Jetzt ist es schwarz auf weiß nachzulesen, kein Zweifel: In Bozen lebt es sich am besten. Und zwar nicht nur in der Stadt, sondern in ganz Südtirol. Bozen liegt italienweit vorne was Einkaufskraft der Familien, Beschäftigung sowie Theater- und Konzertbesuche betrifft. In den Top-Ten auch für Sport, Freizeit und Umwelt.

Am besten aber lebt es sich in Bozen. Die Bozner wissen das zwar auch ohne Statistik und wohl auch die vielen Gäste, die es immer wieder in diese lebendige Kulturstadt

und Tor zu den Dolomiten zieht, aber es tut auch gut, es von offizieller Seite bestätigt zu bekommen. Die Familien

geben im Schnitt 2.660 € pro Monat aus (700 € mehr als

zeitung auflistet. Zum Beispiel, was die Anzahl von Restaurationsbetrieben betrifft. Hier liegt Südtirol mit 621 Betrieben nur auf Platz 49. Ein Wert, der sicher nicht

für die Stadt Bozen gilt, wo der Aperitif und das Eis, das Essengehen zur Lebenskultur gehören. Schlusslicht ist

Südtirol auch was die Anzahl der Buchhandlungen be-

trifft, mit nur 3,6 pro hunderttausend Einwohner. Ein Wert, der noch unterboten wird von den Kinos: 1,2 pro

hunderttausend Einwohner. Aber auch hier sähe die

Platzierung anders aus, wenn es nur um Bozen ginge.

Bozen hat 106.000 Einwohner und drei Kinos mit 16 Sälen, wo Filme in deutscher, italienischer und Originalsprache zu sehen sind.

Zum Vergleich standen 36 Werte in den Kategorien

Wirtschaft & Arbeit, Bevölkerung, Öffentliche Ordnung, Dienstleistungen & Umwelt, Freizeit und Lebensstandard. Den höchsten Punktsatz konnten Bozen und Südtirol im Bereich Lebensstandard verbuchen, 706 von tausend möglichen Punkten. Nur ein Wert fällt hier aus dem Rahmen: Platz 106 für den Quadratmeterpreis, der mit 3.150 € zu den höchsten in Italien zählt. Aber auch das ist letztendlich ein Zeichen für Qualität und die hat ihren Preis.

Bolzano è l’indiscusso numero uno in Italia per quanto riguarda la qualità di vita. Non solo il capoluogo, ma tutta la provincia. Sono stati considerati 36 valori di sei aree tematiche. Bolzano ha eccelso nei consumi per la famiglia, per il tasso di occupazione e per le presenze agli spettacoli. Ottimi anche i valori che riguardano sportività, tempo libero e ambiente.

l’arco alpino, come infatti Trento, Sondrio, Cuneo e Aosta. Tra la top ten anche due province toscane, Firenze al quarto e Siena al nono posto.

A Bolzano, provincia e capoluogo, si vive al meglio, eccome. Le famiglie consumano in media 2.660 € (700 € in più

della media) al mese, vanno spesso a vedere spettacoli (8.635 presenze) e soprattutto hanno un lavoro: l’indice dell’occupazione è di 70,8 % (media 56 %). Bolzano si è in-

colloca al quarto posto anche per la sua eco-performance. Bolzano è verde ed è contornata dal verde, nonché dalle montagne tra le più belle del mondo. Vanta una rete ci-

clabile sterminata che farebbe invidia addirittura a alcune città olandesi e regala ad abitanti e turisti un’offerta per il tempo libero che è difficile da trovare altrove.

Essere perfetta in tutto non sarebbe umano e perciò an-

che Bolzano ha le sue aree chiamiamole problematiche. Per quanto riguarda per esempio il numero dei ristoranti e dei bar, la provincia si colloca con i suoi 621 esercizi al 49esimo posto. Un valore che sarebbe diverso se si con-

siderasse solo il capoluogo dove certamente l’offerta non

manca. Per il numero delle librerie Bolzano è classificata 106esima con 3,5 librerie ogni 100.000 abitanti. Anche per il numero dei cinema la provincia non eccelle, sono ancora

meno, 1,2 ogni 100.000 abitanti. Anche qui il numero non

quadra con Bolzano città che con i suoi 106.000 abitanti conta ben tre cinema con complessivamente 16 sale che offrono spettacoli in italiano e tedesco e anche in lingua originale.

