WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Members of European Parliament demand the National Assembly to return to the table of dialogue with the Venezuelan Government

The spokeswoman for the United Left in the European Parliament, Marina Albiol, and Javier Couso have called on Venezuelan National Assembly President Julio Borges to return to the dialogue table with the government of President Nicolás Maduro, UNASUR,the exponents José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Lionel Fernández and Martín Torrijos and also by the Vatican. In the opinion of both, this will lead to a peaceful electoral process and it is the "only democratic exit" possible to tackle the situation that the Latin American country is currently facing. Borges attended a special session of the Foreign Affairs Committees (AFET) and European and Latin American Relations (Eurolat), upon the invitation of the European People's Party. In a very tough speech and without citing any source to support the data he was giving, the President of the Assembly asked the EU to help the opposition to end the Government of Maduro, which has been accused of leading "the worst Dictatorship of the world ". In the company of the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, asked the community institutions to impose sanctions on some members of the Government.

Faced with Borges's insistence that Venezuela is a dictatorship, he has ironically asked if he meant "the dictatorship in which there have been 20 elections in the last 18 years; to the dictatorship of a country where there are more than 100 legal parties; Where media outlets criticize the government; or where the opposition celebrates its primaries in one of the powers as the National Electoral Council.” On the contrary, the MEP, who is vice-president of AFET, believes that "what has happened in Venezuela since 2002 is a very serious attempt to change the government by force" and that it includes "calls not to recognize the president and to overthrow him." Something that in practice "translates into acts of violence" by some supporters of the opposition. In fact, Couso has provided some data on the deaths of the past weeks in the protests in Venezuela to dismantle the theses of Borges and González that the Government is responsible: "The figures are curious according to anyone who counts. There have been 62 people killed in recent weeks in Venezuela, six of those deaths have been allegedly caused by security agents who are in the process of being tried. In addition, there are 23 other officials detained or wanted by the Justice department. "

But in addition to these, "14 people have died in the looting that has been influnced by the opposition; eight who were trying to pass the barricades; three, by shooting criminal gangs; and 15 because they were passing near on going protests but did not participate. At least 27 people were Chavez supporters." Couso worried about the "denial of the opponent" exercise that is part of the opposition to Maduro, "because according to the last real photo that of the last elections - the first party in votes is the Unified Socialist Party of Venezuela with 5.6 Millions and it is also the first party of the opposition. " "Are we going to deny them too?" He asked. "They came asking for elections and there is already an electoral route. a Constituent also. They have the regional ones in December and the presidential ones in 2018. Fight for those elections and sit down to dialogue and resolve peacefully. Or what are they looking for, a civil war or an intervention? "He said. Albiol, who is the coordinator of the Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left Group for Eurolat, began by criticizing that the European Parliament seems more concerned about democracy, economic crisis and human rights in Venezuela than in other Latin American countries or in The Spanish State. "As you see," he told Borges, "this is a Parliament that is very concerned about democracy, but about Venezuela." The question would be, why "my colleagues are not so concerned about democracy in Honduras, where the coup d'etat was not condemned " against Manuel Zelaya, "or for democracy in Brazil, where there was not even a debate after The coup d'état " to Dilma Roussef.

One Parliament, "also worried about Venezuela's economic crisis, of course. But they do not seem so worried about a crisis that causes the Spanish state to have 30% of child poverty. " In this House, Albiol has said, "the deputies of the Spanish Popular Party speak more of Venezuela than of Spain," which "is not without curiosity." The UI spokeswoman has been direct with Borges, calling into question "can talk about democracy and freedom" when "you call for the armed forces to break their silence," instead of participating "in open dialogue" and accept the process constituent. "He speaks of a coup d'état, but Mr Maduro was elected in an election in 2013" and his term expires in 2018. "You yourself are the result of legislative elections: Can you tell me if the ones you won have been the only ones Democratic elections in Venezuela?", He asked. Finally, Albiol has also referred to the label of "political prisoners" used by both the Venezuelan opposition, conservatives, Social Democrats and liberals in Europe. "When they talk about political prisoners, who are they referring to? Those who are detained for calling the coup d'etat and inciting violence in their country?" Said IU MEP in reference to Leopoldo López . www.iueuropa.org

"It is a Parliament very concerned for human rights, but for those of Venezuela. They are not so concerned about the human rights of migrants and refugees who die in the Mediterranean trying to reach Europe, " he continued. 2

Trump Reverses Obama openings to Cuba under the false flag of Human Rights

On the 16th of June 2017, US President Donald Trump cancelled the Obama deal with Cuba and signed policy changes he is making at the Manuel Artime. He made the following statement "I am canceling completely the last administration's one-sided deal with Cuba. I will "expose the crimes of the Castro regime." They made a deal with a government that spread violence and instability in the region and nothing they got...” Said President Trump.

