Over 50 countries around the world expressed support for the constitutional government of Venezuela against foreign threats. During the 36th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on Thursday 28th September, 57 countries signed an expression of support of respect for the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela. “We condemn any action that disturbs peace, tranquility, and democratic stability... and that threatens sovereignty, including the recent threats of a possible foreign military intervention,” the jointly signed document read, that was read by Cuba's ambassador to the Council, Pedro Luis Pedroso. The nations, among whom are Cuba, China, Bolivia, Russia, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Libya, Ecuador, Vietnam, South Africa, and Iran, expressed their “support for the
Republic of Venezuela, in its commitment to preserve peace and maintain democratic institutions in the country.” They expressed support for the calls and efforts of President Nicolas Maduro to political dialogue in Venezuela in order to “preserve peace and guarantee the stability of the democratic institutions." Also read during the session was a declaration by the Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our America (ALBA) that echoed the calls for respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity in Venezuela. States President Donald Trump in his address to the United Nations General Assembly. The Venezuelan representative to the council, Jorge Valero, also spoke, expressing solidarity to those countries who support Venezuela's sovereignty and saying that "peace reigns" in his country due to the democratic National Constituent Assembly.
The support of ALBA and 57 countries around the world is an affirmation of the international support Venezuela has behind it, in a crucial moment as it has been subject to renewed attacks from the United States and its allied countries in recent weeks. www.creedpolitico.com www.telesurtv.net
“Thanks to the National Constituent Assembly, elected through the universal, direct, and secret vote of millions of Venezuelans, peace reigns in Venezuela," he said.
Far right uses Las Vegas tragedy to falsely implicate left Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said at a press conference the first responders saved thousands of lives as people at the festival were unaware of what was happening. A state of emergency has since been declared in the area. "They were thinking it’s fireworks or it’s part of the technology of the music being played. They were thinking it’s coming from different areas," Goodman said. In the aftermath of the chilling tragedy, a go-fund-me page "Las Vegas Victims' Fund" to help those impacted by the shooting set up by Steve Sisolak, Clark County Commission Chair has collected over US$1 million of its US$ 2 million goal. Following that deadliest attack in the history of the US, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its sincerest condolences to the people of the United States of America due to the unfortunate events that took place in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada state, where an armed attack resulted in the death of at least 58 people and several injured on October 1st.
A mass shooting took place at a country music concert, attended by more 40,000 people, near the famed Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, according to reports from Las Vegas police. At least 59 people have died and over 520 injured when a shooter opened fire at the crowd. The pro-Trump Gateway pundit website reported that a man named Geary Danley was to blame for the attacks. Danley appears to have become implicated as the police searched for Marilou Danley in connection to the shooting. An anonymous user on one of the boards on the far right website 4chan said Danley was a "REGISTERED DEMOCRAT!" "Geary opened fire from the 34th floor of the Mandalay Bay toward a concert happening across the street."
We strongly reject this and any acts of violence aimed at terrorize the population and express our heartfelt solidarity with the victims and their families affected by this terrible event. On behalf of our people and government, we raise our prayers for the prompt recovery of the injured and the peaceful rest for those who lost their lives. We hope that all those responsible will be brought to justice. www.abcnews.go.com

Deadly bombing at Damascus police station A car bomb went off near a police station in Damascus' al-Midan neighbourhood on Monday 2nd October, shortly before two suicide bombers detonated their explosive belts, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said. The more than 15 people who were killed included police officers and civilians, others with multiple injuries. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns the double suicide attack against a police station in the Al Midan neighborhood located south of Damascus in the Syrian Arab Republic, which has so far left 15 people dead and 20 wounded, between police and civilians. Venezuela strongly rejects this type of brutal action, ratifying its total rejection of terrorism in all its forms as well as its supporters with the intention of undermining the determination and value of the Syrian People and Government in their struggle to free the country of the fierce sectarian and exclusive threat represented by the perpetrators of these attacks. In this regard, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela extends its deepest condolences to the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic, its People and the families of the victims, ratifying their full solidarity and fraternity in the face of these attacks. www.aljazeera.com

Puerto Rico situation:
politics versus humanity...
