BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA MINISTRY FOR PEOPLE'S POWER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMUNIQUร
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its deep concern and rejection at the announcement by the President of the Republic of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, of the beginning of discussions to finalize a military cooperation agreement between Colombia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This announcement breaks the word pledged by President Santos to President Hugo Chรกvez in 2010, to not make a military alliance with NATO. The Venezuelan Government strongly opposes the attempt to introduce external factors with nuclear capacity in our region, whose past and recent actions claim the policy of war, violate bilateral and regional agreements of which Colombia is part (UNASUR, CELAC), Through which Latin America and the Caribbean were declared a Zone of Peace. This announcement undermines the principles of Bandung that gave birth to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which expressly prohibits its Member States from forming military alliances. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will assert all diplomatic and political instances within its reach to prevent war organizations with a pernicious record of war and violence in the world from disturbing the peace of our Region. The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, for the sake of union and integration of the Great Homeland, urges the Government of Colombia not to generate elements of destabilization and war in South America, and vows to attend to the historical call for peace and unity of our Liberators. Venezuela supports UN condemnation of "Israeli colonization" in Palestine
On Thursday 22 December, Venezuela's ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Rafael Ramírez, welcomed the Security Council resolution condemning Israel's policy of settlement in Palestinian territories and demands its "immediate" and "complete" cessation.
However, four non-permanent members of the Security Council - Venezuela, New Zealand, Malaysia and Senegal took again the document and forced their vote, just 24 hours after the Egyptian step back. The resolution adopted today calls on Israel to cease its settlement policy in Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and insists that the solution to the Middle East conflict involves the creation of a Palestinian state that lives next to Israel.
“After 10 years of silence, the Security Council approves a resolution against the Israeli colonization of Palestine” said the former president of Pdvsa, through his account on Twitter, and described the measure as a “support” to Palestine.
According to the resolution, these settlements “constitute a flagrant violation of international law and a major obstacle to a two-state solution, as well as a just, lasting and complete peace.” From his side, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netnayahu rejected this resolution which he described as “shameful and anti-Israeli.”
The diplomat also considered that the Council “has great responsibility for the Israeli occupation of nearly 50 years on Palestine." The United States, after vetoing a similar resolution in 2011, abstained and allowed the text to go ahead with the support of the other members of the Security Council.
Netnayahu said he was not going to stick to his terms, while UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called the move a “significant step” and encouraged the parties to resume talks.
Diplomatic sources said that this meeting was postponed one day at the request of Egypt, which proposed the resolution, after alleged intercession of US President-elect Donald Trump, who had asked US President Barack Obama to veto the resolution.

Venezuela defends the sovereignty of the people at the UN Security Council flags that (Hugo) Chavez always commanded, non-interference, respect for sovereignty, and the right to Peace," he added.
The Venezuelan ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Rafael RamĂrez, emphasized on Monday the 19 of December that the nation, for two years as a nonpermanent member of the UN Security Council, defended the principle foundations of the international institution and raised the voice of the people in defense of peace.
He pointed out that the issues most discussed by Venezuela were the situation in Syria, which since 2011 has suffered armed conflict that has claimed 300,000 lives and generated 12 million displaced persons, as well as the Palestinian issue, vetoed by the United States government.
"Our term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council ends on December 31st. After 25 years, Venezuela returned to the UN Security Council by lifting the flags of our
"There are two issues that are deliberately buried and forgotten that is the subject of Western Sahara, an issue that has not been possible to advance and also, the most serious, being more active, is the issue of Palestine. Not only to avoid accepting any resolution of the Palestinian issue, in addition to avoiding touching the issue," said the Venezuelan diplomat. In order to resolve the issue of Palestine, Ramirez said, Venezuela will seek to promote a resolution for the process of decolonization in the Middle East country, where more than 600,000 settlers living in the country prevent Palestinians, mostly children, from having access to property and basic services.
multiplural foreign policy and worked within the Council to respect the principles of our policy and the United Nations, including respect for sovereignty, non-interference and in favor of peace," Ramirez said in an interview on the Dossier program broadcast by Television Venezuela.
Venezuela's agenda in the UN Security Council, he explained, was also aimed at promoting actions on more relevant issues that affect humanity, as is the case of peace and the sovereignty of the people.
"We have a strong political position and it has been characterized these two years, in which Venezuela has raised its voice, the

Promoting the unknown about Africa
Tanzania taking up community change projects Opinion By Esther Kibakaya It was a long journey that started with four schools and ended up with 20 participating of which 12 of them finished and submitted the projects reports to Great Hope Foundation team.
For William John and his friends, having several talent shows in the past at their school was just a normal fun routine, little did they know that if they could link their talents with community service and doing something positive they could make a changein the community.
Theckla Mathew from Zanaki Secondary School is one among the students who believes that engaging students in various school projects can help create responsible citizen.
This wasn't until when they had an opportunity to achieve their goal in a project in Community Change this year, by making a table and chairs for their school library: "I feel more responsible and for sure I know we can do so much more as students to bring positive changes in our community." Says William, a student from St. Augustine Secondary School.
" One thing I can say is, having community change project can really open our eyes on social responsibility and it can be a great learning opportunity to us. I believe as students we can do so much more. Though projects I have also learnt on how to work as a team and also nurture our talents. It has been a great experience and I plan to keep on doing Voluntary activities even after I finish my A level studies," explains Theckla.
Engaging students and helping them to learn innovatively can help to create valuable learning experiences by delivering innovative solutions that meet their needs. This is a fact that needs to be the primary goal of every school and all learning institutions.
For her part,Diana Wilson a student from Charambe Secondary School also believes that participating in community changing project helps students to learn that as young people they are still powerful, " We have talents and abilities that may not be openly seen in our daily school activities. But when we are motivated, we can bring a lot of change on our surrounding communities through our talents. But we also need to develop our talent." comments Diana.
Understanding this, schools, government and organisations have taken initiatives through various projects to ensure that students talents are recognised and well groomed. One of such projects is Uwezo Award Projects where students had an opportunity to work on various projects and awards were given to the Outstanding Community Change Projects to Secondary Schools Clubs that had participated.
However, to ensure that students understand how important it is for them to embrace their talents and using such talents to find solutions within their community, living testimony from those who have made it can be an important aspect. www.allafrica.com 9
