EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S FOREWORD

Lisa Matthias, an Edmonton based artist with degrees in Botany, Biological Sciences and Visual Arts brings a scientific view to her exhibition Field Marks. Utilizing the simple process of woodcut prints, Matthias’s work is both intricate and large in scale providing the viewer with a glimpse into ecological subject matter while challenging the scale of working within the medium of woodcut printmaking.

I’d like to thank our guest writer Agnieszka Matejko for her insights on this exhibition. Matejko, a regular contributor to Galleries West is also a community-based artist whose work includes Word on the Street, a poetic public art project with inner-city youth based in Edmonton’s McCauley district.

I’d like to acknowledge Lubos Culen, Curator for the Vernon Public Art Gallery, for his passion in bringing thought provoking exhibitions to the residents and visitors of the North Okanagan.

Funders such as the Province of BC, BC Arts Council and the Regional District of the North Okanagan are critical to the work we do and ensure the VPAG is able to pursue its mandate for the people of the North Okanagan. Our donors, members and sponsors also contribute to the success of our programming and we are grateful for their support.

See you at the gallery,

Dauna Kennedy Executive Director Vernon Public Art Gallery
