WELCOME BACK SUPPER

This year the Welcome Back Supper at ICE -Saturday 17th October -was very different from our usual events. It was the first in-house social event since we returned from lockdown. Although we only had 24 attendees and our tables were "socially distanced", we enjoyed an excellent three course roast dinner, with all the trimmings, cooked to perfection by Brenda and her helpers. Conversation was lively around the room as are meals were served at the tables. Ian Horwood running the bar for the entire evening and Stephanie stepped up to the mark, as usual, and sold raffle tickets to all, with the prize hamper being won by Freddie Thomas. Without live music and dancing, the evening ended a bit earlier than normal but appeared to be enjoyed by everyone. Thank you Brenda, Bob, Renee, Danny and Ian for all your hard work. Food superb, great bar service. Submitted by Sheila Fox

WALKING TREASURE HUNT

Well another successful treasure hunt (some may not agree), 24 couples, 48 people invaded part of Estepona old town. Many commented on the lovely walk, perhaps interrupted by a hunt for clues, in a part of Estepona some had never seen before. I would recommend that more time should be spent discovering these picturesque streets. Some clues many got, other clues may have been a bit obscure like the very last one before the finish, ‘hope this did not influence your answers”. Did no one see ‘Guess’ on the very last window of your walk? Probably desperate for that drink! So out of a possible 48 points the winners: 1st Sue Potter and Caroline 35, 2nd Doug and Joanna Mitchell 33, 3rd Bob Taylor and Danny Hackston 31. Congratulations to all who took part. Forget all the trauma how about having another go next October, hope to see you then. Submitted by Terry and Pat Smith

ICE GOLF AUTUMN CUP

The 2020 Autumn cup was finally played on Thursday the 8th of October at Valle Romano Golf. The original venue booked for the event and the following lunch was Estepona Golf, however, some of our golfers played the course several days before the planned event and found it to be in a very bad state. This was partly due to extensive damage by wild boar but also a lack of good maintenance in general. It was decided that it was unplayable for a golf competition. Valle Romano offered the best alternative deal and the best course locally, so the final choice was easy.

It was a very early start at 08-20 with 22 golfers teeing off from 3 different tees. The weatherwas perfect with warm sunshine and virtually no wind.No one could blame the weather for a bad result. All was fine with the golf until one of our golfers came along to inform us that he and his partner had managed to turn their buggy over on its side and his partner had retiredwith extensive cuts and bruises and gone home to get patched up. Fortunately the injuries were not too serious, considering how much worse the accident could have been. He was able to join us for lunch and after a few glasses of wine he felt no pain at all. Apart from that unfortunate incident we all agreed that it had been a good challenge on a demanding course. Using the new international handicap system for the first time for one of our cup competitions the results were as follows: Overall winner: Natalie Scanlon 1st Male: Joe Scanlon, !st Female: Jackie McMurtry 2nd Male: Finlay Buchanon, 2nd Female: Mariska Turkenburg. For the first time, the lunch was taken at the Venta Valle Romano. We were served a good 'Menu del Dia' 3 course lunch of really fresh tasting food by friendly waitresses. The meal completed a very successful day and I am sure we will use the restaurant again. Submitted by Peter Henry

I told my carpenter I didn't want carpeted steps and he gave me a blank stair.

What did the surgeon say to the patient who insisted on closing up his own incision? Suture self.