Il settore dove Bolzano ha potuto raccogliere più punteggi, 706 di 1000, è quello che riguarda il tenore di vita. Se non

There’s no doubt about it, now it‘s official: Bolzano is the number one place to live in Italy. Not just the town itself, but the whole of South Tyrol. Bolzano tops the list in Italy for families’ purchasing power, for employment and for theatre and concert visits. It’s also in the top 10 for sport, for leisure facilities and for environmental quality.

Zunächst heißt es von Tiers dem steilen Wanderweg Nr. 2 durch die Bärenfalle zu folgen. Immerhin 900 Höhenmeter entlang der tiefen Schlucht. Je höher der Wande-

rer kommt, desto schöner die Aussicht. Nach und nach erhebt sich der Latemar hinter den Baumwipfeln und auch das Rosengartenmassiv zeigt sich in seiner ganzen majestätischen Schönheit.

Egal wo man in Bozen den Kopf in die Höhe streckt – sie sind nicht zu übersehen, die Gipfel von Schlern und Rosengarten. Schon seit den Pionierjahren des Bergsteigens war Bozen Ausgangspunkt für Gipfelstürmer.

Ist der erste höchste Punkt, der Tschafatsch-Sattel auf 2070 m erreicht, geht es gemütlich der Baumgrenze ent-

lang über Bergwiesen bis zu den Schlern-Häusern. Das dem italienischen Alpenverein CAI Bozen gehörende

Schutzhaus ist für alle Bedürfnisse der Bergwanderer

ausgerüstet. Unser Ziel liegt aber noch hundert Meter höher: die Schlernspitze.

Im Sommer ist dieser 2.560 Meter hohe Dolomitengipfel von Kälbern und Kühen bewohnt. Der Ausblick ins Tal und

auf die Dolomitenwelt ist zu jeder Tageszeit spektakulär: die Seiser Alm und die sie umgebenden Bergmassive, die

bunt blühenden Sommerweiden des Schlern, die sich bis

zur Bergkette der Rosengartengruppe ausdehnen. Auch

der Latemar steht dort im Süden mit seiner schroffen Erhabenheit. An dieser Stelle den Sonnenuntergang und die darauf folgende Däm-

Über den nach rechts eingeschlagenen Steig Nr. 3a verlassen wir die satten Bergweiden und steigen in

felsigem Gelände hinauf zum Molignon-Sattel, wo man

durch zwei Felswände hindurch den Grasleiten-Pass, unser nächstes Ziel, bereits sehen kann. Zuvor heißt

es aber in steilem Gelände abzusteigen in eine ausgedehnte vegetationslose Felswüste.

Tageswanderer können, unten angelangt, ihre Tour nach rechts in das Tschamintal, über die Grasleitenhütte

bis hinunter zum Parkplatz fortsetzen. Wer hingegen auf

der Schlernhütte übernachtet hat, geht jetzt weiter über den Grasleiten-Pass zur legendären und für ihre vielseitige Küche (auch vegan oder vegetarisch) bekannte Vajolet-Hütte zu Füßen der bizarren Vajolettürme, um

von dort den Aufstieg zum Rosengarten in Angriff zu nehmen.

Nun wird es allerdings alpin und entsprechende Ausrüstung ist erforderlich. Ein zum Teil gesicherter, felsiger Klettersteig führt 500 Meter hoch zum höchsten Punkt

der Wanderung auf 2.750 m Höhe, den Santnerpass. Die gleichnamige kleine Schutzhütte ist leider seit Jahren geschlossen.

