Welcome! To Epic Entertainment Magazine! Hey there reader welcome to Epic Entertainment Magazine’s first ever edition! My name is Victoria and I run the magazine. I do photos, interviews, articles, host the meetings and everything else that happens here. I’ve got some awesome help from Joseph Greenbaum, Matthew Vela, Thomas Downs, Ashur Benjamin, Phillip Carnevale, Mandi Kimes, Adal Robles, Ron Maher and of course my right hand man who I couldn’t have done this without Chris Lamoree. With these group of writers and photographers we created something EPIC. A little background on EEM, I’ve always gone to shows, met celebrities, vip access to this and that and it was fun but I wanted it to be something more than just fun. I wanted to make something out of it and a career out of it so I created my first ever magazine. I want people to see entertainment through my eyes and through the eyes of those who work for me. I’m always open to bringing people on board for an event that they experienced that they want to share with the world as well! We cover everything from big music festivals in other states to haunted houses (or holiday events). We cover the best bars/clubs in Arizona to advertising some of the best companies in Arizona. I’m very open minded to what entertainment means. People say they’re bored all the time and they shouldn’t be. There’s so much in this world to see whether it’s a concert, a bar, a fair, going skiing this winter, the best resorts in state and around etcetera. My life is full of entertainment and you should be getting the most out of life like we here at Epic Entertainment Magazine do. This first issue was very hard for me because my funding for hard copies fell through, I lost my business partner right towards the end of it, I lost a lot of writers and photographers just because they gave up. The people who are featured in this, who wrote for it and took pictures and so forth we’re the ones who don’t give up. We make things happen no matter how long how far and how hard it was/is. We’re a great team of motivation, of helping and pushing each other, hard work and true dedication and I couldn’t thank them more for all they’ve done for me. Each issue will be released around seasons and holidays. Every two months we’ll release a new edition and each time I know it will get better and bigger. We’ve got Thanksgiving and Christmas and the new year coming up and there’s going to be so many big and awesome events for people to go to. I just want to help others get a great experience and spread the word about some of these life changing moments. And anyone who wants to be featured in here should reach out because I’d be more than happy to help tell the world about them! I hope you guys enjoy reading this like I do. I wanted it to be different, real, no photoshop, no just boring feel to it. I wanted you to see the pictures like you were there. I want you to read the interviews like you’re the one doing it. I want you to experience the magazine in the best way like I did and I think you will. Thanks again to all those who were apart of this!
Moonshine Whiskey Bar Daisey dukes, cowboy boots, free shots poured by the hottest ladies in town and drinks made by the best of the best. Moonshine Whiskey Bar is the only place to offer that kind of night. Country bars are rare and few here in Arizona but it’s because of that that they are the best places to be. Take Moonshine Whiskey Bar on Mill Avenue. The only country bar to be on Mill and every Friday and Saturday night there’s a line to get in. But why? What makes a country bar of all places on Mill so great? Whether you’re going out on a Wednesday night like most of us regulars do to listen to the awesome mixing by Dj Steel or you’re coming out on a Sunday to eat a pound of wings for only five dollars you’re always in for a good time. The atmosphere of Moonshine is unlike any in Arizona. It’s relaxing, it’s a party, it’s classy and you’re always in for some sort of a surprise. Girls dancing on the bar, an upstairs patio, a chandelier made out of mason jars! What a place! But not only is Moonshine a bar for people to party and have a good time, it’s become a second home to some of us. If you’re a regular like I am you can walk in any time of any day and see at least five people you know, get hugs, get a good cheer up, grab a drink, dance around, and make a fool of yourself on the bull without being judged. The staff, the owners even their customers all form a tight bond that is sure to last a life time.. or at least a night! So come on out with those cowboy boots on, two step, Cupid Shuffle, dance on the bar, grab a few beers and meet some awesome people for the night of your life!
