A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR Tale of an American Idiot: Not long ago, back in the "Age of Paranoia," when all we had were "Television Dreams of Tomorrow" and "Tales of Another Broken Home," the "Jesus of Suburbia" led us away on "Holiday" down to the "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." We asked the "Favorite Son," "Are We The Waiting?" And so he took our sons and daughters away "Before The Lobotomy." We then asked "St. Jimmy" to "Give Me Novacaine" and he did. When we finally found the "Last of the American Girls (She’s a Rebel)" it felt awesome, like it was the "Last Night on Earth," but it was "Too Much Too Soon." "When It’s Time," you really gotta "Know Your Enemy," but "21 Guns" and a "Letterbomb" weren’t enough for us to fight back. Please, just "Wake Me Up When September Ends." We found out the hard way that "Nobody Likes You," not even "Rock and Roll Girlfriend" or "Whatsername." There’s nothing left out there for us, so "We’re Coming Home Again." "Good Riddance" and "We Hope You Had The Time Of Your Life"…

GREEN DAY Green Day members (vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool) were kids from working-class backgrounds who came of age in the underground punk scene in Berkeley. Even though they had previously released two records (1039/Smooth Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk), they announced their arrival with 1994’s Dookie, a dynamic blast of exuberant punk-pop that spoke to bored teenagers everywhere. The album eventually sold fifteen million copies, earned the band its first Grammy Award and inspired a raft of imitators. Over the years, Green Day continued to top the charts with their subsequent studio albums Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning, while entertaining millions of fans with their frenetic live shows. But it was their landmark 2004 album, American Idiot that launched Green Day into the stratosphere. “Jesus of Suburbia” set the tone by telling a tale of the choice between self-destruction and redemption that resonated with listeners of all ages, nationalities and political persuasions. American Idiot debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, spawned five hit singles, earned seven Grammy nominations (winning two, including Best Rock Album) and raised the bar for modern rock and roll. In 2009, Green Day released 21st Century Breakdown, which was nominated for three Grammy Awards and won Best Rock Album. It also spawned two hits: the gold “Know Your Enemy,” the first song ever to top Billboard’s Rock Alternative and Mainstream charts simultaneously, and the platinum “21 Guns,” which earned Green Day three 2009 MTV Video Music Awards including Best Rock Video. Green Day also took home an American Music Award for Favorite Alternative Rock Music Artist. greenday.com

For Anne and City Lights, it all began 26 years ago when she appeared in A Girl’s Guide to Chaos, followed by Mrs. California, Remembrance, Joined at the Head, Definitely Not a Christmas Carol, Nutcracker This! and Circles - all before taking time off to have her lively daughter, Sarah, in 2000. Upon her return, she appeared in the Spotlight Series presentation of Birth and, most recently, Dead Man Walking. In 2004 she added her spirited son, Jake, to the fold at home, and now relishes her time at City Lights as quality “adult time.” All images and/or content provided by City Lights Theater Company staff, contractors and/or creative artists unless otherwise credited.
