A classic Vicksburg house that’s been home to five generations of the same family, this lovely Cherry Street residence was built in 1915 by Robert Crump Wilkerson. Home in turn to his son and grandson, it’s now the residence of his great-granddaughter Virginia and her husband Jack Burrell. The Burrells raised their daughters, the fifth generation, here in the family homestead. Essentially unchanged over 100-plus years, the house has its own story to tell. When first built, and just before Wilkerson’s family was to move in, a fire broke out, burning the house to the ground. Wilkerson re-built the home with fire-retardant tiles under the stucco skin. The Burrell’s changed the original gray stucco to a livelier color and added a separate garage and guesthouse.