Interview with Lars one of the owners of Moonshine Whiskey Bar
“Why did you pick Ben to be your partner and what would you say is his strongest quality?” “Ben and I became partners out of luck, we both knew someone who wanted to open a bar but he ended up backing out leaving Ben and I and we both wanted to open up a country bar so we opened up Moonshine. And Bens best quality is his negotiation skills and his overall business structure. He saves us a lot of money on rent and things like that and he’s really good with negotiations.” “What would you say is your personal favorite part about Moonshine and everything you two have created?” “I think the best part is that it’s fun and when you come in here you just have a great time. Everything put together here just makes it a great time, we have the banger of the night at the end of the night, we have the bull, you come in and drink, all the dancing, the chandelier and it has a beautiful ambiance and there’s lots of pretty people who come in. So all around it’s like a party and I think that’s something that Mill Ave didn’t have.” “Did you two actually create the chand.. “ “It was my design, and then Ben altered it a little bit.” L “Lars came to me with this idea and said he saw it in Footloose, and then I helped design it and build it with people who know how to bend metal and people who know how to wire stuff. And then Lars myself and some staff members actually hung it by ourselves.” B “There’s a video of me dangling over the edge..” “I’m on a 12 foot ladder and he’s on the opposite side of the railing with a rope around him being held by one of our bigger guys” “One of the cool things you should know about Moonshine is that I went to ASU I’ve been in this building for a long time. Ben and I live in Tempe so it’s owned by Tempe boys. We’re here every night, one of us is here 7 nights a week. I think it’s cool cause on a Friday or Saturday night there’s a good chance that one of the owners will buy you a drink. If we know your face we’ll take care of you, especially our regulars because it builds a relationship.”
Interview with Ben the other owner of Moonshine Whiskey Bar “Are you guys going to be expanding Moonshine at all? “We are always looking to expand. We looked at Flagstaff and Colorado. I lived in Colorado for a little while and would not mind moving back there again. Maybe even Tucson.” “So there is rumor of you opening up another bar right here next to Moonshine. Can you fill me in?” “It’s going to be a two story circle bar outside. We’re working with the zoning official right now but it will be right here where that water fountain is and we’re going to put a second floor patio on it too. It’s going to be a separate concept from moonshine. It’s going to be a cuban style cigar bar with fun drinks. More for happy hour when it’s nice out it’s going to be owned by us so when we have country events we can change the theme of it and make it look countryish. So that bar will serve as an outside bar while we host events here. So look for it early of next year!” “Are you worried about each of your bars taking away from each other?” “No because if my neighbor is busy than my bar is going to be busy. I want to move the crowd from 6th to here. I want to create an entertainment district here that people just flock to. Most people that come here, they come here because they want to be here. We’re not worried about any other bars or even our own.” “You mentioned having country events here, what are you planning? “We’re looking at bringing out Easton Corbin and Josh Thompson sometime next year. We’ll have a big country party here in the auditorium area for the events which we can use the circular bar and Moonshine as well.” “So why a country bar on Mill Ave?” “It’s not here. It’s the 1 thing that hasn’t been done on Mill yet. There’s 17 bars, or there were when we opened and it’s the 1 concept that hasn’t been attempted yet. Arizona is one of the strongest states in the country for country so it seemed like common sense.” “How did you land the Bar Hunters deal?” “That was me. I have a pretty big background in business. So when I opened up this business they saw that and how this was successful and contacted me. There was a lot of publicity for this so they contacted me with interest to film here. They liked how we are on camera and the location and the concept behind it all.” “How did you and Lars meet?” “I talked about doing a partnership with the guy who owns American Junkie and when our project didn’t work out at Gringo Star he put me in touch with Lars because he thought we would have a lot in common. We kinda just got along and I liked his idea to put the country bar here.”
“What’s your favorite part about Moonshine personally?” “I would agree with Lars on what he said. You don’t have to be a country fan to have a good time here. I brought a ton of my friends from California out here and they just have a good time and party. You don’t have to have it programmed on your radio station to want to be here. I feel like we get the best looking girls in Tempe here. We’ve got a great looking staff too guys and girls.” “I heard that you guys will be making a big appearance at Country Thunder 2014” “We’ll have a huge RV blasting Moonshine and have a red solo cup party and everything.” “So for country thunder, are you guys going to have a Moonshine cabana?” “We’re going to circle it off, have some moonshine banners up, we’re going to bring tons of kegs and probably sell cups for like five bucks. We’re going to have a huge presence there. We’re going to be on the jumbotrons there and having camera presence and t shirts and so forth.” “Are you guys going to bring merchandise to the bar?” “Yes! We’re working on bringing in tshirts and hats for men and women at Moonshine.” “What do you want readers to know about Moonshine?” “I want them to know about our menu. We have great food and we’re not getting the presence of people during happy hour which is 410 and we want people to know about it. I’ll say if our menu gets big again then we’ll bring back the ribs for those who remember them.”
