L’Intervallo A rest stop near Genova, Italy

Ronco Scrivia is a small comune in the Metropolitan City of Genoa in the Italian region-Liguria, located 20 kilometres to the north of Genoa. Italian Autogrills are one of the most unique infrastructures built on Italian highways. One such structure designed by A.Bianchetti is located in a Rest-stop in this small town of Ronco Scrivia.

time away from the fast paced and digital world? The design starts with a composition of three buildings (A landmark, a public building and a total interior) which is inserted totally or partially into the rest areas of the A 7 highway, to create a qualified center of activities, transforming a humble rest area in a point of attraction for travelers and citizens.

Today, a rest stop today is used for 2 main purposes - Food and Fuel. “Resting” in these spaces have drastically reduced after industrialization, but there is a change from Fossil fuel to Electric energy. Battery powered cars take time to charge and instead of waiting in a cafe for a minimum of 30mins to an hour or more. Can we create a space where one can reconnect with nature and rest? To make it a point of attraction, so that they can spend

Via Serio , Milano Reinventing cities

One of the most important redevelopment projects in Milan.A refurbished and entirely sustainable area that redefines the city’s geography. Symbiosis is a flexible and highly technological Business District south of the Porta Romana neighbourhood of Milan that introduces a previously unimaginable model of the future. Symbiosis is part of Sharing Cities, a project focused on upgrading the Porta RomanaVettabbia district of Milan, following the guidelines of the Horizon 2020 European Framework Programme for Research And Innovation.

research centres and international destinations such as the iconic Fondazione Prada and Talent Garden. The neighbourhood is also an important player in an overall redevelopment programme that includes the former Porta Romana Railway Station and the 0,5 ha vacant lot in via Serio, one of the five sites proposed by Milan City Council for the “Reinventing Cities” global competition.

Symbiosis offers an ideal balance between productivity, efficiency and quality of life, in a dynamic central district, perfectly connected with the rest of the city and surrounded by museums, universities, headquarters,

Viale Col di Lana, Milano A communal living space

The building in viale col di lana is a load bearing structure, with external structural walls, a central spine - also structural and intermediate walls as partitions that make the apartments. They are accessed from a corridor approximately 90cm wide, and staircase cores at the intersections of the building. The problem with the building? The building is functionally designed, there is no space for communal activity, the corridors are too narrow for people to meet and the layout is quite rigid, almost like that of a typical hotel corridor. The movement of people is only from the street to the courtyard and to their homes. The proposal is aimed at pushing the limits of the building and the building laws - of what we can consider as an apartment, and to

increase the possibilities of social interaction for the occupants of the building. The definition of an apartment according to milanese regulations is as follows - Housing may have a defined plan or free plan, that is, without fixed boundaries. The accommodation cannot have a usable area of less than 28 square meters. But what is the accommodation?

The design focuses on trying to expand on this idea and also tries to break away from the idea of a typical apartment by creating communal spaces like living areas, common kitchens, dining areas, and bathrooms as shared spaces along with private modular units that can be either as bedrooms or even small work spaces customised as per the resident’s needs.

Retrofitting San Siro Social housing

such as loggias, courtyards or communal spaces that create different levels of social interractions.

The retrofitting of san siro blocks is to regenerate the fabric of the neighborhood and ensure flexibilty, comfort and social life to its inhabitants thank to an architectural and urban intervention at the different scales of the project: block, building, clusters.

Modifications on the lower levels are minimal due to structural implications, so an open layout for co-housing dwelling units is planned on the new floors retrofitted above the existing building.

The intervention relies on practical soft actions in order to ensure permeability of the blocks, diversity of outdoor spaces, flexible housing and new ways of living. Using a system of modularity the houses can increase or decrease in size according to the needs and the evolution of the tenants. New typologies are offered for a compatible and comfortable use of the space with respect to the cultural richness of the inhabitants, along with multiple exterior spaces shared or private 5

Snowdon Aviary Documentation

The Snowdon Aviary at London Zoo is a landmark of historic, cultural and architectural significance. Conceived by the late Lord Snowdon and realised by the internationally recognised architect Cedric Price, this building remains one of the most globally innovative architectural structures since its construction in 1978. This project is a documentation and redrawing of the Snowdon Aviary. The structure is redrawn with computer aided software using hand-drawn documents and some photographs that were used for the construction of the same.

Inmos factory Documentation

PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK STUDENT VERSION

The Inmos Microprocessor Factory is a highly-flexible single-storey steel structure that was conceived as a prefabricated kit of parts that could be constructed anywhere. It contains a microchip factory, and like many of Richard Rogers other high-tech buildings, is identified by the outward expression of its structure and building services that help keep its interiors column free. In the case of the factory, this emanates from nine blue-painted towers made from tubular steel that are positioned along the centre of its roof. This project is a documentation and redrawing of the Inmos Factory. The structure is redrawn with computer aided software using scanned documents and some photographs.

minutes or walk thorough the Memorial in fifteen minutes absorbing its essence while passing the wall of honour, or can spend time in the gardens above or pay respect to the fallen soldiers sitting in front of the wall of honor.

