E
very year, people flock to Washington DC to tour the city, enjoy the Cherry Blossoms and embrace the history that lives there. With a variety of events and sights to see, there is never a shortage of things to do. Locals and tourists alike enjoy DC year after year, yet many have never experienced the magic of DC from the water.
Rod Patterson has cultivated a love of spending days on the water since he was a child. “As a youngster I grew up around the water. My dad was an avid fisherman and I always wanted to go. When I reached the age of 17, he saw that I had a lot of interest in boating so he wanted to teach me more. I went out on a boat by myself and I had to follow a map to successfully [reach the destination]. He just kept throwing more [challenges] at me and I started boating from there,” Rod tells us, “As I got older, I bought my own boat, around 30 years ago. I took a hobby and I turned it into an opportunity. I work for the biggest transit agency in the DMV area. I am getting ready to retire from my regular job in a few years. I thought this was perfect. I was a legal captain running up and down the Eastern seaboard from Miami to Maine. I started

People felt very safe to see that we had all of these rules and regulations in place.” VIP Yacht Charters USA’s mission is for clients to have the experience of being treated VIP-style, first and foremost. “You are not just getting a boat ride. You are getting a luxury yacht. We do sunset, four hour and three hour tours. We do offer 2 hours during the week occasionally. We travel the scenic routes of Washington D.C. to see all of the history, artifacts, and notable sights including the Navy Merchant Marine Memorial, Buzzard’s Point, and the Southwest Waterfront. Most people when they are out on the water, they are lost. People know about the DC monument, but DC from the water looks totally different. It is a whole different perspective. Many people come back often,” Rod says. There are many different ways to celebrate special events and VIP Yacht Charters USA offers the best experience and service. “It is private. You are doing what you want to do, with people that you want to be around. We have done many bachelor & bachelorette parties already this year. We do anniversaries, graduations, any celebration that you can think of we can do. You can choose your own theme. We take 10 people out of your choice. We have a host that comes to greet you. She takes you down to the yacht as a group. There is a small safety briefing at the beginning and then the charter starts. Each charter comes
with a Captain that is familiar with all of the waters and has a current license with a consortium card. The host comes along as well. The hosts are licensed bar tenders that treat you like the VIPs that you are,” Rod tells us, “Coming soon, we are going to be offering a catering service for those who don’t want to bring food. We provide utensils, water, ice and the set-up. Currently people can bring food and beverages that they prefer. They can bring alcohol and we serve it to you. We want to treat you with the full-service, royal treatment. This is true luxury service.” The reason that VIP Yacht Charters USA stands out from other charters or boat services is because they are a full-service, luxury cruise experience. They have a private Captain and experienced host that serves you and makes sure that all of your needs are met during your event. Many other similar charters are self-service only. Rod says, “We are professional, we are in uniform, we are A1. We get a lot of compliments on how neat and clean we are along with the exceptional, customer service. For our corporate charters you can choose a package with a food tray and champagne, the service comes with the captain, and the host. There are different sorts of platters depending on the different packages you choose. You can customize the corporate charters to your needs. This type of service is generally reserved for 70-foot yachts, we are 45foot, but everything looks brand new and has all been freshly renovated. Everything is exquisite and top of the line.”

Why have you chosen to focus on the healing art of dance during this season of life?
shed tears, they feel alive again and most importantly, seeing them loosen up, being more free, more light-hearted and filled with much creative joy.
Dancing has been a part of my life since childhood. It has always been a way for me to express my emotions, my sense of self without much talking needed, my creative energy, my fashion expression, and most importantly, it makes me feel feminine, free, fit and happy. Talk therapy has never worked for me when it comes to my problems and issues. I usually go within, and to prayers and meditation to seek answers. Dancing is one form of spiritual healing that I apply often and almost daily in my life to clean my aura and clear my mind of unwanted energy and darkness. Currently, dancing is a main part of my daily spiritual practice. It is my most therapeutic and most awakening form of Therapy for my Divine Feminine energy. Not only that, dancing keeps my inner child happy and playful while helping me to stay healthy and fit. Dancing does not require much. You can dance anywhere and anytime. When I am teaching dance, I style my students according to their Chakra needs, I channel into their energy, teach them posture and breath work, and guide them through their hearts to allow the music to be felt rather than to be heard. I love seeing my students release and let go. Their energy becomes more powerful, they 16

