Fall 2016 Solo On a grid of 21 columns, create spaces and circulation by only using floors. The 12-meter-tall columns are spaced 2.5 meters apart and sit atop a square platform, 4 meters in height, intended to carve into.

PLAN OBLIQUE

Design Aim Explore the concept of static and dynamic space in relation to vertical circulation methods. Can circulation be part of the room and the room part of the circulation. The whole building serves as one big staircase though which one can move to reach their desired destination. Each plate is vertically spaced apart by 31 cm This results in a continuous movement, and a variety of levels of privacy in the structure. The variations in height can also serve as building furniture, where the floors can act as seating areas, standing desks, etc.

Winter 2017 Solo Make a set of drawings of Corbusier’s Villa Stein. Analyse conceptual aspect, and create a sectional model representing it.

Design Aim Disassemble the second floor and reconstruct it into a new 3-floor, 3-dimensional form. The floor was disassembled based on the grid and clusters of identifiable spaces.

Winter 2017 Solo Building on top of Villa Stein’s analysis, design a residential unit on an existing site in McPherson Ave., Toronto. The residence is designed for a socialite with an interest in urban farming and a furniture designer.

RENDER + UNDERLINING DESIGN LOGIC

Design Aim Playing with the idea of generic style and individuality. Each function of the domestic, work, and recreational life is broken down and placed in a separate unit. The units are then later combined into a complex that forms the villa. The units are purposefully designed with to have the same shape and size, with a typical house frame. Generic exteriors are contrasted with individualized interiors.
