Exsiting Take-Out Bento Box Characteristics:

- unrecyclable materials such as plastics and paper. - chopsticks are usually used and remade multiple times. - plastic spoon, fork, and knife. - greasy food makes the box oily. - rubber bands to tie the box. - there are 2 to 5 compartments. - the box is usually rectangular or rounded.

Week 1 Sketches The initial idea was to make a hexagon shaped box in order to make the box easier to hold by one hand if needed. The cutlery will be on the lid and it can be disassembled: to save the materials of cutlery.

Shape & Size The shape and size of the bento box are important. These two elements would affect the way people hold the box and use of cutlery. Ergonomics was one of the aspect to consider when designing a bento box.

This is how people usually hold a bento box. Normally, you need both of your hands to hold the box because it is heavy, and the box could be too soft to hold by one hand.

The way people normally hold and use chopsticks when eating chinese food.

Week 2 Sketches

The ways of holding ergonomic cutlery.

The bento boxes should be able to stuck on. The carrier should be able to carry at least three boxes at once.

Week 3 Sketches

The templates of assembling two different shapes of boxes.

Packaging Food packaging becomes more and more important. There are many different food packaging designs nowadays.

Week 4 Sketches Different perspectives, isometric, and orthographics of the box and packaging.

Week 5 Sketches Concept sketches of the bento box and the carrier.

Week 6 Sketches The final concept of the bento box. - it is for one person. - the box has 6 compartments. - cutlery(spoon, fork, knife, and chopsticks) is on the carrier and it can be disassembled.