As Puerto Rico struggles after Hurricane Maria, the answer is now clear: Trump's response has been a frenzied study in microcosm of his turbulent and combative presidency itself.
Trump's character suggest that expectations that he could hit a more conventionally "presidential" register when the trivia of daily political life is replaced by life-and-death decisions, may be misplaced.
Many of the traits of Trump's political persona, from his contempt for convention to his acute sensitivity towards the merest personal slight have been magnified as criticism has slowly built over his crisis management. Under pressure, Trump improvises, polarizes and victimizes. He has shown himself content to frame his own reality -- in this case on the true nature of the island's plight -- if the prevailing one is unfavorable to him.
They may also offer pointers as to how he would lead in a national security crisis with graver global implications than Puerto Rico's troubles, perhaps in the standoff with North Korea over its nuclear program, or in the case of an explosion of tension with Iran. The drama of hurricane season is also offering pointers to how Trump sees the job of the presidency itself.
The President has also displayed an obsessive interest in how he is perceived, as critics have faulted the scale and speed of the rescue and relief effort after the storm pulverized the island nearly two weeks ago. His frustration has been spilling out in prolonged Twitter storms, offering the kind of insights into his state of mind that Americans have had to wait for autobiographies or historians to uncover during previous presidencies.
The question now is whether Trump's already parlous political fortunes risk being further damaged by his role on Puerto Rico. There has been much talk of Puerto Rico being his "Katrina" in reference to the botched hurricane response that debilitated George W. Bush's presidency. Yet experience would suggest that even if the situation deteriorates badly, Trump is unlikely to see the bottom fall out of his presidency.
And as he did during his campaign, the President has sought to defend himself by seeking out enemies to frame as scapegoats to deflect blame from his own missteps -- for instance, San Juan Mayor Carmen YulĂn Cruz. These glimpses of
In this sense, his low approval ratings actually may be liberating for the President. His unshakeable base, giving him between 35% and 40% in most polls, seems impervious to the forces that normally shift perceptions of a politician. edition.cnn.com www.telesurtv.net

Caribbean keeps watch as hurricane season continues Meteorologists reassure residents that hurricanes like Harvey, Irma and Maria will continue to diminish as the weeks progress. After battling one tropical storm after another, the Caribbean can breathe a sigh of relief, meteorologists say, reporting clear skies and hurricane-free waters.
On Friday, U.N. to launch a campaign to raise US31 million for the “badly battered” Caribbean nation. UNICEF also announced Thursday that it would increase the humanitarian aid for women and children in hurricane-stricken regions.
However, weather experts have cautioned that with two months left in the hurricane season, there is still a chance of a few more tropical systems, particularly in the western Caribbean, while strong thunderstorms are a guarantee.
Venezuela concluded rescue mission in Dominica
“Multiple factors will be in place that may favor several tropical systems to come about into the middle of October,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said, explaining the warm tropical waters create the ideal temperatures for system formations. However, Sosnowski reassures that hurricanes like Harvey, Irma and Maria will continue to diminish as the weeks progress. Meteorologists caution those in Central America, Cuba, the Bahamas, Mexico and the southeastern United States to prepare for further extremes of weather and expect variances until around December. “Historically speaking, we have seen the systems try to develop, especially so in the western Caribbean, down in the southern Gulf of Mexico and off the east coast of the U.S.” said Accuweather forecaster Mark Mancuso. This year’s hurricane season has wrought serious damage throughout the Caribbean, as 13 tropical storms have passed through the region, eight of which rapidly transforming from tropical storms to hurricanes with five growing to become major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher. The most recent hurricane, Maria, left 90% of Dominica without food, power, or shelter, inspiring members of the international community to band together and assist the hurricane-stricken nations.
