This planning time is crucial – you tell me what you want to achieve from our time together and I get to know you and what you like – now I can create amazing images that are unique to you. A $100 deposit is required to book and confirm your session time. We will happily reschedule your session, with a minimum 48-hour advance notification time prior to session. If less than 48hours before session time, your deposit is forfeited. The remaining balance is due and payable at time of your session.

S e s s i o n s – To provide the best possible service, sessions strictly begin and end at their scheduled time. I generally have sessions back to back and can not guarantee that extra time will be available. I do not do nude or full-body ‘high’ glamour work with models under 18. NO exceptions. Proof of legal age must be provided before any glamour or nude session. Chaperones are encouraged and welcome during any session, we only ask that the chaperone be respectful and quiet during the session. Everyone is required to have a signed model release on file, which must be signed prior to your session, again no exceptions. Minors require a parent or guardian signature. Our studio model release can be viewed and downloaded by clicking here.

10 Tips For Clothing Selection You know, one of the questions I always get during a consultation is “What Should I Wear?” Well, we rely on you to provide your own clothing, shoes and accessories that best are suited to your personality and style. However, to assist with this task, I have provided general guidelines below that should provide a bit of help. If you have planned your shoot properly - you started with ideas and then selected outfits to match the ideas. Remember - your modeling portfolio is selling you and your ability to portray different characters or showcase the designers’ style. The outfits that you select are a costume and should not become the focus of the picture. 1. Solid Colors Work Best. (Except

Your portfolio is designed to sell you - not the clothing, definitely not jewelry, and definitely not the makeup or photographers creativity. One final suggestion . . . If you find yourself with a great idea, but you don't own the outfit that you need, avoid running out to the mall and spending money on an outfit that you may never wear again. • Beg, Borrow and Steal. Check with friends and relatives - you may be able to borrow the outfit that you need. • Use a credit card. Be sure to check on the stores return policy. Return the item after your shoot. (Don't tell anyone that I gave you this idea.) • If you absolutely have to purchase something that you will only need for the shoot - go to Wal-Mart or Target!)

How To Prepare For A Shoot Practice - Practice - Practice! Don’t be a one-trick pony. The human face has over 50+ muscles and everyone is capable of many expressions. Even top models spend time in front of the mirror - practicing expressions and poses. It is important to know how your face feels when you smile, or laugh, or frown, or pout. It is important to know how your body feels when it is posed in an attractive manner. Practice facial expressions in front of the mirror - learn how your face feels with a perfect smile - no gums, eyes open - not squinting. Pay attention to your eyes. This is a well known secret for actors and the most experienced tops models know it too. Remember, it’s all in the eyes! You can think of a particular emotion (happy, sad, stunned, surprised, etc.) and act out each emotion in front of the mirror. Practice your poses in front of a mirror - while naked. Yes - it says "naked". With clothes on you have pockets, collars, etc. to "hang on" to. Without clothes you have to learn how to place your hands and make them look attractive. Look through current magazines like ‘Womens Wear Daily’, Vogue, or Harper’s Bazaar for posing ideas. Sign up to receive free catalogs from companies like Victoria’s Secret, Alloy, Boston Proper, J.Crew or Newport News. Their catalogs are the ultimate models posing guide! Study them and mimic the models poses and the way they pose in a swimsuit, lingerie, casual clothing and formal outfits and again pay attention to hand positions. I will also suggest and guide you to pose and sometimes it may feel weird or odd, however as a photographer I am looking through the lens making sure that you look amazing and yes, it may ‘feel weird’ but that pose I have directed you Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!

Select your outfits and write a detailed list of the styles and colors that you are thinking about and be prepared to discuss each setup. Add specific shoes and accessories to your list. Do NOT bring jewelry unless requested by the photographer or by the client. Portfolio images are about YOU - you are the product - don't water down the image with jewelry. Props! - Think of props that you can bring to match your outfits. Props make a photo more believable and also give you something else to do with your hands.

