EDITORIAL: It was commented to me: WHY so many adverts in our magazine? I am sure most members would be aware that these adverts pay for most of the expenses (not mine I might add) for this magazine and without adverts in some way members would have to pay for its production. I have also had comments of why not more interesting material in the magazine? WHY: This is the I.C.E. Club members’ magazine and I need more input from members, I do have regular contributors and I thank them. I cannot do this alone without more input from members!!!!! President’s Letter October 2014 We have a very busy month ahead with various events so there should be something that interests everybody but please remember that the activities and events rely on your support. I would like to thank our Gardening Group for keeping the Club garden tidy as first impressions count and we like to maintain a smart appearance. We are hoping to attract some new members at our open day on Sunday October 5th. The committee do their best to organise trips and events that could appeal to members but it’s difficult to keep coming up with something new so your input is valuable. It has been suggested that we carry out a survey to see what you would like the club to organise in the future but I feel that it’s easier for you to approach a committee member with your ideas and suggestions. Following the Club’s successful birthday party at Tikitano Restaurant last year, it will be the venue this year for the Club’s 26 th birthday celebration on Monday 3rd of November. I hope to see most of you there. Doug Should you have suggestions for any event or activity at your clubhouse, or for a trip whether for a day or longer period, please contact a member of the committee. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT DO YOU LIKE PREPARING DESERTS??? To assist the hard working catering teams our catering manager Brenda Taylor is seeking ladies or gents to make deserts of 12 portions at home or the club that can be then frozen or delivered on a Thursday morning. You will have your costs reimbursed. Please contact Brenda 952 805 739 / 654 579 492 YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU - MORE VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED Your club is run by volunteers, without them we cannot function. Help is required for the following: Bar staff, training will be given, see Mac McIntyre Bar Manager. Monthly Computer Tips – October 2014 Has your email account been hacked? If you want to check whether your account has been compromised in any of the high-profile attacks in recent years - including the strikes on Adobe, Sony and Tesco - enter your username or email address at https:// haveibeenpwned.com. Created by security software specialist Troy Hunt last year, this site checks all the published databases from a dozen or so major attacks and tells you if it finds your login details in any of them. Remember to enter both current and past email addresses, including business and personal, as well as any usernames you can recall. If your details have been stolen, make sure you change your password on that site - and any other site on which you may have used the same or similar passwords. Havelbeenpwned also lets you set up email alerts that warn you immediately if your email address has been stolen in any future raids. In case you're wondering, hackers use 'pwned' as a slang word for 'owned', as in to gain ownership of something - in this case your password. Haveibeenpwned.com is a reputable site, run by a trusted and well-known member of the security community, but exercise caution on copycat sites promising to reveal if your accounts have been hacked. If you do, you may find that the criminals needn't bother going to the lengths of breaking into a website to scoop up personal details - you've handed them yours on a plate! Try this App on your tablet - Touch Van Gogh Reveal the hidden details within three of Van Gogh’s most iconic paintings simply by tapping the different areas. You can also read about the artist, his letters, sketches and techniques. Remember the Computer Group meets at the Clubhouse on the third Friday of the month at 11.00am. Scam of the Month - Oct 2014 Pyramid selling Submitted by Peter Dowd These schemes invite you to sign up to a money-making club, typically through websites but also through friends' invitations. The premise is that you have to pay a small joining fee and then invite a specified number of other people to join in order to claim your reward. The reality is that only those at the top of the pyramid can expect lucrative rewards. Matrix schemes work in a similar way but offer a gadget gift instead. We fall for pyramid and matrix schemes in part because they come across as reasonable propositions. However, you should steer clear of these types of money-making schemes, especially the ones that ask you to sign up new members. The swindlers are relying on you failing to recruit enough members – and so far this has paid off, with the average victim of pyramid selling losing £930. 7

