Activity 1. Knowing sketching drawing Cubes In this activity we had to make several drawings of this cubes, with each point of view and make a smaller one inside each. This activity was the first one and the key to understanding things we saw along the subject. We learned with this activity how to make drawings based on what we see, knowing how the shapes and lines works. Also, very important for this course, we learned how to understand the basics of light, composition, volume and shadows. This work helped us understand how we can simplify objects to its basic shapes for a better understanding of it.

Competencies I think I developed Significant and intentional representation

Activity 2. Recognise shape and space Building with meaning This activity was to make an analysis of the shape and parts that define a building based on what we saw at class. We had to identify the importance of the shape, space and design on a building that was close to us or hold a special meaning. This helped us to understand how does space and form works on a building or certain area.

Activity 8. Form transformation This was a presentation I made in class, each classmate had its own building to present, mine was the Stockholm Public Library. I had to present based on the things i’ve been learning in class such as the forms, the classifications of it and more. We practiced identifying the operations of the shape since that would help us later on our shelter.

Activity 11. My clay cube in a cardboard scale model This activity was based on activity 1, yet this one was physically made with cardboard. We had to make a cube and cute three sides of it. Because of this we learnt how does the scale works, and also how to make two dimensional drawings into three dimensional prototypes.

Competencies I think I developed Intentional representation

Shelter: brainstorming about my shelter This assignment was for putting the ideas that we had of our shelter out somewhere, with this we got a clearer idea about how we wanted our shelter to look like, the materials, and what for. I learnt how there is a reason/ a why to everything in a structure and that the idea just doesn’t come out of nowhere, is something you work on.

Challenge. Bruno Munari’s Methodology This was a document we had to make based on the Bruno Munari’s methodology for us to learn about it. Activity 12. Cube Sketchup modeling During this activity, we had to make a cube using a Graphic design program. In this cube we had to cut three sides, make smaller cubes inside and identify each view with a color. Thanks to this activity we became familiar with design programs, and how to make three dimensional objects, which helped us a lot in the creation of our shelter.

Activity 3. A theory of light and shade (Exercise 2) In this activity we had to make two drawings, one based on a photo with natural light and another one with artificial light. I chose to draw an apple (natural) and a toy (artificial). We learned with this exercise how the shadows and the form is not the same based on the light the object receives.

Live Home 3D This activity was my favorite, we had to make a room plan based on a space where we could be comfortable at without going out because of the pandemic. I ended up making a department with everything I needed, but I forgot ventilation on the restroom. I learnt with this activity the importance of scale, on planning each element of a plan and how to solve every problem I came across.

Reflections

Final Reflection During this block I learned and strengthened many skills, some that I already possessed, and some that I rediscovered. I have always been a very creative person and I like to work with the visual, with the sound and the narrative. I always liked creating using anything, yet I hadn’t tried architecture, until now. It was a block where I enjoyed all of the homework and work I had even if some of them took too long because it was handcrafted, but i still enjoyed all that time. My classmates and mostly my teachers made me feel welcomed and comfortable during our classes and without knowing I ended up looking forward to our next class. The teachers love what they do so I loved what I was doing and learning from them, some classmates such as David who also were participating a lot made me also want to participate. This block was excellent in every way, I enjoyed it a lot, and I think it has been so far, my favorite class out of all the classes i’ve had in college. Thanks to the coolest teachers ever and to the most warming classmates I was able to have a special connection with this course, I hope we see each other soon.

For Mr. Ed Thanks teacher for everything. Time and time again throughout the weeks we could see how much you love teaching and having time with us students, to be together. I really appreciate how you always checked the procedure of everyone because that way no one was left behind. You were always giving suggestions, helping us when we had trouble and congratulating us when we did well. I really tried my best in every work I made because I could feel the love you have for the subject and that made an impact in me, because I entered with doubts at the beginning of the course. Thanks to your help with the slots and shadows I ended up having fun with my homework because I could also integrate other arts which I’m really glad. You have made an impact on me so as Ms Marian and showed me to always give opportunity to everything, to make with love everything you do. Thanks for being such a wonderful teacher Mr. Ed, I hope we can see each other soon so I can go say hi to you:)

For Ms. Marian Thanks teacher, I can’t even begin to express my gratitude to you because of all that you have given. I entered with doubts because it was a type of art i never tried before but because I also saw that most of them were men, without including Cat. You made me feel comfortable with participating, with having my camera on, with expressing myself fully. I am so glad that I had you in this class because I felt this sensation of heart-warming and genuine happiness and excitement whenever I had this class. You teached me so many stuff not only educational but personal too, I even got to a point where I could present in front of everyone without having anxiety because you always supported me alongside with Mr. Ed. You were always smiling and happy and with this facility to talk to which I’m really glad because it’s hard to find that in teachers. Thank you for teaching me how to genuinely love a class and everything we do in it, for letting me have this special connection with the class and most of all thank you both for being amazing teachers, I hope you continue this way. Until I see you both and we can say hi to each other in person, don’t forget me as I won’t forget you both:)
