JANUARY / MARCH 2019 VOL. 28, NO. 1

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

S

easons Greetings everyone. As 2018 draws to a close, I have been reflecting on some of the highlights from this past year and am feeling a sense of gratitude for the successes we have experienced this year.

The VPAG has a strong board of directors and staff members that I have the pleasure of working with each day. Their commitment to our vision and the pride they take in ensuring our community has quality programming is evident in all that they do. Adding to our team is a group of dedicated volunteers, many who are long-term gallery supporters. Now seems an appropriate time to acknowledge and thank them all for their commitment the VPAG. I am also grateful for our community supporters, donors, sponsors and members. Due to your support, the VPAG had a financially stable year in 2018 with Midsummer’s Eve raising a significant amount towards our fundraising goal. People of all ages are able to explore and learn through their interaction with the exhibitions and programming that are made possible through this community support. The pinnacle for me in 2018 was definitely the success of the referendum. Finally having the opportunity to ask the citizens of the North Okanagan if they support moving ahead with a new cultural facility that will provide the VPAG with a new home along with the museum and space for other cultural groups to access. It has been a long journey for the VPAG, dating back to 1986 when it first received money for a new facility, but all of these years later we can finally now look forward to this project becoming a reality for our community. To all of you, who saw the vision and voted YES at the referendum, thank you! You are leaving a legacy for future generations to enjoy. From all of us at the VPAG, Happy Holidays and see you in the New Year. Sincerely,

Dauna Kennedy Executive Director The Vernon Public Art Gallery