Interview with Tyler one of the bartenders at Moonshine Whiskey Bar "How do you like being a bartender at Moonshine and what is your favorite part about it?" I absolutely love it! I love the interaction with numerous people and the hours are the best part. "Are you a country fan? And if so, what's your favorite country song? If not, how do you put up with working there?" Sort of. I was raised on country so I love 90's country, but usually we hear the same couple songs that make you go crazy. "You're one of the newer bartenders, what's your favorite drink to make and favorite trick to perform? I love making things that people haven't heard of, or things that are bright in color. Makes a bit of a wow factor. And I'd have to say juggling, when it's slow, you can usually find me juggling ice, tins, cups, and anything else I can get in the air. "Why did you want to become a bartender in the first place?" I started a few years ago in the industry promoting, and then managing a team of promoters. I love to keep moving up and be challenged differently. "What's the best and worst pick up line you've heard at Moonshine? Haha, I don't think I've heard a good one yet, but I've heard a ton of bad ones. But the worst is when they claim to own or manage part of the bar.
Interview with Rico another bartender at Moonshine Whiskey Bar “Why did you want to become a bartender and how long have you been doing it?” “I’m on 13 years going on 14 years now, I started as a bar back at Planet Hollywood in London and just graduated a stupid business couse that I didn’t enjoy very much. I went in and asked and was hired the next day. After two years they didn’t make me a bartender so I left, so I went somewhere else and after 6 months they made me a bartender and 6 months later head bartender and then working bar manager.” “Are you the working bar manager here?” “No, just one of the lead bartenders. There’s about two to three of us here that people go to for help. People pretty much know they can go to one of three of us here to ask how much Jameson we have left for the week or how to make drinks.” “What brought you to Moonshine and do you like working here? And what’s your favorite thing about working here?” “Moonshine happened around me. When I first got to Arizona no one knew me or my talents and it was hard getting hired. When I went to Margarita rocks who was constantly hiring at the time, told them I flipped bottles and a few things they hired me the next day. Moonshine kinda happened around me. They bought the bar I worked at and they offered everyone an opportunity to stay on through the transition and I was the only bartender who stuck through it. For that reason I’m the longest employee here. I’m quite thankful for it though so I didn’t have to go job hunting. I like the place because people come here because they love the music. They go out of their way because they love country music and really enjoy it versus people who just go out to get drunk on Friday or Saturday.”
“So your fascination with batman where did that come from and will you be dressed as Batman for halloween?” “No, I think people will see that coming If I dress up as Batman. But we have themes to follow like Saturday we’re dressing up as farm animals. I’m a nerd I’m into comics and video games and it was always the black suited spiderman, and I guess somebody gave me the nickname in their phone as Batman. And then one night here one of the guys here gave me a ride home and I was on the back of his motorcycle and I was quite drunk and I was like “come on man Batman goes way quicker than this” and I stood up and put my arms out and said I’m Batman.” “What’s the worst pickup line you’ve ever heard at a bar” “Um.. I mean there’s always the cheesy stuff like are your legs tired because you’ve been running through my mind all day. And you stand there and you’re waiting for them to pay as they use these stupid lines and you’re just wondering.. have these ever worked you idiot? Like seriously how often has it worked, keep trying.” “Growing up what did you want to be or did you want to be Batman the bartender?” “Well growing up I always wanted to get into movie effects. Like costumes and make up. I’ve always been fascinated with it.”