Um die dahinter liegende, etwa 2 Seillängen hohe Wand zum Rosengartengipfel zu erklimmen, reicht unsere Ausrüstung für diesen Tag nicht. Aber es muss ja nicht

immer ein Gipfelkreuz sein. Wir begnügen uns mit der

einmaligen Aussicht über die ausgedehnten Wälder des

Eggentales, das Tierser Tal, den Schlern, den wir in den

L’Alto Adige è una terra baciata da un clima meraviglioso con più di trecento giorni di sole all’anno. Valtl Raffeiner ne approfitta per coltivare la sua passione: le orchidee. Sono oltre 500 specie diverse quelle che crescono nel suo “Mondo delle Orchidee”, un giardino tropicale a Gargazzone, seimila metri quadrati di serra per il divertimento di tutta la famiglia. Un luogo magico, pieni di fiori, colori, profumi e giochi.

In Barbaras Labor wurden über 300 Sorten aus aller

Welt auf ihre Südtirol- und Verkaufstauglichkeit geprüft. Da nicht alle verwertbar für den Verkauf sind, kam Valtl

Raffeiner auf die Idee, einen tropischen Erlebnisgarten zu schaffen. Am 12. März wurde die Orchideenwelt eröffnet.

Die Pflanzen sind an alten Apfelbaumstämmen befestigt, hängen an Gittern oder in Körben, die von der Decke pen-

deln. Die Orchidee ist eine Pflanze, die einen Wirt zum Wachsen braucht, an dem sie sich festhält, den sie aber

im Gegensatz zum Parasiten nicht zum Leben braucht. Sie ist ein Luftwurzler, ein Epophyt. Erde brauchen diese Pflanzen nicht, dafür aber viel Feuchtigkeit. Jeden Morgen um 8 Uhr werden sie tropfberegnet. Im Gewächshaus herrscht

Kinder dürfen sich auf zahlreichen Schleichwegen im Orchideendschungel verlieren und können sich an Lianen in

Tarzan- und Jane-Spielen üben oder sich auf dem Erlebnisspielplatz austoben, während Mama und Papa einen Kaffee trinken.

Im Tropencafé oder an den verschiedenen Aussichtspunkten kann man sich ausruhen oder ganz der Betrachtung dieser Pflanzen hingeben. Die Orchideenwelt

eignet sich auch als Ort für Konzerte, Feste oder Aus-

stellungen. Wenn man Valtl Raffeiner fragt, welche seine

Lieblingsorchidee ist, bleibt er die Antwort allerdings schuldig. „Ich mag sie alle gern!“

Valtl Raffeiner had already decided many years ago to change his traditional garden nursery into a specialist

orchid nursery. His bestseller, Falenopsis, comes in all

manner of colours. His passion for these unusual flowers, surprisingly undemanding as they are and requiring little care, coupled with the fact that his daughter Barbara had specialised in tissue culture, led to the decision to set up Orchid World.

Over 300 types of orchid from all over the world are examined in Barbara’s laboratory to see if they lend themsel-

ves to be grown in South Tyrol and if they saleable. Since

not all of them can put on sale, her father Valtl had the idea of setting up a tropical orchid experience garden. And so Orchid World was opened on 12th March.

The plants are attached to old apple tree trunks, or they hang in slotted orchid pots or in baskets suspended from

the ceiling. The orchid is a plant that requires a host on which to attach itself so that it can grow. In contrast to

parasites, however, it doesn’t need to feed on the host. It

ture of around 15°C; in summer the temperature is always

a few degrees cooler than outside. The plants give rise to a humidity of 70%.

These slow-growing and extremely undemanding plants are particularly suitable for balconies, for example tied to lattices. What is important is that they are sprayed with

water every day and that direct sunlight is avoided. When

temperatures fall below 10°C, they should be taken inside. A path winds its way through this colourful orchid world and there are explanations about each plant, with de-

tails about its place of origin, its name, its flowering time, etc. Palms, ficus and other tropical plants give the giant

Visitors can have a rest in the tropical café or in one of

several viewpoints, surveying the beauty of these plants.