What do you hope that your clients come away with after dancing with you? Dancing awakens your Sacral Chakra, the second Chakra which is associated with sexuality, Sensuality and Creativity. It is your life force. Have you ever encountered someone who was naturally friendly, open-hearted, fun, free, and loving, and so wonderful to be around? Most likely, their Sacral Chakra is balanced and awakened and they radiate rays of light when you are around them. That energy is contagious. As for my clients, I like seeing the men become more powerful and take charge, more confident, more action-oriented, and more masculine after dancing with me, and for the women, I love seeing them become more fun and free, more sensual and vulnerable, and more fearlessly feminine.

Delicious Summer Dishes Article By Lauryn Forbes Move aside, simple hot dogs and hamburgers - this year, we make way for summer meals that will keep you on your toes. To begin, with only 20 minutes of prep time, whipping up a Surf n’ Turf on the grill will make you the star of your next cookout. There’s a reason why it’s a summer classic. This classic and simple yet delicious recipe from Rachael Ray gives you the best of both worlds: bold and savory steak cooked to perfection with light and fresh shrimp. All you need is a grill and a half an hour to make something shake!
Ingredients
Preparation Preheat an outdoor grill or a grill pan to medium-high. Soak four 8-inch wooden skewers in water and set aside. Season the steaks lightly with salt and pepper. Top each steak with a sage leaf and a slice of pancetta. Using kitchen twine, tie up each steak like a package and transfer to the grill. Cover with the grill lid or loosely with foil and grill for 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or 6 minutes on each side for medium. Cut off the string and let the steaks rest.
4 1 1/2-inch-thick beef tenderloin steaks Salt and freshly ground pepper 4 sage leaves 4 slices pancetta 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) 3 cloves garlic, smashed and grated Flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped (a generous handful) Grated peel of 1 lemon
While the steaks cook, in a bowl, mix the EVOO, garlic, parsley, lemon peel and crushed red pepper. Coat the shrimp with the oil mixture. On a soaked skewer, thread 1 shrimp through its tail end, then 1 cherry tomato and then the

shrimp through its head end so that the cherry tomato nests in the curve of each shrimp; repeat with another shrimp and tomato on the same skewer. Prepare 3 more skewers with the remaining shrimp and tomatoes. Grill the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until pink and opaque. (Alternatively, broil the shrimp skewers 6 inches from the heat, turning once.) Serve the steaks pancetta-side up with the shrimp skewers alongside.
With all of this meat, it only makes sense to complement it with something fresh and (semi) healthy. Instead of a simple grilled corn and potato salad, to go along with the Surf N’ Turf, we recommend a grilled pineapple salsa to keep the summer theme. With the main dish being so savory, something sweet makes the perfect accompaniment.

This recipe from Delish perfectly captures the summer vibe without being too heavy or too complicated. Use it as a dip or simply as a side!
Preheat grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
1 fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, and chopped into 1” pieces
Brush pineapple with olive oil and grill until charred on both sides. Set aside to cool, then chop into bite-sized pieces.

In a medium bowl, mix pineapple, peaches, jalapeños, onions and lime juice. Season with salt and garnish with cilantro.

To complete this summer meal, the next recommended side is a classic baked mac and cheese. No longer is this comfort food dish only reserved for holidays, but can even be considered a main dish by some. What makes it even better is the fact that it is good for all ages (and even picky eaters). It’s easy to make, and a guaranteed fan-favorite at your next potluck or barbecue. This recipe, also from Delish, promises to stay true to its Southern roots.