The Venezuelan international civilian-military rescue and humanitarian assistance brigade, named after liberator Simon Bolivar, completed its 10-day logistical support project in Dominica after it was wrecked by Hurricane Maria. Nestor Reverol, Venezuela's Minister for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, reported on his Twitter account that the crew returned home on Saturday. He also detailed the successful mission undertaken by the humanitarian task force last month. "We are proud of the work of our Humanitarian Task Force Simon Bolivar with the peoples of the world. Congratulations!" Reverol noted on his social network page. One of the missions conducted by the brigade included the rescue of a family of four that was trapped inside of a vehicle for five days near the town of Castle Bruce. They were also treated for mild dehydration. Apart from providing medical assistance to three Brazilian diplomats in Dominica, the humanitarian team also provided similar aid to the people of Antigua and Barbuda, St. Martin and other Caribbean nations affected by Category 5 Hurricane Maria and other storms that passed over the region last month. This humanitarian body was created on June 3, 2005, by former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez as a way to offer solidarity assistance to nations affected by natural disasters. Weeks after the task force was formed, Chavez offered 120 rescue and first aid experts, two mobile hospital units, 50 tons of food, 10 water purification plants, 18 power generation plants and other vital supplies to the people of New Orleans after the levees broke during the passage of Hurricane Katrina, leaving more than 1,800 people dead. www.mppre.gob.ve www.telesurtv.net

Venezuelan Film Wins First Prize in Biarritz Film Festival “La familia” (The Family) is a 2017 Venezuelan drama film directed by Gustavo Rondón Córdova. It was screened in the International Critics' Week section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. The characters don’t say much in “La Familia,” the film explores the relationship between a father and son as they confront the surrounding violence. His rough-edged but finely scaled feature debut, but their lack of communication speaks to a larger lack of harmony and empathy in a population exhausted by poverty and ingrained brutality. An honest, urgent two-hander, tracking a struggling single father and his wayward son on the run from more than one undefined enemy, Córdova’s film brings little that’s new to its stylistic school of observational realism — but hits the Caracas sidewalks hard and purposefully enough to compensate. The film won the Hug prize for Best Feature at the Biarritz Festival of Latin American Cinema in France. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, making it the first Venezuelan feature film to be included in the selection. Cordova received funding from Venezuela’s National Autonomous Cinematography Center to make the film. “La Familia” is the director’s sixth feature film. www.telesurtv.net Funded by Venezuela’s National Autonomous Center of Cinematography . How Government Plans to Increase Mineral Revenues Sevenfold By 2024 Sustained investments into modernising mining activities, exploration for new types of minerals, and adding value to the gems before they are exported will help Rwanda achieve its target to increase seven times by 2024 the revenues from mineral exports, officials have said.
reserves, in terms of quantity and quality with the aim of exporting $800 million by 2020 and $1.5 billion annually by 2024," the premier said. While Ngirente mentioned further exploration for mines, Gatare explained last week that the mining sector will also be modernised and current practices of artisanal mining turned into large and industrial mining operations to increase productivity.
The Chief Executive of Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board, Francis Gatare, said the Government's recent announcement that it targets to achieve $1.5 billion in annual revenues from exported minerals by 2024 is attainable.
The official said that 75 per cent of the country's mining operations are currently artisanal with very low recovery rate for minerals but, going forwad, miners will be equipped with skills and modern machines so they can carry out large and industrial mining activities.
"It's absolutely achievable and we have agreed with stakeholders to double the current revenues every two years in order to achieve the target in time," Gatare told The New Times. Last week, Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente, outlining the Government's seven-year programme before Parliament, said the Government targeted to increase revenues from mineral exports over the next seven years, from the current $200 million a year to $1.5 billion by 2024.
"Small and artisanal miners dominate the sector today but they will be grouped into big cooperatives so they can be commercial, industrial miners," Gatare said. www.allafrica.com