MEMORIES: When I heard that ‘Sunday Night At The London Palladium’ is returning to our screens, wonderful memories came flooding back. My first job in television was sending out tickets for this programme through the Ticket Office at ATV Studios. For those who remember it, it was the biggest variety show on television at that time running for 12 years and pulling in as many as 15 million viewers. Obviously most of the tickets were sent to the various Fan Clubs of whoever was appearing each week. Being able to have a ticket myself for each show, I was SO lucky to see the very best singers, dancers, comedians, musicians, groups, opera singers, ballet.........in fact anybody who was anybody at that time - Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Rudolf Nureyev, so many, the list is endless – all the cream of the world’s entertainers. Oh dear, I actually threw jelly babies at Ringo Starr from Lew’s box – ha! (Mrs Grade used to make 4-poster beds out of Lew’s cigar boxes to give children at Xmas). We had great presenters too – Tommy Trinder, Dickie Henderson, Norman Vaughan, Jimmy Tarbuck and not forgetting Brucie of course – with his ‘Beat The Clock’. Lew never had any trouble getting stars to appear, they were practically queuing up, especially the American artists as it was such a privilege to be on this show. As well as the Palladium show, ATV made numerous other light entertainment shows, serials etc. – ‘Ward 10’ comes to mind. John Alderton and Jill Brown had to wear yellow uniforms as did all the other doctors and nurses for it to appear white on TV screens. I stayed at ATV for 17 years, even married a TV Cameraman, but left when the franchise changed to Birmingham. I then joined TV-am breakfast TV becoming a News crew Assigner until like 233 other ACTT members I got locked out (another story). I worked in TV for 40 years mostly as a News crew Assigner covering lots of wonderful occasions but also world disasters for ITN, Channel 4 news and finally Sky TV, and though it was very stressful at times, I loved every moment. They say when you start saying ‘things were much better in them days’ you are showing your age but we seem to have so little variety now on TV other than singers (who seem to screech in pain more than sing) and comedians that are rarely funny. So I wonder if the new Sunday Night At The London Palladium’s can possibly be like the originals. We shall just have to wait and see. Sandy Avis PAST EVENT: Friday, the fifth of September, was a busy day: at the Club, the monthly quiz took place, Manilva commenced its annual Wine Festival, Inge Stov Nielsen with a display of her own thrown pottery gave a talk on the subject at what will always be known as Longman's Bookshop in Estepona, and the Parasol Singers founded and led by the indefatigable Marion Allen (she who has written and is directing the Christmas I.C.E. Dramatic offering "Ali Din") held a multi-talented charity event at the El Paraiso Gardens in Sabinillas. Out of loyalty to Madame, who had been singing her heart out weekly at Buenos Noches with a varying number of other choristers, it behove me to attend the last-mentioned occasion and that proved to be a most satisfying choice. Not only the choir there, but in co-operation with the Society of St. George local charitable institute, a wide and eclectic range of entertainers filled the evening with dance, music and song and all deserve mention. Everyone who appeared on the stage did so for the Charity, and, in order of performance were; the Parasol Singers, consisting of ten ladies and a sweet voiced male; Eva Cabrera, solo Classical and Expressionist Flamenco danseuse and teacher whose aerial movement was much enhanced by the light breeze; the Escuela de Danza, a bevy of serious but lively young ladies schooled by Cristina Seguin; the inevitable Ron Jones singing Frank Sinatra standards; Inaki Cadierno who mesmerised the audience with a selection of classic Spanish guitar pieces having closed his jewellery shop in Sabinillas early at 9:30pm. The finale saw the Singers on again, now confidently offering both Spanish and English renderings. Surprisingly, an enthusiastic audience quite filled the Greco-Roman amphitheatre, the multi-lingual crowd of over a hundred enjoying a very successful evening. Plaudits are due to Marion and the St. George Society for the enormous effort made to string the multifarious package together. As one of the onlookers - the easiest role! - I can only cry "encore, bis." Peter Thomas 8

