Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Embassy in the Republic of Kenya BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA MINISTRY OF PEOPLE'S POWER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMUNIQUÉ Vice-Ministry for North America of Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly rejects the interventionist statements of the United States Department of State spokesman Mark C. Toner, made on August 4 this year, interfering in domestic election of public office in Venezuela. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela insists that functions of public powers are governed unrestrictedly and without any exception, by the Venezuelan Constitution and its laws. Therefore, such sensitive public duties can not respond to any foreign command, guideline or instructions, which would violate the principles of sovereignty, integrity and selfdetermination of States. Finally, Vice-Ministry for North America of Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates to the United States of America that the building of friendly and transparent relations between both countries requires, as a key pre-condition, to abandon interventionist practices and foster the maintenance of a climate attached to international law and its principles. In this regard, we reaffirm our readiness to continue talks aimed at cultivating the regularization of bilateral diplomatic relations in the framework of international rules governing the good relations between States. National Constituent Assembly marked the beginning of a new social and participatory democracy

On August 3, 1999 the Aula Magna of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) serve as the setting for a historical fact: the National Constituent Assembly (NCA), a body that allowed to take the first steps towards establishing a social and participatory democracy. The creation of the Constituent Assembly, approved by 87.75% of the people on April 25, 1999, was set up to draft a new Constitution more adapted to the present times and based on the Bolivarian project of independence and justice, involving always the participation of the people. The call for setting up this instance, via referendum, was the first decree signed by the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chavez, who was elected President of the Republic on December 6, 1998. The board of the National Constituent Assembly was chaired by Luis Miquilena, Isaias Rodriguez as the first vice president and Aristobulo Isturiz as the second vice president and the remaining 128 assembly members, who got the majority of votes in the elections held on 25 July 1999. Constituent members were grouped in 21 Standing Committees. Then, on August 5, 1999 Commander Chavez, during the first day of debate in the National Constituent Assembly, said that these discussions should collect the expression of the people and reflect a national project on the new Constitution.

"In the new constitution, let me, sovereign constituent members, to offer this reflection: This is not only a task of jurists. ยกBe careful with air Republics again! This is about collecting the expression of national moments and having the ability to reflect on that new Constitution a new national project, a new idea of reshaping Venezuela," he said. In addition, during his program Alo President, broadcast on August 3, 2003, Commander Chavez described the installation of the Constituent Assembly as "sovereign, plenipotentiary, supra constitutional and defining" and indicated that this date opened a new era. "Times of peaceful revolution, end of an era and the beginning of another one, and the Constituent Assembly marked the transition and, above all, a day like today, Venezuelan constituent members began to prepare the draft constitution to be approved on 15 December of that year," he said. The text of the new Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela was approved on December 15, 1999 by 3,301,475 votes, that is 71.78% and entered into force on December 30 of that year. Venezuela opened the 21st century heading towards a new time, as Chavez would say, of battles for the construction of the Bolivarian socialism, made with the creative powers of the people, guarantor of its continuity and consolidation. CNN lies again about Venezuela News network CNN lies again about Venezuela and justifies as an “ human error ”, the “error ” made by its editorial line, aimed at affecting the peace of the Venezuelan people. This is an orchestrated, criminal, terrorist campaign that uses the audiovisual resource to deceive and to incite to violence, which we can show convincingly with incontrovertible evidence of each “ of the cases: incitement to the assassination of Commander Hugo Chavez, in May 2007 – as reported at the time by the Bolivarian Government – a series of lies and the use of images of a demonstration in Acapulco, Mexico, rejecting the death of a journalist in that country, which was reported as if it also happened in Venezuela in 2007. More recently, in September 2014, CNN also “made an error” trying to raise alarm, impose psychological warfare, reporting that in Maracay, Aragua state, deaths were produced by a virus that could be Ebola. Today, a strange coincidence occurs and CNN attacks again our country, and suspiciously reports that there have been looting in Aragua state. The transnational news network “makes an error” again and resorts to the argument of the error to justify a public and notorious editorial line based on an ongoing campaign against Venezuela, against our President Nicolas Maduro Moros and against our people; underestimating their ability to withstand the brutal attack and the economic war

organized by the national and international fascist right-wing and their media, such as CNN, which makes part of all this conspiracy of slur and lies against a country that makes efforts to work, study and keep building the homeland. CNN lies with its programming of war, with its intention of provoking confrontation among Venezuelans, as it happened in 2014, during the guarimbas that caused so much pain because of the murderous onslaught of the Venezuelan right-wing. CNN took hours and hours of programming to show that the whole country was on fire, dominated by a conflict and without any governance, supporting the violence committed by minorities to the detriment of the vast majority of the working population. Lying is unjustifiable, it is contrary to every doctrine and ethical guideline that should rule responsible journalism. A profession can not be practiced without any rigor. “Errors” can lead to civil war, as happened in Rwanda in 1994, when the media became missiles against the people. As regulatory body of public policies on this matter and taking responsibility for ensuring the full guarantee of freedom of expression and its responsible use enshrined in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Ministry of People’s Power for Communication and Information will take all measures and actions, both nationally and internationally, to guarantee respect for our laws and peace of the people. Venezuela Prepares for 2016 Olympics

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro approved Friday US$66 million in funding for sports facilities ahead of the 2016 Olympics. “All the resources have been approved, and the decisions made to prioritize steps for the benefit of the sports athletes,” Maduro stated. The president explained the new funding will prepare Venezuela to compete on the world stage at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also said the funding will help promote interest in sports generally across Venezuela. “Let’s strengthen the system of playing sports in Venezuela!” Maduro said. The funding will go towards the construction of training centers for sports including cycling, boxing, weight lifting, volleyball, fencing, shooting and judo. Funding has also been approved for the renovation of a number of Venezuela’s pools, according to the government. The funding for elite athletes is part of the Venezuelan government’s broader strategy for promoting sports. Another prong of the same strategy is the government’s sports initiatives under the Movement for Peace and Life, which brings together youth activists, community groups and the government to promote non-violence. Launched in 2013, the movement is also part of efforts to reduce violent crime. Telesur English
