DRUG ABUSE

A new drug is Emerging in Africa, Zimbabwe included some parts of Zimbabwe especially in Harare High Density locations. The drug is crystal meth. Meth is highly addictive stimulant that provides users an euphoric feeling and can keep users awake for days. It causes paranoia, agitation, aggressive, tweaking and psychosis. It really ruins lives, explains one of the Doctors ( an emergency department physician) As harm reduction measure according to the drug suppliers, they provide users with glass stems that are used to smoke meth. The pipe also comes with mouth piece tubing to prevent the transmission of hepatitis from open sores or dry cracked lips that may have been on a shared pipe.

In some countries crystal meth infiltrates communities. Property crimes include break and enters, shoplifting and, most concerning, robbery. “The aggression and violence associated with crystal meth is problematic, drug users that don’t have the ability to pay for crystal meth have to resort to crime”, explains one of the Officers abroad.

“The change in personality for people using this drug is a huge concern, it is also proven that drug users are more likely to engage in unsafe sex practices too”, he continues to say.

“Crystal meth is believed to be more popular in a number of countries because it is cheap and drug users get hooked really quickly to crystal meth because of the europhoric feeling”, says one of the Officers from Mexico.

“Drug dealers selling these drugs should really face a lifetime jail sentence. It’s so sad, there was one girl who has been using these drugs for months and she died recently because of this, neighbours said she started hallucinations in the late afternoon and people found her dead next morning, next to her bed was an empty rat poison container, it’s really really sad” says one of the woman from Harare, Highfield area.

A lodger nextdoor lives a lavish life on selling drugs and is well known for this, She brags that she is untouchable and can’t be arrested. She seems to be a sacred cow ,an untouchable a and well linked. She is bully as far as kuchibhorani chaiko and her kids are as wild .

I also believe that due Covid-19 and unfavourable environment for the youth, youth are confused about their future and are easily exposed to such things as drugs and alcohol

hoping to forget or ignore whats really happening around the world. Is there not a way to remind the youth that despite the issues we are going through, there is still hope or that the future is actually in our hands?

Teenage pregnancy is on the rise in Bulawayo and making headlines.

With schools closing due to Covid-19 era, the only way students have been learning is through Online, the sad part is not all of the students’ parents can afford bundles. Some students have totally lost interest in learning and have indulged into some activities to pass their time. These activities includes, drug abuse and sex.

Under the influence of drugs and alcohol these students do not use protection during intercourse and this results in teenage pregnancies.

Covid-19 has hit youth so hard that most of the youth are confused about their future, but still that is no excuse of indulging into premature , unprotected sex and dangerous drugs, youth should be creative and find ways to deal with this Covid-19 era.

Well-done to some youth that have started farming projects, online marketing jobs, some have joined manufacturing of cleaning detergents industry and are doing well.

Dee is currently at Chikurubi Maximum Prison Hospital/ Psychiatric Unit because of substance abuse ndakamusungisa Aprill 2019 after andirova akapotsa andiuraya to date handinzwisise kuti ndakapunyuka sei . Right now kwaari ikoko Kune mwanakomana we stepbrother yababa vangu Sdak akauraya bamnini Aaron end of July 2019 ari under influence of drugs .Akavatema nedemo vakakotsira akavabvisa musoro apa he was his only son he raised alone from the age 1 year 8 months after his wife’s death mwana ovauraya at 19 years I really pray that this drug abuse to be dealt with once and for all before it gets out of hand. We have to come together as neighbours, society, community, churches and as a country to deal with this.
