Basel, 15.5.2014 Recommendation Letter for Ms Vera Neves
Dear Sir or Madam, Ms Vera Neves has sucessfully completed the Winter Semester in the Stadtbaukunst und Entwerfen department at T.U. Kaiserslautern. I have known her as an engaged student who, by virtue of her careful and in-depth research and by a solid architectural work, has developed a project at a highly professional level. She has worked and developed her project concerning History and architectonic talent and I was very happy with the result. I also want to add that she took this as an opportunity to apply her German knowledge and continuously improve it. I can only testify to an excellent experience with Ms Vera Neves and warmly recommend her. She will now look for an internship, which I would like to encourage. For more detailed information, feel free to contact me. Yours sincerely, Marco ZĂźnd, Architect BSA

SITUATION PLAN
The concept is to preserve the memory of the industrial architecture that already existed in the area, creating a new net of buildings and public spaces, oriented in a comb structure, orthogonal to the main building. The buildings chosen to remain (marked in dark grey) were the ones considered to be of greater architectonic interest as well as being the more symbolic to preserve the memory of the place. The new buildings aim to participate in this structure creating a rhythm between built space and open space which is repeated according to a rule, ďŹ nding its exception only in the wider space of the square. By the same token, the square becomes the core of the block, where a more stable public space invites to the peopleĘźs permanence.

SITUATION PLAN
The proposal departs from the contextʼs analysis, concerning the public spaces as well as the buildings, focusing on two particularly remarkable: the metro station designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura and the Trindade Church - which are strong built references in this area of the city. The new public spaces are an entrance square which relates directly to the city and a courtyard which relates to the building only; the differences in their character are a result of the various levels of privacy that the building aims to establish, once it manages both its internal programme and its urban presence. The building is divided in two main volumes that reflect the programʼs interpretation: the need to separate the public areas - such as the exhibition galleries, the auditorium and the cafeteria - and the more specific ones - as the archives, the documentʼs consulting rooms and service areas. The atrium aims to relate the circulationsʼ distribution and to articulate the different levels, maintaining visual relations of permanent discovery and surprise throughout the course. Both volumes have a granite base which relates directly to the exterior pavementsʼ material. Over that base lies an enclosed white box, with few openings. This principle of basement and box applies also to the buildingʼs interior, as a global unification of the proposal. ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO | VERA NEVES

GROUND FLOOR PLAN
The proposed project explores the relationship between temporariness and permanence, both as cultural and urban features: the moduleʼs design is a metaphor of the occupantʼs situation, as it seeks permanent integration in the city, as the occupant seeks a permanent reintegration in society. The house interprets traditional elements of housing, such as the elevated access to the entrance, the sloped roof and the front porch, adapting them to the small scale of the unit. The main intention is to suggest that, even in a provisional lowcost and low-tech project, important associations with the idea of “home” are maintained. The modules are built using Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) and are elevated from the ground (ramped access from the sidewalk is guaranteed). On the one hand, this constructive system enables easy installation and transportation; it reduces the costs in assemblage, since it can be quickly built with pre-fabricated panels in which the builder only needs to insert the window and doors. Each house has a small private garden. We propose one way of associating house and garden, but the design allows for a certain flexibility in this association.

04_ OPEN AIR THEATRE CHERKASY, UA COMPETITION | 3 MONTHS IN COLABORATION W/ PAULO GUERREIRO
SITUATION PLAN
The project develops a basic relationship suggested by the idea of an open air theater: what is the experience of being covered and enclosed or, by contrast, of being exposed to the “open air”? This fundamental question is the basis of the project. The proposal is an exploration of the presence of a suspended roof, a strong element on the parkʼs landscape which makes these contrasting experiences clearer. By having a purposefully strong geometry (which approximately maintains the current theaterʼs perimeter), the building establishes a contrast to its natural environment, not in order to highlight itself but rather to highlight what already exists: the trees, the pathways, the open spaces of the park. When the theater is fully open, one can move freely under the shade of the roof, looking at the park from different points of view. The building frames the landscape, the tall trees, the sky and the stage – which can be open both to the main interior stands of the theater or to the opposite side, onto an open area with a strong relationship to the park. Through this feature, the theater can have a flexible use, either with more formal events with larger audiences or with smaller and more informal activities. The constructive materials integrate the new building in its environment: exposed concrete for the supporting structures of the roof (pillars and the main curved wall – in natural colour on the outside and painted in white on the inside), local timbers for the construction and cladding of the roof volume and a lightweight and removable metallic structure for the audience stands. Additionally, we propose that the removable roofing for the audience and stage be a roll of translucent textile material, that can be folded or unfolded according to need. The proposal establishes a roof that encloses all of the theatreʼs activities, offering enhanced visual continuity and a more permeable experience between theater and park. EXTENSION AND REFURBISHMENT PROJECT | APRIL - DECEMBER 2016 ATELIER PF2ARQ Estudo Preliminar, Estudo Prévio, Comunicação Prévia, Projecto de Execução [a decorrer]
SITUATION PLAN
The building is set at Rua do Cruzeiro, which is a very important urban artery in Lisbon, since it was conceived to link Ajudaʼs National Palace to the city centre, being therefore the kings priveledged path. The proposal is developed through three different floors, which allow for the level management and connection between the main and back facades. As far as functional organization is concerned, the main social spaces are located at Floor -1, the three ensuite bedrooms in the groundfloor and an openspace intended as a lesure area connected to a terrasse on the top floor. The stairs have been though as a scultoric element, including a light ... that enables for the vertical and visual unification between the three floors. We have seekan for the maintnance of all three facades, which have only been enlarged in height, as they were found to be the elements which had the most significant architectonical value in the pre-existing building. The new elementʼs architectonical language refers to the materials found in the surrounding context, although their treatment and finnish has an absolutely contemporary expression.