In turn, Minister Rodriguez condemned the interventionist strategies that seek to incite conflicts in favor of the world economic sectors: "American extremism tries to plague the planet of misery, violence and death to satisfy Capital and its barbarism." The Minister also stressed that, in light of the ties of friendship and cooperation between these two nations, as well as the actions of Venezuela as part of the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, these nations will continue to work together in international forums such as the Bolivarian Alliance for The Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA -TCP), Petrocaribe and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) "flying the flags of Bolivar, Martí, Commander Fidel and Chávez," she said.

The Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Delcy Rodriguez, announced the unwavering support of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the sister Republic of Cuba, after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, canceled the agreements that had been signed in 2016 by former President Barack Obama and his counterpart Raul Castro in order to start a new policy of opening for the benefit of the Caribbean nation.

"The threats made by the President of the United States fuel the anti-imperialist spirit of the courageous Cuban people and the Patria Grande," added the Chancellor, in turn inviting nations fighting against imperial interests to join efforts in Pro-free self-determination and sovereignty of the people, "In the face of aggressions and threats against our beloved Cuba we call for the unity and struggle of the people of the Great Homeland!”

"Venezuela expresses its firm and indeclinable solidarity with the sister Republic of Cuba in the face of the attacks of @realDonaldTrump," the Chancellor said through his Twitter account @DrodriguezVen.

Gold reserves certified in Venezuela amount to 50 million ounces The most ambitious alliance

Gold reserves certified in Venezuela by Gold Reserve amount to 50 million ounces , that is, more than 1.4 million kilos of gold. That amount is comparable to all Russia's reserves of precious metal in its central bank (45.52 million ounces). The profits that the mixed company reports, 55% will go to the coffers of Venezuela. It is expected that production cap is 1.5 million ounces of gold per year, which will make the company one of the most profitable in the world , taking into account that according to the ranking of firms made by Mining Press , Grasberg Indonesia, which leads the count and belongs to Barrick Gold, generates 1.23 million ounces per year. That is why in the negotiation with Gold Reserve, the constitution of a joint company has to be drafted, the first of its kind in the history of Venezuela, which will start with an investment of 2 billion. So far, it is the largest oil project undertaken by Venezuela.

International perspective

Venezuela's main source of income comes from the exploitation of crude oil, which is undergoing a slight recovery after a titanic effort by

OPEC and non-OPEC countries to stabilize prices. In the last two years, however, the downward trend in the oil market has limited the inflow of resources to the South American country and the economy has suffered the consequences. That conjuncture, coupled with the immense pressure of the hegemonic financial centers, has pushed the nation to look for new sources of income in the non-oil activity to revive the economy. There, the enormous mineral wealth that the country has, especially in the state of Bolivar, are emerging as the most feasible option to see positive results for national accounts in the short term. In the midst of the siege of international capital and the press that provokes the Venezuelan economy, investments of the caliber of Gold Reserve are at least a bet of trust. www.actualidad.rt.com

During the next two years, Venezuela will pay the rest of its debt, which totals a bit more than a billion dollars. The company indicated in its web portal that the payment was important not only for Gold Reserve but also for Venezuela. The company ratified that they will continue working in Venezuela.

Ethiopia presides over the World Health Organization

An African national has been voted to head the World Health Organization for the first time in the agency's history.

New World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus holds a news conference May 24 in Geneva.

Ethiopian Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was chosen as director general of the WHO after winning over 66% of the required votes to defeat his closest challenger, the UK's David Nabarro.

His leadership during this time was praised in an op-ed by former USAID Administrator Ariel Pablos-Mendez: "Ethiopia has fallen short in some health markers. ... But by almost any measure, it is showing the way to a new era in world health. The basis of this progress has been innovative leadership by Dr. Tedros."

In nearly 70 years of the agency's existence, Ghebreyesus, the former Ethiopian health minister, is the first African to get elected. Ghebreyesus will succeed Margaret Chan, who has been director general since 2007.

In an interview with The Lancet last year, Ghebreyesus vowed to advance universal health coverage and expand access to medicine and services for conditions such as HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, diabetes, cancer and mental health disorders.

"All roads lead to universal coverage. This will be my central priority," Ghebreyesus told health ministers at the WHO's annual assembly after his election. During the session, he noted that only half of people today currently have access to health care without risking impoverishment.

As Ethiopia's health minister, he turned around an ailing system and led a reform of the country's health section, creating 3,500 medical centers and increasing the medical work force by 38,000 -- the vast majority of them women. 6