PAST EVENTS THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL SUMMER. What a difference this year for us after last summer when we lost our lovely daughter Jain. In July I had my 80th Birthday Party in the Clubhouse and what a wonderful night it was. Jain´s husband and two daughters, Naomi and Jazmine, were there also my other daughter Judi with Zak and Lola, my other Grandchildren. Thank you for the 60 or so members who also came along and made them so welcome. The music was provided by Ron's ‘Cavern Sounds Disco’ which I think we all enjoyed, Brenda made me a lovely cake, Mac and Jackie ran the bar. The fantastic buffet was provided by members and guests and, what a spread! Kate read me a poem and 13 year old Jazmine sang so beautifully. Thanks to one and all. Then in August (21st) we celebrated our Diamond Wedding at Robbies Restaurant with a crowd of friends from the Club who had either missed the Birthday Party or had worked so hard to make it a success. It was a great night out. Thank you to you all for making each occasion memorable and thank you to the committee for the presentations made at the Club on both occasions. We are so proud to belong to such a great Club! Anne and Frank Hardwick Tuesday 9th September - GARDEN CLUB MEETING The Gardening Club held their meeting in the ICE Clubhouse which was a very interesting and beneficial meeting. Sandy brought along the Rose of Jericho, which none of the members had seen or heard of before, and surprised the members with its history and demonstration. Clara, who holds a Master Composter certificate, gave a very interesting in depth talk on organic compost and how we can build our own compost bin. She kindly produced a detailed document for each of us to keep and relate to giving lots of useful information. We were surprised to hear that amongst several materials not to use when composting is the oleander. This bush is poisonous and even when burning gives off toxic fumes which, if breathed in can be deadly. Before the meeting today, three of our Garden Club members spent a couple of hours de-weeding the ICE front flower bed. If any other members would like to help with the occasional weeding, it would be very much appreciated. A few gardening problems were raised and hopefully useful advice given. It was decided that the last Gardening Club meeting this year will be held in the ICE Clubhouse at 11.00am on Tuesday 14th October. New members always welcome. Tip of the month: Xmas will be here soon and lots of us may buy a poinsettia. So how do we regain its red leaves for next Xmas? The poinsettia needs to experience complete darkness for 14 hours a day for at least eight weeks for the leaves to turn red. You can give it a go in October but you need somewhere you can completely black out the light – or cover it with a box and black polythene. During the day bring the plant back into good daylight conditions. Submitted by Sandy Avis Wednesday 17th September - Ladies and Gents Who Lunch Out 22 Juliets: On this occasion made a return to a popular venue with many members; Restaurante Del La Mar Estepona Port, for a set varied menu. Thanks to Brenda for the organising in Maggie's absence, who then took ‘charge’ on her return. 21 Romeos: Also made a return visit to a past venue, Bar Las Ninas situated opposite the Bull Ring on the main road above Estepona Port. A menu del dia, large choice of 3 courses for just 8.50€, plenty to eat and good service. Thanks to Bob for the organising. 10

Spanish Tax Reforms By Terry Wayne, Partner, Blevins Franks Tax rises were implemented in Spain in the wake of the economic crisis. Income tax rates are up to 52% - 56% in Andalucía - and tax on savings income hits 27%. Wealth tax was reinstated. So it was good news when Spain's Expert Tax Committee issued a consultation document earlier this year proposing a number of tax reforms. The government then released its draft legislation in June, and approved three laws in August. Here the key changes affecting expatriates. However note that these still need to go through parliament and so may change from the below. Income and savings taxes The government says that the tax reform will help reduce the tax burden for some 20 million taxpayers, particularly those on low and medium incomes. The income tax bands will be reduced from seven to five, and the scale rates of tax reduced, first in 2015 and then in 2016. In 2016 the rates will range from 19% to 45%, compared to 24.75% to 52% today. But remember, these are the state rates and Andalucía’s tend to be higher. The rates on savings income will also fall in 2015 and 2016. Today they are 21%, 25% and 27%; in 2016 they will be 19%, 21% and 23%. The top rate of tax will apply to savings income over €50,000, whereas at present it applies to income over €24,000. The 60% deduction against net rental income for residents is not reduced to 50%, as was originally proposed. Capital gains tax From 2015, all capital gains, regardless of the holding period, will be taxed at the savings rates as above – currently assets held for less than a year are taxed at the scale rates of tax. Individuals aged over 65 will be exempt from capital gains tax, as long as they use the proceeds to buy a pension annuity. Indexation will no longer apply on the sale of a property from 1 st January 2015. Succession tax Although the Expert Tax Committee had originally proposed changes for succession tax, it has not been included in the tax reform and draft legislation (wealth tax is not mentioned either). It will be interesting to see what happens now with succession tax, since the European Court of Justice has ruled that Spain has failed to fulfil its obligations regarding succession and gift tax