We believe that the Memorial should be an exclusive and a singular experience, a genteel absorbing place. The Summit area should be sacred. It is not a memorial for a closed historical chapter but a live and dynamic place honouring a continuum of the past 70 years. It aims to capture the continuing sacrifice, spirit, extraordinary effort and an unfathomable resolve.

Architecturally, the Memorial draws from its context of Lutyens Delhi, aligning itself to the strength of the axis of the Rashtrapathi Bhawan – India Gate – Chhatri, and creating dramatic vistas of ascending and descending ground planes. Climatically and ecologically the memorial responds to its context by sinking the functional spaces to a subterranean level where the land mass insulates the space, covered and open walkways and water features to cool the micro-environment, thus enabling all weather and all year functionality.

Conceptually, the Memorial area is an insulated sunken place to enhance its sanctity. The horizontal expanse has given it a balance. A ceremonial homage place is created as a solidifier which heals, instils pride, perpetuates ties and feels like a community affair. It is surrounded by a natural environment and varied public places to make it welcoming. A person can pass through the area in about five

The massing was envisaged as a simple staggered form of floor plates in contrast to the typical box shaped buildings adjacent to the site. The front of the building is left as an open floor with glass facades to maximize options to rent out the space - which was initially for a luxury car showroom but was later taken up by the renowned sanitary ware company, Roca. All the other services - lifts, staicases and electrical rooms are planned behind this open floor.

The last floor was designed as a completely private space shielding the inhabitants from the busy street by using a perforated panel behind which are open to sky spaces providing natural light and ventilation. The rest of the layout of the penthouse is made to resemble that of the older building where the client grew up. The main entrance opens up to a large courtyard open to the sky where the client also has private art exhibitions. The building is also a LEED Gold certified building.

PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK STUDENT VERSION

The Heritance is a commercial building located on an extermely busy main road in the heart of the city. The client had three main requirements - a commercial space to be rented out as retail shwrooms or office spaces, one independent floor as a penthouse for themselves and to preserve all the trees on the site.

Plan B Restobar

The design of Plan-B is an urban-industrial setup characterized by locally sourced materials and distressed finishes. The entrance is through a small vestibule with “Plan B” etched into the plastered wall, exposing the raw brick behind. This sets the tone for the chiseled brick walls, raw cement finishes and distressed wood paneling. The bar face is clad with a pattern of geometric Athangudi tiles, taking a traditional tile from the interiors of Tamil Nadu and using it in a very contemporary space. Light fixtures are sculpted out of plumbing pipes complete with vintage flow valves, some of which are picked up in bright colors, and the dimly lit Edison lamps throw a warm glow to the interiors. On one of these walls stands a larger than

life ‘Rooster decoupage,’ and running along the rooster wall is a long and spacious community table. This is one of the most popular areas in the restaurant as it can serve a very large group of revelers as well as several smaller groups, which by the end of the night becomes one large happy community. The table foot rests are once again detailed with plumbing pipes in a manner similar to the light fixtures. There are some private booths along one side and a very large island bar which is sprinkled with bar stools all around, some in grey and some punctuated with bright canary yellow. The extensive overhead glass and bottle displays, the plumbing pipe chandeliers and the tungsten lamps, all come together to make this a great hang out space.

One Night in Bangkok A Thai Dive bar

One night in Bangkok, as the name of the bar suggests was inspired by the song by Murray Head and ofcourse a trip by the clients to Thailand and it's famous Dive bars. The clients already had a chain of restobars, Plan-b being one of them, wanted to explore a new theme for their restobar. Thai dive bars are extremely dark, where one would need a flash light to read anything off the menu, the design requirement was to create a space that invokes a similar experience. The entrance is through an emerald drapped curtain hung from the ceiling to cut off any residual light entering the bar. On the right side of the entrance, the customer is greated by a Dvarapala or a door guardian portrayed here as a Warrior. The seating arrangement of the bar is very

1 VIew of the bar from the entrance. 2 View of the Dvarapala or The warrior with an artwork of Muay-fighters customised on a wallpaper.

close and tight to replicate a typical Thai dive bar scenario. Each table is lit with one tiny spot light from the ceiling providing light only for that particular table so that the rest of the space remains relatively dark. The walls of the bar are finished with grey and red pigmented cement, while in some areas they are covered with hand painted artwork/murals of warriors or custom wallpapers with Muay thai fighters. The bar counter is set in the center of the space, clad with athangudi tiles with a customized flower pattern that continues on the floor as well. Like the song, the place is an oriental setting - with artifacts, life size statues, traditional artwork, ornamental chandeliers and lanterns all imported from Thailand that immediately sets the mood of the space.