13th Floor Haunted House Darkness. Clowns. Chainsaws. Monsters. Screams. Blood. Graveyards. Zombies. It’s the end of the world, it’s your worst fear, it’s The 13th Floor. The scariest haunted house in Arizona has been giving thousands of people screams all month long and the scariest night of all is yet to come. Pitch Black November 7th and 8th is the final days of this terrorizing place and by far the scariest night! Featuring two different houses, Zombie Land and The 13th Floor you’re in for screams throughout the night. I had the pleasure of going to The 13th Floor for the first time this year and can promise you I myself screamed throughout the whole thing (while the cameras were filming too)! But before losing my voice, I was able to sit down and interview some of the actors and the acting director of The 13th Floor. “Are there other 13th floors in the country?” “It was collaboration of a couple people who would put together haunted houses to bring together the 13th Floor. We’re in states like Colorado, Arizona and Texas and I believe the company is still growing.” “What would you say is going to be the best scare of the 13th Floor for the viewees?” “They’re all good scares but there’s certain aspects we need like clowns, darkness, chainsaws etc. What we try to do is put them in the places that will optimize that fear in people. The rest of the show might not have got to them but we try to get that one good scare out of them.” “What inspired ringthisdoorbell.com?” “Social media. We’re trying to expand to everyone everywhere and give them a good scare before they even get here. So we know Facebook is one of the biggest for media so we hit that. You sign in and John Doe is looking at your pictures and your friends pictures and when you get here you see him and you say “O my God that’s John Doe!” “Is John Doe here in the building?” “Yes, John Doe is here with his wrench looking around for you right now.” “How many people does it take to make The 13th Floor happen?” “Tonight’s around 100 actors in their scenes. Becoming monsters, some will be outside like the grave digger, John Doe etc. And on top of actors we have the concession stands, security, lighting and I think it’s well worth it and anyone who comes here will have a good time.” “What is the one thing you want readers to know about The 13th Floor?” “I get to work here all year long and build these sets and every single set there’s a lot of passion and crazy in it. I want you to forget about the medical issues, and the job you hate and the taxes next year and just escape and enjoy yourself. You’re coming into a show thats filled with magic and passion.”
Arizona State Fair B y R o n Ma h e r October is a busy month in Phoenix. As the weather releases its triple足 digit hold on us, outdoor activities come alive again. One of the most awaited annual events of the year is the Arizona State Fair in central Phoenix. You'll find rides, exhibits, concerts, food, shows 足 there's something for everyone. Each year about one million people, Arizona residents as well as visitors from other states, visit the fair. The phrase "something for everyone" has never had more meaning than when applied to the Arizona State Fair. Of course kids and teens love the fair, but adults can enjoy the entertainment and activities just like their younger counterparts. The State Fair is held at the Fairgrounds (where else?) at 1826 W. McDowell Rd (19th Ave & McDowell Rd) in Phoenix, AZ. There is a $10 charge for parking at the fairgrounds. Parking is $5 in the 20th Ave. & Encanto parking lot (SW corner of 19th Ave & Encanto). The Arizona State Fair delights the crowds with standard favorites activities and events. The midway, the rides, and the animal exhibits are all part of the grand tradition. Every year, the organizers of the event always introduce new attractions to add some variety and appeal to the programming. I don't know how they do it, but every single year they find new ways to entertain us. What will it be this year? High足jumping hamsters? Bull足riding bobcats? Tricycle test drives? The concerts at the Arizona State Fair are free with your paid general admission. You might have to stand in line to get a seat, but the concert schedule always features nationally known performers. It isn't unusual for people from neighboring states to come to town just for one of these concerts. I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one who pays the full price to get into the Arizona State Fair! Look here, www.azstatefair.com to get a rundown on admission specials, including unlimited ride wristbands. They can save you and your family a bunch of money.
Tour De FatWhere You Ride in Style and Cheers to Beer. Tempe Arizona An outsider looking in may view this event as a drunken bike party that swarms Mill Avenue. However, for those involved it means much more than that. It is a part of New Belgium Brewery History, a philosophy and fun for everyone. The idea of Tour De Fat started with a dream and a pickup truck. Now it is a dream that has raised over 500 thousand dollars for the communities involved. After talking to Mateo Kowal, Employee Owner, I have come to discover the foundation of this event. Apart from the general consensus of the public, of the goodness of beer and bikes, Mateo makes a great impression for New Belgium Festivities. “Tour de Fat is a direct reflection of an Employee owned company,” states Mateo Kowal. The reflection of a spectator is that of a great cause and reason for camaraderie. Bike lovers and beer lovers a like come to the event for an experience. After attending 110 Tour De Fat events Mateo Kowal expressed his great appreciation for Tempe’s willingness to be a part of the event. The willingness to partake in this event came quite easily with the various activities that were at Tour De Fat. People of all ages roam the streets in “Ale’s Angels” apparel. The stages are crowded with people dancing their heart out for a chance to win a free bicycle. Lines across Tempe park to get a chance to try the beers on draft. Many enjoyed that of the infamous Fat Tire, while others went the more seasonal route with the Pumpkick Ale. Every year, it grows tremendously. Some costumes become more absurd and the bike designers become more creative and original. Tour De Fat is a day to celebrate the feeling of wind in your hair and the breath of fresh air. It is a community that comes together to inspire the power of sustainable living and choice. Next year Tour De Fat is in town, I hope you take the choice to find out what the folly is all about! Cruise down Mill in an original Tour De Fat costume and pick a bicycle to best suit your style. Cheers! Written By: Natalia Carnevale
