NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ADOPTED DRAFT AGREEMENT IN COMMEMORATION OF AFRO-VENEZUELAN DAY Caracas, 05 May. AVN.The National Assembly (AN) approved a draft agreement on Tuesday to commemorate the Afro-Venezuelan Day to be held next May 10 in honor of the historical struggle that began in 1795, with African group, José Leonardo Chirinos against Spanish imperialism in the Sierra de Coro, Falcon state. As we celebrate the broad support it received this agreement, by the revolutionary bloc, President of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, said the inclusive policy promoted by the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chavez, to give recognition to the Venezuelan people of African descent. "(It is) sad that racism still prevails in some people, and when this proposal is presented today is mean to deny that here who gave voice not only indigenous people but people of African descent, was the commander Hugo Chavez. And here became rulers of all signs, with the
same pigmentation of us and with the same mixture of races, but nobody cared about indigenous people, by people of African descent (who did it) was Hugo Chavez,” Cabello said, who also stressed that only four deputies voted for the right project. Also speaking at the regular session of the National Assembly, Deputy Julio Chavez, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), referred to Chirinos representing the Venezuelan independence. "Today we are celebrating, commemorating 220 years of the heroic rebellion of Jose Leonardo Chirinos in the Serrania de Falcon and certainly that fact, which takes place on May 10, 1795, it became one of the most important events that inspired the independence of our country,” he said. OMBUDSMAN AFFIRMS VENEZUELA IS A GUARANTOR AND CARETAKER OF HUMAN RIGHTS The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is a guarantor and watcher of human rights, a transverse axis of the Constitution, said on 6th May, the Ombudsman, Tarek William Saab, during a meeting with the president of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil, Jo Moraes
Tarek Wiiliam Saab lamented the historical performances of the Venezuelan opposition, which in their actions for power, have engaged in practices outside the democratic way and have attacked fundamental rights in the country. “Venezuela experienced a terrible moment last year, when a very radical and extremist sector of the opposition chose an insurrectional path of disowning the legitimately constituted authorities”, recalled the Ombudsman regarding the plan called “La Salida” (The Exit), which triggered the death of 43 people, whose main sponsor is the member of the “Voluntad Popular” (People’s Will) political party, Leopoldo Lopez, currently arrested for those tragic events. Venezuela represents one of the most vigorous democracies, not only in the region but in the world, whose political model privileges the direct participation of citizens, through the replacement of the exclusive representation of political power in decision-making, leading to the active participation of the organized people. “In the Venezuelan democracy, unique in the world, consistently the people are being consulted on major national issues and on the renewal of its authorities,” said the ombudsman, referring to the 18 elections that have taken place in the Latin American country during the last 16 years. Brazil in solidarity: The president of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil, Jo Moraes, expressed Brazil’s solidarity with the Venezuelan people. “Our solidarity, respect and trust that the process of democratic building (in Venezuela) is ongoing; on that the expectation that the conduct of the elections (parliamentary) is the most vivid demonstration of that process, reflected.” The parliamentarian appealed to the Latin American unity and the support from brotherly countries, at a time when the international right wing tries to ruin the progressive advances in the region. “The Foreign Relations Committee of the Congress will always welcome the friendly countries of Latin America,” she said. VENEZUELA ENHANCES EFFORTS TO BRING DRINKING WATER FROM 96 TO 100% OF THE POPULATION.
Caracas, 05 May. AVN.With the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution in 1998, the water service in Venezuela ceased to be a privilege to become a human right which currently reaches 96% of the national population. Today's reality contrasts sharply with the figure in 1999, when 55% of the population living in areas of social exclusion had no water service. Efforts to claim this right were driven by the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chavez, and have remained under the leadership of President Nicolas Maduro.
For longer than five years, Venezuela exceeded the 2015 Millennium Development Goals proposed by the United Nations (UN) ahead of the 2015 deadline, by bringing water to as many people as possible. However, the Government is keen on expanding the service to achieve 100% coverage. To ensure that water reaches all Venezuelans, President Nicolas Maduro called last April 7 "to break the mold" concerning water policies, upon approval of founds that will drive forward, through the Ecosocialism and Water Ministry, a comprehensive water plan for the whole country.
Between 2001 and 2012 investment in drinking water and sanitation in Venezuela was 8,8 billion dollars, according to figures from the former Ministry of Environment.
For this plan, 4,4 billion bolivars and $ 128 million were passed by the national executive. For the first stage of the plan, starting in Vargas state, on the coast of the country, they awarded 1,1 billion bolivars and $ 29 million.
Among the works carried out during these years to guarantee the right to water stand out increase in domestic sewage treatment rate, refurbishment of existing waste water treatment plants and repair of pumping lines to strengthen the performance of country's major aqueducts.
"If the water problem is a matter that affects life in general, but particularly here in the state of Vargas, and in Falcon, let's do whatever we have to do, let's break schemes, mate Guillermo Barreto (Ecosocialism and Water Minister) to bring the most advanced technologies to make sure water
supply of people of Vargas does not run dry, comrade," said the head of state in his radio program. By the people and for the people During radio show, President Nicolas Maduro called the ministers, governors and mayors to provide full support for the comprehensive water plan to be developed efficiently and thus make sure the service reaches everywhere across the country. "Let's break indolence of bureaucrats and technocrats, we have to break it comrade. We are not here to be sympathetic. Ministers are here to demand and self-demand, and scold who has to be scolded." In the same vein, President highlighted the work of the people's power or organized communities, who have been working in Water Task Forces for effective responses in the supply of drinking water. Over 9,000 Water Task Forces have been set up throughout the country, according to data from the former Environment Ministry, updated in March 2014. Through these groups, composed of men, women and youth committed to the search for alternatives to improve the management of water services, people's power has managed to implement projects for the benefit of the collective. Thus, the Water Task Forces have established themselves as the best relationship between government and people to make water more and more accessible to Venezuelans.
