ENTRANCE TEST FOR ARCHITECTURE PROGRAMME EXAMPLE Test duration is 4 hours, it consists of two tasks. 1. The task of Architectural Composition The aim of the task is to prepare presentation of proposed design of the architectural object and its environment. Single A3 sheet of paper should be used for presentation of the project. The project should include the plan, front and side views of the object as well as perspective view of the object rendered in natural environment. Additional views or details are allowed if necessary. The test should be executed in free hand technique using graphite pencil. EXAMPLE A road turn reveals great panoramic view ahead. Picturesque valley is seen bellow the steep slope. Travelers would be happy to stop to enjoy the view. That’s why the directorate of national park decided to plan a viewing site for tourists. It should contain the platform constructed above the rocky slope as well as small souvenir pavilion, sanitary rooms (access from outside). Perhaps some sort of roof should be considered as protection from rain and sun? What about benches for sitting, information stands, protective railing?
2. Free hand drawing task Free hand drawing task of proposed construction (two or three elements). A3 size paper sheet and graphite
pencil use only. EXAMPLE Proposed construction consists of three elements: rectangular parallelepiped, pyramid and a sphere. Parallelepiped size is 1m lenghX0,5 m width X0,2m height and is placed on the floor and turned 30 degrees from left to right. The pyramid and sphere are placed on the top of the parallelepiped. The pyramid is on the left and closer to the viewer comparing to the sphere which is slightly covered by pyramid. The pyramid is 0,3X0,3X0,3 m in size while sphere is 0,4 m diameter in size. The pyramid is turned 60 degrees from left to right. The objects are illuminated from the left top corner. The viewer is drawing the construction from 3m distance and from 1,6 m eye level height. All objects have same color.