under. By allowing differences in the tax treatment between resident and non-resident beneficiaries, they have breached the EU treaties, particularly involving free movement of capital. Once finalised and approved, the tax reforms will apply from 1 st January 2015. It is always best to seek specialist and personalised advice on your tax planning in Spain, to ensure you make the most of the available opportunities to save tax, and that you get it right for you and your family. Tax rates, scope and reliefs may change. Any statements concerning taxation are based upon our understanding of current taxation laws and practices which are subject to change. Tax information has been summarised; an individual is advised to seek personalised advice. So We Decided To Get Away For A Few Days….. Once again we decided to get away from the coast and decided on a trip to the Extremadura National Park area staying in the town of Zafra, situated between Seville and the Portuguese border. We followed Bruce’s instructions on the SatNav and arrived safely. We knew Zafra was an old historic town so unsurprisingly Bruce took us down a long narrow cobbled street that then opened up to the Plaza Grande and there was our hotel for a few nights. We stayed in the hotel Los Balcones de Zafra www.hotellosbalconesdezafra.com or can be found on bookings.com We were greeted by the owner who explained the history of the building that has been in his family for a number of centuries, originally being a Roman villa. It stands in a central location of Zafra in the central square, ideal for taking a stroll through the historic streets around the castle. The hotel has been beautifully restored with a mix of grand interiors and modern comforts. Our room was quite large and comfortable with French doors onto a large terrace overlooking the Plaza. The hotel also houses two exclusive suites with private lounges furnished with antiques, separated by a beautiful seating area with a fireplace and a patio, arches and marble columns. Unfortunately we were not offered an upgrade!!!!!!! Zafra, also known as Little Seville, is right at the heart of Extremadura, on a plain at the foot of the steep rocky mountains of Sierra de Castellar. The city was consolidated thanks to its location on the strategic "Via de la Plata", or the Silver Route in Roman Hispania. The town is dominated by the 15thcentury Alcázar (fortress). From the outside, it has a military appearance, but the interior resembles a palace with the Renaissance cloister in the central courtyard. Nowadays, the Alcázar houses the local Parador de Turismo. The medieval quarter stretches around the fortress, in a network of narrow streets that form a peculiar pattern that resembles the shell of a turtle. A stone wall from the 15th century used to surround it completely; today, only three of the eight gates that it formerly had are still standing. Plaza Grande (Big Square), lined with arches, is at the heart of town. Its little sister, Plaza Chica (Small square) is connected to it through the popular "Arquillo del Pan" (the small arch of bread). Zafra's monumental heritage is very rich, with great buildings such as the sumptuous collegiate church of La Candelaria, erected in 1546, whose interior keeps three reredos, one of them by Zurbarán, and another one by Churriguera; the parish church of San José; several convents, most of which date from the 16th century; and the hospital of Santiago, founded in the 15th century. As for civil architecture, it has numerous ancestral homes from the 16th-18th centuries, as well as middle class homes from the 19th century. Extremadura is a region of contrasts to visit; exceptionally valuable monumental sites, a whole host of natural landscapes, and sample one of Spain’s most highly-prized cured hams, Jamón Ibérico. Extremadura has three sites which have the UNESCO World Heritage designation, spectacular scenery, and is particular favourite with birdwatchers. We enjoyed our stay in Zafra, a real taste of old Spain, a tapa being delivered with each order of drinks, different one each time. Unbelievable cheap restaurants and found our ’best ever’ Estofado De Rabo De Toro (Bull's Tail Stew), a great favourite Spanish meal of ours. Pat and Terry Smith 24

BOWLING OUR WAY! We meet Monday mornings at Benavista Bowls Club no later than 10.00am for 10.15 start. Late arrivals cannot be guaranteed a game. We play as an informal group under the title of ’Independent Club of Estepona’ as such not officially recognised. Dress code is predominately white but the critical factor is footwear, shoes must be smooth soled with no ’pimples or crinkles’. The Management at Benevista strictly apply this rule and it is the duty of everyone to maintain the playing surface in good condition. We should also bear in mind that when playing we keep to the best of our ability, and particularly yours truly plus other notorious offenders whom I shall not name! We should refrain from moving when players are on the mat, and stand behind the mat whilst your opponent bowls. Always stand still at the head when a player is about