It is noted in he Bahamas that, “Once is not enough, even twice you won't see all of the stuff…” Therefore, it is my esteemed privilege, as President of The Bahamas Pharmaceutical Association, to welcome the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists executive team, delegates and sponsors back to beautiful Nassau, Bahamas, for its 41st annual convening of Pharmacists. The theme, “Pharmacy Practice: Exploring New Horizons in a Changing World.” is a timely theme; ever more profound given the current climate that we all have weathered in the COVID-19 Pandemic. As healthcare professionals, we are battling this deadly virus to protect ourselves, safeguard our families and tend to the sick.

Exploring New Horizons in a Changing World suggests that our goal is to pioneer new pathways to open new horizons in pharmacy practices in this already-changed world. Like many of my fellow colleagues, I too have had to shift my old way of thinking & rise to the occasion to continue providing essential services to our community while ensuring that those that I serve are engaged in the new virtual modes of pharmaceutical learning, in order to keep abreast of the ever-changing COVID-19 treatment guidelines. BPA has maintained our commitment to supporting and assisting the Government of the Bahamas from the inception of the vaccination campaign to eradicate COVID19 within the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, one jab at a time.

We have had to implement new ways of thinking, initiate new modes of operation, apply new technological practices & even explore numerous avenues of cyber & mobile operation in order to carry out a job that was once for many so streamlined & well-orchestrated. Though difficult at times, we rallied through after being tried & tested as a result, it is my belief that we are all better pharmacists, technicians & better individuals because of it.

It is my sincere hope that the progress we have made in the pharmaceutical field will continue to gain momentum as we strive to move “Forward, Upward, Onward, Together” as is the motto of this great nation that I call home. Allowing us to go further, dig deeper, rise higher & boldly go where the pharmacy field has never been before.

I thank each of you represented here today for your continued commitment to ensuring the safety, heath & wellbeing of those we serve even in such difficult times for pharmacy workers & healthcare professionals. Enjoy this week’s activities as we impart some of what we have learned to revolutionize our community lives.

Once again welcome to the beautiful islands of The Bahamas

Yours Faithfully,

Shantia K. Hield-McBride