FAQ’s Q: Is hair and makeup included? No. I have makeup artists and hair stylists that I have worked with before and I strongly recommend hiring one. Having a makeup/hair artist on set during your session can mean the difference between so-so images and a amazingly awesome images! Q. Should I tan for my photo shoot? A little color is fine. If you are spray tanning or booth tanning, remember less is more and go at least a week prior to your session and please no tan lines. Tan lines are UNATTRACTIVE and require additional retouching dollars. It is best if you avoid tanning altogether for the overall health of your skin and to help fight aging. Remember, the career span of a model isn’t that long, so don’t contribute to it any faster with unnecessary risks like tanning. Q: Do you sell the rights and or digital files? Yes, unlike some studios I do sell digital files. Copyright and ownership always remains in the name of Chezaray Photography based on copyright law, however when you purchase a high resolution images I also give you the right to reproduce those images for self-promotion. Q: How far in advance do I need to book my session? I recommend at least 7 - 14 days, possibly more depending on the time of year. schedule changes and fills quickly, so advance booking is always recommended. If you have a particular date or timeline you need to book with me as far in advance as possible.
What Is A Comp Card? A composite card (sometimes called a ZED) is a model's business card. In most cases, your comp card is your one and only opportunity to get you noticed and to make a good first impression. Many agencies will not even meet with you until you have your comp card done - because that is the tool that they use to market you. Agencies often put comp cards in their display rack to make it easy for a client to quickly scan their talent pool. Agencies also send comp cards to art directors and photographers to keep on file to show off new talent or to show updated looks for an established model, when they need to hire a model for a future project. With that in mind it is important that the images on your comp card are your absolute best and nothing less. Additionally, the printing and reproduction quality is extremely important. Poor reproduction makes your images look bad and as a result - makes you Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!
look bad. Most printers will provide physical samples of their cards if you ask. Review them to be sure that they have good color and that the printing is properly centered and the cards are not cut crooked (All of these are common issues I have found with cheaper printers). Also be sure that the cards are printed on a solid card stock so that they are not flimsy and do not fold or crease easily.
Comp Card Design 5 Secrets To Getting Great Comp Cards That's correct - you only get 5 shots to make a good first impression and if you don't hit the target with all 5 shots - you will severely limit your chances of being accepted by an agency. Your comp card must tell a story - not a short story – more like an abridged version of your portfolio. The card needs to show the obvious - that you are beautiful and in great shape. (If you are not - why are you in this business?) Your card also needs to show range. Range of age, expressions, emotions and characters, are important aspects to your comp card. Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!
I am constantly asked should a comp card have this picture or that picture and I have to answer with a big "It Depends" Every models story is different - so there is not set group of photos that should be on your card.
Here are some of the guidelines that I consider when recommending images for the front of a models comp card . . . • The photo that goes on the front of the card MUST make people say "WOW!" This image must be eye catching and engaging. Imagine if your comp card were tossed on a table with 20 other cards - Would it stand out? Would it grab an art director's attention? Does it make them want to turn it over to learn more? If you can't say yes to all of those questions - you have the wrong photo on the front of your card. • The back of the card needs to show variety - personality and needs to leave them wanting to meet you. • As a new model - you should produce an "Industry Standard" card (1 image on the front – and up to 4 images on the back with your body stats), don't get fancy. After you have gained some experience, built a resume and potentially gained a few tearsheets - then you might want to do a custom designed card. • I am often asked if Black and White images are okay. Of course they are! A good black and white image can have more impact than a color image. Just look in any fashion magazine and you will see there is a large amount of advertising that is produced in Black and White. • Once again, don't cheap out on printing. You get what you pay for. Make certain your card is printed on heavy card stock and be VERY fussy with your printer to be sure that you get good reproduction.

