Belonging in a Better World I’m creative, talented, hopeful, optimistic, and ambitious. I thrive on marketing and brand campaign projects. I’m known to push off my schoolwork so I can finish up planning my campaign as VP Marketing of Net Impact. I can spend hours designing away in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I cry at amazing commercials and crack up at witty advertisements.

I’m flawed. I can do better with time management. I have a lot to learn when it comes to the marketing and communications industry. I get emotionally caught up with people, places, and things.

But my desire for emotional connection propels me to marketing agencies. I can spend hours looking at case studies, videos, and digital campaigns detailing how an agency completely transformed a brand. I love seeing the innovative ways that something seemingly so impersonal – a razor brand, a search engine, soap – can be used to connect with millions of consumers. These once mundane things can truly inspire people.

Sometimes, I get a bad reaction when I say I want to pursue a career in marketing. “Oh, so you want to trick people into spending money on useless products, huh?” they say. I don’t want that. I want to work for brands that I respect. Good marketing changes consumer behavior – increasing road safety, using good soap to keep the world hygienic, and encouraging sustainable behavior.

All anyone wants is to belong – that someone can empathize with you and understand you.

When you have low body image, Dove shows you that you’re more beautiful than you think you are.

When you’re disgusted with the environmental state of the world, Coca-Cola uses their Living Positively campaign to show you how you can take small steps to help out.

I want to work for an agency with the initiative to enact social good and act ethically. I want my work to reach consumers across the world and helped countless brands. I want to use my creative, writing, and interpersonal skills to connect quality brands with the world. I want to inspire people.

I want to better lives.
