WELCOME TO VIA HANSEATICA Via Hanseatica is an international tourism route connecting Estonia, Latvia and Russia, highlighting the unique sights, history, culture, events and flavours of each country. The route is based on the historic Hansa trade corridor and includes the part from St. Petersburg to Riga through Tartu and has been extended towards Rakvere and Viljandi in Estonia as well as towards Vyborg and Pskov in Russia as Plus regions. History of the route illustrates the history of the Baltic Sea region, being simultaneously a trade route, a postal route, an area of cultural exchange between European nations, and finally a route of invasions and military clashes between German and Russian armies. There is a mixture of a number of cultures, offering unforgettable encounters with different people and cultural heritage on a single trip - several religions, variety of churches, changing architecture and history of manors, castles and fortresses. Nature in Via Hanseatica can be described as «wild beauty». Many nature reserves and parks offer breathtaking views as well as numerous activities. But even outside nature reserves and parks, you can feel being surrounded by nature and history. Many of these beautiful places have become well-known and immortal thanks to artworks by inspired poets, writers and painters. Take the Via Hanseatica on E77 on the route of Lübeck – Gdansk – Kaliningrad – Šiauliai – Jelgava – Riga and on E264 on the route of Riga – Valka – Valga – Tartu – Narva – St. Petersburg. Do not be afraid to turn off the main route and discover all the plus regions: Pskov and Vyborg in Russia and Rakvere and Viljandi in Estonia. Points of interest in Latvia, Estonia and Russia are extensively marked with roadside signs.

CENTRAL CITY LIBRARY OF ALVAR AALTO

The State Museum-Reserve «Gatchina» covers the territory of the Gatchina estate with landscape parks and palaces created in the second half of the 18th century - under the first owner Count G.G. Orlov, and then under the heir to the throne Paul I. The main attractions of the complex are magnificent palacesmuseums: Big Gatchinsky and Priorytsky. Also, the museum exposition is presented in the Venus Pavilion and the Birch House (interior museums in the park), in the Signal Tower and in the Own Garden (the garden is available only in the warm season).

The Stationmaster’s House Museum is a literary and memorial museum in the village of Vyra, Gatchinsky District, Leningrad Region. MEREVO MANOR Leningrad Region, Luga District

Merevo manor, also known today as «Mishkina dacha», is an 18th-century estate belonging to the family of an ordinary landowner. The manor house was restored according to the archival drawings, the manor park and the beautiful lake with an old pier have remained in their original state. On the territory of the estate, there is an elm tree, listed as a natural monument, that dates back to the year 1772. Tours of the territory are conducted by the owner of the estate. It is a religious, historical and architectural centre of Pskov, incorporating the Krom, the Dovmont city, the Administrative Chamber of the 17th century, the fortress towers and the walls built between the 14th and 16th centuries. The Trinity Cathedral, a unique monument of ecclesiastical architecture of the 17th century and the main church of the area, is also located there. The height of the cathedral is 78 metres.

The Cīrulīši Nature Trails will introduce you to the evolution of the beautiful Gauja River valley from Ice age to nowadays! The area has three comfortable, easy accessible routes - 2,7 km, 3,5 km and 6,2 km long. During the walk, fascinating natural objects can be seen: the impressive Cīrulīšu cliffs also called Spoguļu (Mirror) Cliffs beautifully reflect in the water of the oxbow lake. Dzidravots (Clear spring) is place where to cool off (water is not for drinking). It is one of the most beautiful sandstone outcrops of the Devonian period, located on the banks of the Amata at the bend of the forest and meadow. The outlet is divided into two conventional parts - in the southeast, a cliff up to 44 m high bent in the form of a semicircle, and from the northwest Amata is washed by a 19-meter rock ledge. The total length of the cliff is about 200 m. A magnificent view opens both from the side of the river and from the top of the cliff, where the stairs lead.

The biggest white sandstone outcrop in the Baltics – 15 m high and 400 m wide. Having warmed up in the sun, the cliff stores heat, therefore bumblebees chose it as their abode, which created a unique pattern in the rock that resembles a sieve, from which the name of the cliff comes from («sieve», «strainer» in Latvian - siets, sietiņš; Sietiņiezis in literal translation «Strainer rock»). There is a wellestablished nature trail with several viewing platforms. Places for picnic are available, as well as information stands and a parking lot.

HEAVEN’S HALL Põlva County One of the most well-known and beautiful natural sights in the Plus region in Estonia are the sandstone outcrops on the right bank of the ancient valley of Ahja River. The creator of the Oru Park and the majestic palace located in the beautiful valley of the Pühajõe River is Grigory Eliseev, one of the richest merchants of Russia in the 19th century. In 1935, the palace and park were bought by three Estonian industrialists and donated to President Päts as a summer residence. The palace was completely destroyed during the Second World War. Now, in the wellgroomed park, equipped with many signs, you can walk, see various types of trees and bushes, the silver spring cave, and admire the sea view and sunset in the «Swallow’s Nest» gazebo. 17

Valaste Waterfall, located on the Ontika limestone cliff, is more than 30 m high, making it the highest waterfall in Estonia. The waterfall can be admired from the side as well, which offers a lovely view of the layers formed in 400,000 million years. The waterfall is most exciting in spring and during floods. Near the waterfall runs hiking and study trail and its total length is 1.5 km. 700 metres of the trail runs in a cliff forest and a scree with a boardwalk. In addition, there is about 55 metres of descent and just as many metres of ascent. There are 22 information boards on the trail introducing the Ontika limestone bluff and the surrounding area.

The reserve is located in the Kingisepp District, 45 km north-west of the city of Kingisepp. The coast of the Kurgalsky Peninsula with the adjacent shallow water zone is one of the most important migratory sites of waterfowl and near-water birds in the region on their way from wintering grounds in Western Europe and Africa to nesting areas in northern Eurasia. The objects of special protection in the reserve are gray seals and ringed seals included in the Red Book of Russia.

The architectural complex of the 16th - 18th centuries includes two buildings: the House of a Wealthy Citizen and Carriage House.