1 lb. macaroni 1 stick butter, melted (plus more butter for baking dish) 4 cups extra-sharp cheddar cheese, divided 2 cups Colby jack-cheddar blend
Preheat oven to 350° and butter a large, deep baking dish. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook macaroni according to package instructions until just al dente. Drain and set aside. In a large bowl, combine cooked pasta and butter and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in 2 cups cheddar cheese.
3 large eggs 2 cups whole milk Salt and pepper, to taste
Add half of the macaroni mixture to prepared baking dish. Sprinkle Colby-cheddar cheese blend over pasta mixture, then top with another layer of pasta (similar to making a lasagna).
Homemade Macaroni & Cheese
In a medium bowl, beat together eggs and milk then pour evenly over pasta. Cover baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 to 35 minutes. Do not overbake! It may be a bit jiggly when you take it out of the oven. Turn on oven broiler. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese. (I add a little more Colby jack as well) and broil until golden! It will firm up as it cool.

Coming up on Sunday, June 20, 2021, people all over the United States will be celebrating the love and sacrifices of their fathers. Many will give cards, some will give gifts, but a steady trend is emerging yet again: the gift of an experience. While material gifts are a classic way to show appreciation, there is something about giving someone a treasured memory that draws people to this phenomenon. According to a survey conducted by Eventbrite, in 2019 63% of adults in the U.S. would “prefer to receive an experience gift than a material gift”, and for many dads, quality time is something that they seek. Whether your father is an outdoorsman or a homebody, there are experiential gifts for any and everyone. 27

For Outdoorsy Dads If your dad enjoys being one with nature, consider gifting him an outdoorsy experience that he will remember forever. Consider finding a guided hiking or sightseeing trip, or even just a familiar trail in the local area. If you have any lakes nearby, it may be worth it to make it a fishing trip. If you’re lucky, you may be able to catch something to eat! Lastly, if you want to go the extra mile, see if there is a place to set up camp nearby. These bonding experiences will mean more to him than any material object.
For Golfing Dads If your father enjoys a good game of golf, instead of just getting him some golf balls, consider gifting him a game. D.C. has some historic golf courses in the area, such as East Potomac Golf Course, Langston Golf Course, and Rock Creek Golf Course. If you want to plan more of a getaway, consider booking both a tee time and a room at a golf resort in the area such as Landsdowne Resort in Northern Virginia. If you want to make it fun, some ideas are to turn it into a family competition, and to have a picnic as well.

Three PG County Officials Honored In Maryland’s Top 100 Women Three PG County government leaders made The Daily Record’s 2021 list of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Del. Joseline Peña-Melnyk, and Associate Judge DaNeeka Varner Cotton were honored by the outlet along with 97 other women who have made significant strides in their careers, the community, and mentorship. A Maryland Native, Alsobrooks is Prince George’s county’s top law enforcement official, and as committed her career to supporting the needs of her community. This is the third time that she has earned this award. As a member of the Maryland House of Delegates since 2007, Peña-Melnyk has a self-proclaimed passion for public service and feels an obligation to fight for those often overlooked. This is her third time receiving this award as well. Cotton currently serves on the state of Maryland’s bench as well as an associate judge for the Prince George’s County Circuit Court. Her and her sister recently made history as the first pair of sisters to serve on the state of Maryland’s bench. This is her first time receiving this award. Starting in 1996, the multimedia news source has honored more than 1,500 different women, with some even winning multiple times. In order to be considered for the list, one must submit an application as well as an optional letter of recommendation.

Bowie Mayor Announces Bid for MD Comptroller Tim Adams, who has been the mayor of Bowie since his term began in November of 2019, has announced his bid to be Maryland’s state comptroller. This main role of this position is to handle the state’s finances. Responsibilities include collecting taxes and determining the state’s budget. According to his campaign website, his main issues of focus are fiscal accountability, economic justice, and social change. According to the City of Bowie’s website, Adams “is is an accomplished community leader with more than 30 years of experience in business, government and philanthropy”. The announcement comes after three months of weighing the idea with an exploratory committee. According to the Baltimore Sun, When he began his current term, he became the first African American elected mayor in Bowie’s 138-year history. Similarly, if elected as state comptroller he is set to make history again as the African American to hold the position. Mayor Adams’ term is set to end 2023, and the election is in November of 2022, he would be forced to give up his position early if he wins.