Orchid World also lends itself as a venue for concerts, celebrations or exhibitions. When asked which is his favou-

rite orchid, Valtl Raffeiner gives a non-commital answer: „I simply like them all!“

Die Kellerei Bozen, entstanden 2001 aus der Fusion der

Genossenschaften der Grieser und der St. Magdalener Weinbauern, zählt 200 Mitglieder und produziert auf ins-

gesamt 330 ha ca. drei Mio. Flaschen pro Jahr, 35 % davon sind Weißweine. Auch Bozen ist Mitglied, die Gemeinde

They are dark red and velvety, have a hint of forest berries, cherries, violets, almonds and barrique. They prosper on well-aerated, gravelly soils, especially those of volcanic porphyry, they enjoy 300 days of sun a year and dry temperatures of up to 40 degrees. What are they? The answer: Lagrein and St. Magdalener.

grow both on the sun-kissed slopes and also in the valley within the town itself, at altitudes ranging from 205 m to 700 m. There’s an

old saying: Venice swims on water but Bolza-

no swims on wine.

And sure enough, with its 510 hectares of vineyards, South

Tyrol’s capital produces around one tenth of the whole province’s wine, making it the second-biggest wine-producing municipality in South Tyrol. The town itself has al-

most 30 wineries, large and small, producing Lagrein and St. Magdalener, as well as other wines.

The Cantina di Bolzano winery has 200 members and

produces around 3 million bottles a year on around 330

hectares. Around 35% of the production are white wines. Also the municipality of Bolzano is a member because the town has its own vineyards in the centre of town next

to the river Talfer, around romantic Schloss Maretsch, as well as on the hillsides near Schloss Runkelstein.

South Tyrol has always been a wine area, already the Romans knew how to harness the mild climate for the

cultivation of grapes. Since the 1990’s South Tyrol’s wine-

ries have become internationally-renowned for producing

South Tyrol’s wines win top awards year after year, such

as those of Italy’s renowned Gambero Rosso wine-guide; Bolzano’s Lagrein has even featured in a supplement of the New York Times.

The town also knows how to promote its wines, with three events dedicated exclusively to the cult of Bac-

chus: the Bacchus Urbanus programme which takes place every Saturday in April, May, June, September

and October allows interested visitors to take part in guided visits to Bolzano’s wine-growing area, together

with a visit to a winery and a wine-tasting session. The 10th August is the Lorenzi Nacht event, from 6 pm till midnight, when Bolzano’s medieval Lauben street

is transformed into an open-air wine and gourmet mile, with all Bolzano’s wineries presenting their different

I lavori per la riqualificazione ambientale dell’asta del torrente con l’eliminazione delle zone pericolose sono durati diversi mesi. Ed ecco il Talvera non solo bello da vedere, ma anche da provare.

A proposito di pericolo: il Talvera è stato per molti anni

una minaccia concreta per la città. Tante volte nel passato, d approfittarne poi non solo gli sportivi

ma anche i pesci che ora trovano un habitat più consono alle loro esigenze ecologiche. Il deflusso minimo delle acque sembra essersi stabilito attorno a 15–18

Oggi i muraglioni sono la base delle due passeggiate a

sinistra e a destra del Talvera e offrono panchine, aiuo-

le, ciclabili, impianti sportivi, il parco skate e dei parchi giochi. Un vero paradiso in mezzo alla città per chi ama passeggiare, fare sport, prendere il sole o semplicemente contemplare i bei dintorni o leggere seduto su una panchina. Con il percorso per i kayak, da quest’anno ci sarà un’attrazione in più!

fer. This is a novelty in Bolzano. Until recently the river wasn’t navigable – it was simply too dange-

rous. But recent measures to renaturate the Talfer have eliminated the dangerous bits, thereby including it in the

Talking of danger: the Talfer was a menace to the town

for hundreds of years, responsible for many severe floods. The first protective walls to the right and to the left were built in the 13th/14th centuries. Over the subsequent centuries these were extended, becoming today’s promena-

des, lined with ancient trees, with numerous benches and flower-beds. But lasting protection was only afforded by the construction of weirs further upstream, in the Sarntal valley. In the 1970’s this enabled the creation of a recreation park on either side of what had been a very wide river

bed. Here you can find lawns for sunbathing, children’s

playgrounds, facilities for various types of ball games, an exercise trail, cycle lanes and a skatepark. All these facilities are free and are much appreciated by locals and visi-

tors alike. With the addition of canoeing, the Talfer now has an added attraction.

