2. Material selection and application

I also learn the importance of material application in a space. It can help emphasize the intended mood and character of the space. For example, most of my design are using wood finishes, green and beige colored finishes to emphasize the theme of the space, which is related to nature. However, it also needs to be placed in the suitable area according to its durability and strength, considering the safety and convenience of the users.

3. Sustainability - Green Design & Efficiency

Moreover, it would be better if the design and materials used are eco-friendly and energy saving.

One way to do this is to incorporate many openings such as windows and transparent ceiling in the design, which can let natural lighting come into the space, therefore minimal artificial lighting will be needed. LED lighting is also more preferable as it is proven to be using 75% less power than incandescent lighting. Another way to do it is to put a separated light switch for each area, so only the areas that requires additional lighting should be lit up, not a centralized switch which will light up every area at the same time.
