six attackers mounted simultaneous gun and suicide bomb assaults on Iran's Parliament building and the tomb of the republic's revolutionary founder, in one of the most audacious assaults to hit Tehran in decades. The targets were highly symbolic. The ISIS media wing, Amaq, claimed "fighters with the Islamic State" carried out the assault. It was the first time that ISIS, a Sunni Muslim group fighting Iranian-backed militias in Syria, has claimed responsibility for an attack in Iran. The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolรกs Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Government and the Venezuelan People extend his condolences to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hasan Rohani, his Government and the Iranian People, for the vile terrorist attack supposedly executed by ISIS in the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini and in the Iranian Parliament, killing twelve people and leaving numerous people with injuries. Venezuela firmly and categorically condemns terrorism in all its forms and expressions and calls on the International Community to prevent this terrible scourge that causes suffering to Humanity through extremist violence and undermines the right to peace, development and the future of the people. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela extends its condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims and expresses its solidarity with the Iranian People, while condemning and rejecting this infamous terrorist attack against a brother country that enjoys our admiration and historical consideration for its fight in defense of their sovereignty and independence facing the imperial powers. We will continue to build a world of peace, balance and justice. Caracas, June 7th 2017

PROMOTING THE UNKNOWN ABOUT AFRICA

UGANDA: TANZANIA: SOMALIA:

Is Mozambique the next oil and gas hub? Oil and gas prices have been on a steady decline over the years, creating major concerns for global leaders. But for Mozambique, there's hope during these turbulent times as an estimated 20 billion barrels of natural gas has been found off its coast. The country sits seventh on the table of poorest countries in the world and has an undisclosed debt worth $1.4 billion (10.7% of GDP), but this discovery could add $39 billion dollars to its economy by 2035, according to a Standard Bank estimation in 2015. Although only a fraction of the reserves of a country like Russia, which has more than 48.7 trillion barrels, Mozambique's 20 billion barrels raises its energy profile to rank as the seventh largest reserve in Africa.

The nation emerged as a giant in natural gas in 2012 when 85 trillion cubic feet of natural gas was found in the Rovuma basin, which has been described as "one of the largest gas finds in years." The economies of African oil producing countries have felt the impact of the collapse of oil prices. Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, expressed her worries about the fate of low-income oil producers like Nigeria. "That's a country that is facing... a real hardship and a necessity to very promptly redesign its business model and realign its interests with a completely new reality," she said in a 2016 interview on the sidelines of the Albright Institute at Wellesley College. www.edition.cnn.com 5