to bowl as movement or talking at the mat end is very distracting (Alan please note!). Do not delay play. Always play your bowl with minimum delay. Never deliver your bowl before the previous bowl has come to rest. This leads us to the provisional dates for the following three competitions: 1. Open Invitation Challenge Cup, Monday 6th October. If able to compete please add 2. Club Championship Trophy, Monday 20th October. name to list on notice board 3. Benavista Club Challenge Match, Monday 27th October. The ‘Open’ will accept entries from any players deemed at my discretion to have supported us throughout the season and this to maintain our numbers to the envy of other groups. Should numbers exceed the limit of 18 then competitors will be chosen from ‘out of the hat’ names basis. This should ensure a mix of ‘International’ and ‘Independent’ club entries and ensure an interesting competition. The Club Championship Trophy Competition will be restricted to current I.C.E. members only. Terry, our editor, will be defending his title so well earned last year as he defeated some high quality ability bowlers despite relative inexperience at the sport. What are the odds of him retaining this title? The Benavista Club Match will again be a maximum of 18 players. The selection will see priority given to I.C.E. Club members reinforced by ‘Independent’ players if lack of I.C.E. members available. The inaugural match we put up a stiff challenge and held the initiative most of the morning but we finally succumbed to a 4 - 2 defeat. Last year we found ourselves playing against a much stronger team including Division One League players as I believe Benavista took fright at their previous narrow victory! This is understandable as if they were to lose against Monday morning only part-timers it would be equivalent to a baptism of eternal shame! However, victory on our part would be a laudable achievement and surely worth a few drinks! BOWLING AT BEST! FUN AT REST! WINE AT TEST! Submitted by Alan Whiteman FREDDIES RECIPE Patatas bravas with chorizo Prep: 10 mins Cook: 40 mins Bring a Spanish flavour to the table with this smoky starter. Just add crusty bread to serve and share: Ingredients: 1 tbsp olive oil 1 onion, chopped 2 garlic cloves, sliced 1 red chilli, chopped pinch cayenne pepper pinch smoked paprika 400g can chopped tomatoes 1kg new potatoes, halved or quartered 250g small cooking chorizo Method: Heat a little oil in a pan, fry the onion, garlic and chilli until the onion softens, add the cayenne and paprika and stir. Add the tomatoes and bring to a simmer, then cook the whole mixture down for about 20 mins until you have a thick paste. Season well and, if you prefer a smooth sauce, blitz it with a hand blender. Meanwhile, steam the potatoes for 10 mins and put the chorizo in a frying pan to slowly cook and release some of its oil. Tip off the excess red oil and add 1 tbsp olive oil. Add the potatoes and fry everything together, turning the heat up as you go so both the potatoes and chorizo brown in patches. Tip into a bowl. Season the sauce – if it isn’t hot enough add a few more pinches of cayenne. Spoon the sauce over the potatoes and chorizo to serve. 25

Perspective on life When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar......and the beer. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar were full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar were full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar were full. The students responded with a unanimous yes. The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. Now, said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.” "The golf balls are the important things-your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favourite passions - things that if everything else were lost, and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff”. “If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take your partner out to dinner. Go out with friends. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the washing. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand." One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers." Submitted by Richard Bearpark GIVE IT A TRY!!! Heart Attack and Water. Good information to try. Submitted by Derek Fee How many folks do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night!! Answer from Cardiac Doctor – Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement! You need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this is news : Correct time to drink water... Very Important From A Cardiac Specialist! Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body: 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack Adding to this... Water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up. Grey Nomading in Australia Continued, Diary of Louse and Grahams Travels. Many of the club members will have met Margaret and Vic’s daughter Louise and her husband Graham when they visited from Australia for the occasion of Margaret and Vic’s Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrations. Lou and Graham are now taking a 2 year working tour, known as Grey Nomading in Australia, by caravan. "Grey Nomads:" many Aussie's travel around Australia when they retire, Last time we wrote we were off to Woomera, now almost a ghost town except for some Military personnel, it has been a rocket testing area since World War II to try and develop a bomb to combat the devastation of the doodlebugs. I have to say that the interactive museum was fantastic, both Graham and I really enjoyed it and pressed all the buttons that said “PRESS HERE” I actually learnt loads about WWII. The open air part of the museum was also really interesting. The highlight of our stay at Roxby downs was the Roxby Race Day, the horses race on a red dirt track in the middle of nowhere and the ladies all dress up in their finery for the day – I stuck to long pants, thermal top and cardi for the day ‘cause it was about 20 degrees!’ You have to feel really sorry for any jockey that does not run in first place; anyone behind the winner is inevitably covered in red dust!. There were over 2600 people at the races which is awesome for a place with a population of 4000. I managed to come out $69 ahead!! Awesome day, lovely to see everyone out for the highlight of the Roxby Downs Social Calendar! One lovely lady we met had been to the races four times and never seen a horse!!! It was a fairly alcoholic event for most! Whilst in Roxby Downs, exploring the red dirt dessert we had been told about a “secret man cave”. This is gathering place for BBQ’s, drinking, camping and shooting things – such as the sofa, tin cans and anything else that can be found! While house sitting, the lovely home owners wondered if we would take delivery of some chooks for their newly constructed chook house, no problem we said, and they arrived in a cardboard box after a 600km trip from Adelaide! They produced the first egg exactly one hour prior to the home owner’s return, so we missed out! After a stay in Roxby we headed back to the coast spending a night in Pt Pirie, then straight on to Yankalilla to visit some of Grahams SA rellies at Symonds Seeds. Had a fantastic catch up and then made our way to Victor Harbor. Decided to head to the Victor Hotel for dinner and bumped into a friend of my parents who owns the hotel – bonus!! We spent the next day at his farm in the pouring rain helping him herd some cattle. It was so great to catch up with John; my parents have known him for about 35 years. After a couple of nights at Victor Harbor (and a couple more visits to the pub!) we were on the road again. We really wanted to do a few nights free camping and headed off to find something suitable. Got to Wellington on a stunningly scenic drive and came to an abrupt halt as we found the Murray River! Had to get across on a little cable run ferry in the middle of nowhere! Headed towards our overnight stop and what we found was breathtaking; next to the beach, not a sole in sight and the most stunning sunset we have ever seen. Our dogs ran like mad things on the beach as we sat on a rock with glass in hand and drank in the beauty of our location (as well as a bottle of wine!) Sunrise was a spectacular as sunset, although Graham struggles to get his head around the sun setting over the ocean instead of over the hills like it does back home! Having found this spectacular spot we have decided to stay another night or two, the dogs are over the moon and running along the beach most of the time. Unfortunately no TV reception but will listen to it on radio on beach with a glass of wine in hand! I love my life! Till next time!! Lou and Graham 29

JUST FOR A SMILE

THE BOOK OF SENIOR JOKES Submitted by Gordon Beetson Turning a Deaf Ear A husband was becoming increasingly concerned that his wife might have a hearing problem. So as they relaxed watching TV in their favourite armchairs one evening, he called across to her: 'Can you hear me, Ethel?' There was no response. A few seconds later he asked her again, this time a little louder. 'Can you hear me, Ethel?' Still there was no response. So he tried for a third time, louder still. 'Can you hear me, Ethel?' She answered impatiently: 'For the third time, yes!' Table Manners Sitting at the dinner table, a daughter complimented her father on his improved manners. ‘I'm pleased to see that after all these years you have finally learned to put your hand over your mouth whenever you cough.’ ‘I have to’ he replied. ‘It’s the only way I can catch my teeth!’ Age Concerns Three little old ladies were sitting around discussing the problems of ageing. The first lady said, 'You know, I'm getting really forgetful. This morning I was standing at the bottom of the stairs and I couldn't remember if I was just about to go up or if I had just come down.' 'Oh, that's nothing: said the second lady 'The other day I was sitting on the edge of my bed, wondering if I was going to bed or if I had just got up.' 'I'm pleased to say my memory is as good as ever, touch wood: said the third lady; rapping her knuckles on the table. Then remarked: 'That must be the door - I'll get it.'