Martin Kaufmann: Abbiamo fatto vedere film con registi e attori che all’epoca erano garanzia di una certa quali-

BM: ERA TUTT’ALTRO CHE FACILE PROCURARSI I FILM...

Martin Kaufmann: In effetti, per procurarci le pellicole dovevamo andare fino in Germania. Oggi grazie alla tecnica

digitale è cambiato tutto. Fino a qualche anno fa poteva-

mo avere a Bolzano le pellicole solo a distanza di sei o otto

settimane dall’uscita dei film in Austria e Germania, oggi invece grazie al digitale usciamo tutti lo stesso giorno.

BM: ED ECCOCI AL FILMFESTIVAL. LA PRIMA EDIZIONE È NEL 1987.

Martin Kaufmann: Sin dall’inizio siamo stati considerati

degli eccentrici, anche un po’ stravaganti. La gente veniva da Monaco di Baviera per vedere i nostri film e per passare qualche giorno di ferie in Alto Adige. Insomma, abbinavano le due cose.

BM: UNA CIRCOSTANZA CHE AVETE SAPUTO UTILIZZARE E INTEGRARE NEL PROGRAMMA DEL FESTIVAL.

Martin Kaufmann: Esatto. Ogni anno il nostro programma

offre agli ospiti del festival - la giuria, gli ospiti d’onore, gli attori e i registi – una gita. Può essere un’escursione sulle

passeggiate di Sant’Osvaldo fino all’Hanny oppure la visita di castel Juval o magari la visita ad una cantina nell’Oltradige. Una proposta molto apprezzata!

BM: CERTO, AVETE UNA ROSA DI NOMI TUTT’ALTRO CHE BANALE…

Martin Kaufmann: Beh, in effetti, in tutta modestia, possia-

mo vantare tra i nostri ospiti personaggi che hanno fatto

Un ospite davvero speciale e vera star del Bolzano Film Festival Bozen sarà quest’anno il regista e attore Sergio Castellitto.

Bestehen und hat aus diesem Anlass auch den Namen geändert in Bolzano Film Festival Bozen. Der Mann hinter diesem Festival ist Martin Kaufmann, Begründer des Bozner Filmclubs. 50

Die Entdeckung des ersten Metalls – ein revolutionärer Schritt für die Menschheit - liegt über 10.000 Jahre

zurück. Jemand fand wohl zufällig einen relativ reinen Kupferbrocken und stellte fest, dass sich das unbekannte Material unter Schlägen formen ließ. Irgendwann muss es dann gelungen sein, Kupfererz bei 1.000 Grad Celsius zu

schmelzen und in eine gewünschte Form zu bringen. Der Siegeszug des Schwermetalls Kupfer konnte beginnen!

Der bekannteste Mensch aus der Kupferzeit ist Ötzi, die

Nacht. Eine große Feuerschale. Wild-romantische Stimmung. Und ein Storyteller namens Reinhold Messner vor der grandiosen Kulisse von Schloss Sigmundskron, das erste von mittlerweile sechs MMM Messner Mountain Museum, das im Südwesten von Bozen erhaben auf einem Bergrücken thront.

BM: UND DIE FRAGEN KOMMEN? KEINE SCHEU?

Reinhold Messner: Na ja, vielleicht etwas schleppend am Anfang, aber nach den ersten

zwei Fragen entwickelt das eine Eigendynamik. Vor allem die Kinder sind da ganz frei.

BM: SIE HABEN DEN ORT WECHSELN MÜSSEN…

Reinhold Messner: Die ersten Gespräche haben wir

Reinhold Messner: Es handelt sich um Kommunikation der primären Art. Direkt, spontan. Die einfachste Art der

Kommunikation. Ich sehe mich da ganz in der Tradition des Minnesängers, des Cantastorie, des Storytellings. BM: DER ABLAUF IST IMMER DERSELBE?

Reinhold Messner: Ich erzähle frei etwa 45 Minuten und

Reinhold Messner: I speak spontaneously for about 45 minutes and then the audience can ask me questions, openended. It usually goes on till midnight. A warm, intimate atmosphere. Completely informal and candid.
