Step back in time at the non-profit Whippany Railway Museum where a larger-than-life train provides a 45-minute, round trip ride through Morris and Essex Counties. You’ll travel the route of “The Whippanong Trail”, where Washington’s armies trod in the bitter Winter of 1779— an area rich in our country’s history.

The Museum’s mid-1900’s excursion train feature a unique collection of restored vintage cabooses from historic rail lines that once served New Jersey and the Metropolitan area. The 10-mile excursion from Whippany to Roseland and return is a thrill for the children as they enjoy what for many, will be their very first train ride… and they can also learn about and experience the history of New Jersey’s rich railroad and transportation heritage. Passengers can combine the thrill of riding the train along with touring the Museum site, featuring an outstanding collection of historic railroad locomotives, rolling stock, and operating model train layouts.

Upgrade your excursion experience by choosing to ride in the award-winning Lackawanna Railroad Subscription Club Car No. 2454, which radiated elegance on a train once known as ‘The Millionaire’s Express’ that operated between Hoboken Terminal and Gladstone, NJ. The Central Railroad of New Jersey club car ‘Jersey Coast’ is a beautifully-restored car that features all the amenities offered by the CNJ’s deluxe Blue Comet passenger train of the 1930s. The Blue Comet ran between Jersey City and Atlantic City, NJ, and the striking paint scheme of cream and blue reminds one of a comet streaking through space.
