Venezuela exonerated at the UN in human rights The Foreign Minister Delcy Rodríguez, who headed the Venezuelan delegation in Geneva, noted that most of the countries participating in the process of Universal Periodic Review (UPR), which our nation was subjected, support the country and acknowledge the progress regarding social justice that has been promoted in the years of the Revolution Venezuela won with its honest and transparent speech at the presentation of the report on human rights to the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN), held on Tuesday, 1st of November 2016, in Geneva, Switzerland, President Nicolas Maduro said. "How did we achieve that victory? With the truth" he emphasized in the first edition of the program “La Hora de la Salsa”, broadcast by Radio Miraflores. The delegation that made the presentation, led by the Foreign Minister Delcy Rodríguez, had "a monumental intervention (...). Venezuela was required to present for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and we were exonerated," said the Head of State indicating that the presentation allowed for the demonstration of the achievements such as the constitution of the new penitentiary system, which favors the protection and transformation of prisoners and the work of the National Council for Human Rights. The Venezuelan delegation reaffirmed the commitment to the defense of the model of social justice and equity built for 17 years against the unconventional warfare that the right has embarked since 2013 against the country. In this UPR the "economic war, the global financial persecution that has classified Venezuela as being with a risk rating, an incredible thing, was denounced. Venezuela has paid its foreign debt; it has serviced all its debt flawlessly in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. We paid more than 40,000 million dollars ", said President Maduro on the radio program.

Most Delegates Recognize Our Achievements The Foreign Minister Rodriguez said that most of the 104 delegations that spoke before the UN Council support Venezuela and recognize national progress in this area. She said that the delegations recognized that, despite the economic complexities that the country is going through- a product of the falling oil prices, the main source of national income, the model regarding human rights persists and "is an example for other countries." "It was very exciting when most countries expressed support for the human rights model that were established by the Bolivarian Revolution through Commander (Hugo) Chavez," she said in a telephone conversation with La Hora de la Salsa. Rodriguez denounced that although human rights in the country have become universal and progressive, the opposition and "their foreign allies" try to attack and violate them. "They want you to stop this model of greatness of human rights, but despite this (...) there is the cutting-edge model, an alternative model that is definitely irreversible," she added. What is the UPR? This is a unique process that includes a review of the human rights records of all member States of the United Nations. The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Evaluation is a new and unique mechanism of the Human Rights Council in order to improve the situation in this area in each of the 193 UN member countries. Under this mechanism, the human rights situation of all UN members is reviewed every five years. States evaluated are reviewed each year during three sessions of a Working Group, which analyzes the situation of each of 14 States. These three sessions are normally held in January/February, May/June and October/November. The result of each review is reflected in a final report listing the recommendations that the State concerned must implement before the next review. UPR is a circular process comprising three key stages 1. Examination of the human rights situation in the State under review 2. Implementation between two reviews (five years) by the State under the recommendations received and voluntary pledges and commitments made; 3. To inform the next review on the implementation of those recommendations and pledges and the human rights situation in the country since the previous review. www.correodelorinoco.gob.ve

Mary Keitany wins third New York marathon in a row

Their speed was too much for Ethiopian 2009 World marathon bronze medallist Aselefech Mergia to handle in a race that generated to a three-horse battle before the 15km mark.Mergia failed to keep up and begun to fall off Keitany and Chepkirui just after 19km where the Kenyan crossed in an incredible 1:05:08.

An dominant Kenyan Mary Keitany ran the last half of the race unchallenged to capture her third consecutive New York City Marathon title in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 26 seconds on Sunday. Kenyan men failed the test in the men’s race when World Marathon champion Ghimray Ghebreslassie from Eritrea claimed victory in 2:07:51. Ghebreslassie, 20, makes history as the youngest champion.

Eight days shy of his 21st birthday, Ghebreslassie accelerated at the halfway mark and overwhelmed his rivals to run alone over the final kilometre. Ghebreslassie's New York debut came after a fourth-place showing at London and the Rio Olympics.

Kenya’s Lucas Rotich settled for second in 2:08:53 in a race where defending champion Stanley Biwott from Kenya, dropped out of the race before reaching the 15km. American Abdi Abdirahman, 39, from USA finished third in 2:11:23.

At the halfway mark, a trio pulled away from the pack — Ghebreslassie, Rotich and Ethiopian Lelisa Desisa, last year's Boston Marathon champion. In the 32km, Ghebreslassie surged away from Rotich and Desisa, accelerating ahead to pull away from his last threats.

Keitany, who is the only other woman besides Norwegian Grete Waitz to have won the race three times, edged out 2012 London Olympics and 2013 World 10,000m silver medalist Sally Kipyego to second place in 2:28:28. American Molly Huddle finished third 2:28:40.

Rotich was second in 2:08:53 and shared a high five with his countryman, who ran back down the course to greet Rotich. American Abdi Abdirahman, 39, was third in 2:11:23 with Japan's Hiroyuki Yamamoto fourth in his New York debut, another 26 seconds adrift.

Keitany and compatriot Joyce Chepkirui, the 2016 Amsterdam Marathon champion, broke away to cruise past the half marathon mark in 1:12:39.

In August at Rio, Biwott dropped out at the halfway point of the Olympic marathon, saying he was given the wrong water bottle and that caused stomach problems. Keitany and Ghebreslassie claimed US$ 100,000 each (Sh 10m) for their exploits.

Then Keitany would show Chepkirui her clean pair of heels as she stepped on her positions to increase her lead to 20 seconds at 24kms in 1:22:30. Keitany, the 2011 and 2012 London Marathon champion passed the 37km mark in 2:07:30 on her way to victory. However, Chepkirui’s wilted as Kipyego and Huddle overtake her.