Do I Really Need A Portfolio? In the modeling industry, generally teenagers (Over age 13) and older do need portfolios. Children under the age of 13 rarely need portfolios. The types of pictures in your portfolio are determined by several criteria: • Your age and your age range: Your pictures need to show how old and young you realistically can look. Your age also determines appropriate characters for you to portray in your portfolio. For example, if you are a woman in your 40s, it wouldn't be appropriate to dress you as a college student for a picture. If you’re a teenager, it would be foolish to take a picture of yourself in a business suit. • Your height: Your height determines whether or not you will be a fashion model. In most markets, you need to be at least 5'8" (5'10 or taller in major markets like New York) to be considered for fashion work. If you are a petite, you do not want to include fashion images in your portfolio. • Types of work you are trying to get: What kind of work do you want to do? Do you want to do some fashion modeling? Glamour and lingerie modeling? You need to determine this before you shoot a portfolio. If you are horrified at the idea of being a glamour model, it probably isn't a good idea to include a bunch of lingerie or swimsuit pictures in your book. If you are open to doing a wide range of work, your book should reflect this.
Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!
• The market that you will be working in: Before you put together a portfolio; you need to consider your market's needs and the advertising that goes on in your market. For example, in Las Vegas, where many variety shows and productions are running, it is more important to have a picture of yourself in a swimsuit than it is to have a picture of yourself as a nurse or doctor. Regardless of your situation, your portfolio needs to do more than just make you look amazing. It is important to have a good selection of pictures that make you look absolutely terrific and sell your personality and ability to do the type of modeling that you are trying to get work from. You need to be extremely critical of your images. Use only the best. You won't get more work for having lots of pictures in your portfolio. Remember - "LESS IS BETTER"
Make sure your pictures say "WOW!"
What Makes A Great Modeling Portfolio? There are a few EXTREMELY important concepts to remember:
Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!
• Remember that this is truly a "first impression" business. You know the quote "You only get one chance to make a good first impression." - There is no business where that is more true than modeling. Every agency or client that you contact your photos, comp card or modeling portfolio will always go in the door before you. • A strong portfolio opens doors, a weak portfolio closes them. Your portfolio is often the only thing a person sees before deciding whether or not to contact you. There are fundamental qualities that all outstanding portfolios share, and a variety of principals and techniques that can help take your portfolio from average to excellent. If at all possible, your portfolio should be appropriate to the situation and reviewer, and all portfolios should show creativity, skills, range, thought, and ambition. It is the overall combination of these, plus that "special something," that makes one designer stand above the others. • Aim for quality not quantity! Set your standards HIGH! You MUST use a very critical eye when selecting any images to put in your modeling portfolio. Make sure that the pictures that you show have the ability to WOW agencies and potential clients. A basic but versatile portfolio would have a casual head shot, styled head shot, body image (conservative swimsuit or lingerie), a fashion photo (sexy), action shot, an editorial shot and even a catalogue photo. You are only as good as your worst image - and believe me - photographers, agencies and art directors WILL remember the worst image.
Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!
It is my contention that there are 4 kinds of pictures that you will potentially wind up with. Really Bad, Good, Great and ‘WOW’ images. Keep your best photographs at the end to leave a lasting impression!
Questions And Answers To Help Build A GREAT Portfolio... How large should the photos be? 8x10, 8.5x11, 9x12, 11x14? The correct answer does tend to be somewhat market specific. In New York, 9x12 and 11x14 books are popular and often required. In Miami, snapshot sized "mini-books" are a popular trend. In most metropolitan markets, like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, 8x10 and 8.5x11 books are the norm and more than adequate. I would recommend purchasing a book that holds 8.5x11 pages - after all - if you are hoping to do print work - your tearsheets are likely to be 8.5x11 - so you want them to fit in the book. How many photos do I need to have? Less is better! You will not impress with quantity - you will make a lasting impression with quality. If you think about it - I can take two good photos of you - a headshot and a full length shot - and show that you are beautiful and have a good, fit figure. So if this is the case - why all the stress about a portfolio?
Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!
The purpose of the modeling portfolio is not just simply to show that you are attractive - it is to show your ability to portray different characters, age ranges and importantly personality! As a new model - 6 - 12 pictures is adequate to present yourself to a new agency. 20 should be a maximum - but only if they are 20 "WOW" pictures. Good pictures don't make the grade. Avoid using 2 pictures with the same look. Place your WOW pictures on the right hand pages of your portfolio and the Great pictures on the left hand side. Do I need to shoot with more than one photographer to develop my portfolio? NO. Certainly if you have lots of money to spend - hire several photographers to help you develop your portfolio. You will not get more work because you have spent a ton of money to shoot with multiple photographers. You will get work with a selection of pictures that show you at your best, show your range of emotions and ability to portray various characters. Most of the models that you see featured on my web site carry portfolios with only my photos in them and they are working steadily. The key is a well thought out, well planned, well executed selection of pictures to best market you Should the pictures be in color? Is every advertisement in color? Of course not! Black and White is not only an artistic medium that can be effectively used to create and convey a mood, but it is also a medium that is still Che•za•ray Photography (702) 448-4998 Call For Your Free Consultation Today!
very much in use today - so don't be afraid to include a few great Black and White photos in your portfolio. Do I need to do photos in a swimsuit or lingerie? There is NO type of modeling or photograph that you HAVE to do to be a model. You do NOT have to model swimwear. You certainly do not have to model lingerie, and you do not have to model anything that is in conflict with your cultural or religious beliefs. Certainly, the more that you are willing and able to do, the more opportunities that you will make available to yourself, and there is no legitimate modeling agency that will ever tell you otherwise. So what’s the next step? Pick up the phone and start making calls, that’s what! I want to say thanks for reading this information and I hope I have helped you.
