The projects requires the fulfillment of the unfinished urban block, this is achieved by displaying three different pieces: The First volume is the heaviest and densest, it is the link between the intervention to its existing context. It contains the most private functions within the program. The second volume stands for the articulation within the intervention itself; the permeability of its skin shows the continuing movement that occurs inside as it contains both lobby and vertical circulation core. The last translucent volume becomes the joining between the dwelling and the exterior. Its height and offset from the ground floor creates an open space entry at the street level as the same time it encloses the urban block at the levels above El remate de la mazana se plantea mediante tres volúmenes claramente diferenciados: uno, más pesado y opaco, que vincula la intervención a las edificaciones preexistentes albergando el uso de mayor recogimiento; otro intermedio muy permeable, que articula las distintas estancias, contiene el núcleo de comunicación vertical y funciona como acceso al edificio. Y un tercero traslúcido relacionando la vivienda con el exterior, que se eleva sobre la rasante para dejar la planta baja libre y rematando así volumétricamente el conjunto.

Designed around the central courtyard, the building is composed by two blocks; one aligned to the street property line and the other aligned to the dead end of the site. The courtyard becomes the loan of the intervention through which both building ventilate. There are three apartments per floor, two of them face the main façade while the third one looks into the courtyard. The courtyard recovers the Andalucian identity from the vernacular contextual architecture by becoming the host of both vertical and horizontal circulation, as well as every access to each apartment. Proyectado entorno a un patio central, el edificio está formado por un cuerpo de doble crujía alineado al viario público y otro situado en el fondo de la parcela que respira a través del patio interior. Se disponen tres viviendas por planta, dos de ellas situadas en fachada principal y una tercera al otro lado del patio. En éste se desarrollan los recorridos comunes del edificio mediante pasarelas exteriores alternadas a ambos lados, que comunican el núcleo de comunicación vertical con cada una de las viviendas.

This settlement has been design in order to host the victims of a natural catastrophe. This is why prefabrication and assembly simplicity become the core concepts for this project. Each shelter is composed by a foldable barrel vault shaped skin on different sizes and one fully designed equipped piece of furniture which organizes the space. The different sizes of skin systems combined with the diverse furniture designs, lead to a wide variety of combination which satisfy the various program demands. Este poblado de emergencia está concebido para socorrer a las víctimas de una catástrofe natural por lo que la prefabricacion y facilidad de montaje son el punto de partida de la idea de proyecto. Cada refugio está compuesto por un cerramiento con forma de bóveda de cañon desplegable de tamaños variavles y un mueble equipado que ordena las entancias proporcionandoles un uso. La combinacion de cerramientos de diferentes tamaños con los distintos tipos de muebles, da lugar a varias tipologias que responden a las posibles demandas.

The analysis of the site and its context leads to the conclusion of a need for a better pedestrian connection across the “Carmona Road” while the road traffic should not be affected by this strategy. This carries the physical separation of both circulations layouts; the private circulation is conducted underground while the public remains at ground floor being as well connected by public transport and cycle ways. New public spaces and squares occupy the gained space on the ground level; these areas will be equipped with public facilities, sports and cultural amenities which will become active nods within the neighborhood, reducing the global density of the area. El análisis de la zona demanda una intervención que favorezca el trafico peatonal trasversal a la carretera de carmona permitiendo a su vez la fluidez del trafico rodado en esta importante arteria de la ciudad. De este modo se produce una separacion de flujos de forma que el transporte privado circula soterrado, quedando la cota de calle para uso de viandantes, cilcistas y transporte público. A ambos lados de la calle se libera espacio creando plazas equipadas como nudos de intercambio social generadores de actividad pública, reduciendo así la densidad del barrio.

Given the urban and topographical contextual conditions, the project may be perceived from two antonymous points of view. One displays a holistic fragmented perspective of the intervention where the building is integrated within the urban skyline, while the other hides the size of the building, showing short photograms of it, defining a kindlier image of the town through mimicking its contextual scales, geometries and materials.The intervention aims to become continuous transition between the natural and the urban landscape. Dadas las condiciones urbanas y topográficas de la parcela, el proyecto se percibe desde dos puntos de vista antitéticos a dos escalas. Uno de ellos muestra la totalidad de la interveción de manera fragmentada insertándolo en el skyline urbano, mientras que el otro oculta la envergadura del edificio dejando ver pequeños fotogramas del mismo y ofreciendo una imagen más amable con el pueblo, mediante un proceso de equivalencias en cuanto a geometrías, escalas y acabados. Se parte de una serie de estrategias para la materialización de la idea.

This is achieved through three main strategies. 1st connecting the urban public space to the nature by introducing the pedestrian walkway along the whole intervention, 2nd becoming an link between the town and the countryside through its architecture, the architecture is on the one hand adapted to the natural topography by stepping down the hill becoming horizontal platforms, while on the other hand is creating a gradient where the density of upstanding architecture decreases towards the natural landscape. 3rd, as a result the intervention becomes a visual physical and phenomenological transition between the antonymous duality of its context, the natural and urban landscapes. En primer lugar se busca una continuidad del espacio público introduciéndolo en la parcela, mediante la creación de un paseo longitudinal peatonal. Pretende actuar como charnela entre el mundo rural y el urbano, donde la arquitectura se adapta al terreno natural en dos franjas longitudinales y las edificaciones emergentes se disponen en un gradiente de densidad decreciente hacia el mundo rural. Por último se persige una continuidad visual entre el paisaje natural y el entorno urbano.
