Perched above Confederate Avenue, Lenland was built in 1969 by Dallas architect Howard Meyer for Helen and Landman Teller. Meyer was a regionally known architect; most famous for his design of the Temple Emanu-El in Dallas. Meyer’s designs show the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright. Lenland was the first house in Vicksburg designed for central air conditioning. Teller’s daughter Linda purchased the house in 1996. In 2016, she and her husband, Jim Parker, sold the house to Mihan McKenna. With her husband, Oliver, she is restoring much of the house to its original state. The Teller family had saved all documents from the design and construction and have shared with Mihan and Oliver their memories of the house over the years. In every renovation, Mihan and Oliver have saved as much of the original material as possible. They love their new home and the opportunity to preserve a modern Vicksburg treasure.