Scottsdale Showdown This year KMLE hosted the first ever Scottsdale Showdown in the beautiful city of Scottsdale, Arizona. The event brought an amazing Bull Riding competition mixed with an amazing live concert of some of the greatest artists in country music. Cowboys, bull riding, country music, dancing, food, and lots of good times. That sounds like the perfect combination for a spectacular event, that we just couldn’t miss. The talent they had on display was amazing and kept you on the edge of your seat, cheering at the amazing rides. They had plenty of seating available for the general admission guests that gave you a full view of everything. The real experience was to the VIP guests, which you get for only $50 more, where you get to go down into the pit and can stand against the fence around the competition giving you almost the same heart pounding feel that the riders themselves get. Once done with the competition you could make your way over to see KMLE outside of the concert venue where the eye candy Buck and Beard would take pictures with you making you sure had a grin on your face when you walked in. Inside the concert venue they had special placing for VIP guests where they provided the best gourmet sandwiches with savory chipotle flavors and bacon bits to satisfy your every need, to amazing moon pies on a stick for dessert. To go along with the food they gave away 8 free drinks which made sure you were dancing all night long! The venue for the concert was perfect, plenty of open space for the crowd and dancing, along with “Cabana” areas for elite VIPs and sponsors. The lineup complimented the entire night perfectly with the sounds of Maggie Rose, Jerrod Neimen and the legends Montgomery Gentry. Dj Du played between sets keeping the crowd dancing and singing along. Everyone there had a huge smile on their faces and laughs heard all around. I couldn’t imagine this event being any better, but KMLE and everyone else involved promised the next year would be multiple times better than this year. You can sign us up and guarantee we will be there to cover every last amazing moment again!
Epic Entertainment Magazine Presents: Monster Energy’s Aftershock 2013
Featuring Interviews With: BuckCherry Butcher Babies HI M Pop Evil Gemini Syndrome T h e A l p h a C o mp l e x Otherwise
Interview with Stevie D of BuckCherry: “Is there a special someone who comes to mind when you perform your hit Sorry?” “Well for me I think of my wife, I know that Josh our singer wrote the song for his wife. It’s a song about being on the road, guys screw up, we’re human it’s our apology song to our girls. We’re very imperfect animals, we’re very imperfect creatures.” “Which is your favorite song to preform?” “It’s hard to pick a favorite, I love them all. I like playing songs off the new album, Gluttony, Wrath, The Truth but I don’t get tired of playing Lit Up or Crazy Bitch either.” “What does BuckCherry mean and how did you come up for the name for it?” “Keith Nelson came up with the name when he was reading a book with the name Chuck Berry. Chuck Berry said that the music business is so greedy that they’ll do anything to make a buck. Like take your name and turn it inside out from Chuck Berry to BuckCherry. “How did you all meet and when did you know to form the band?” “Well the band had been together since 97 and then took a break and then got back together around 2005/2006 and it was with 3 new members. We knew we wanted this to be a band when Keith said come on over and rehearse we’ll work on some songs for our show at the key club. Then he said if you want to do this for good bring your rent money on Tuesday, so that’s what happened.” “What advice would you give to an upcoming band?” “I would say the most important thing is songs. Work on your songs. Find somebody you like that’s already successful and reverse engineer why they’re successful. It usually is songs, so I would say work on your craft, being a good performer, song writer, if you’re a guitar player work on being a great guitar player. Be great at everything.” “Is there anything you’d like to specifically say to your fans reading?” “We love you, we’re so grateful you’re in our lives. For our US fans we’ll see you next year, if you’re in South America, UK or Europe or Australia we are on our way!”
Interview with Butcher Babies: “What is it like being one of the only girl bands performing?” “That’s interesting because I don’t look at it as being a girl band. I think we’re all here together as musicians. However I didn’t even realize, that ya, I guess it’s us, Halestorm and In This Moment. And I’m so honored to be in the same realm as those two bands. Maria, of In This Moment has been one of my biggest inspirations since 06/07. It’s really an honor and there’s a lot of bands with a lot of females in them like Skillet and they play and the drummer sings which I think is awesome because I can’t even chew bubble gum and walk haha.” “Growing up did you want to be pretty princesses or rocker chicks?” “Well thats interesting because I think both of us went through a spell of both. I was always more like the badass sports fanatic who loved rock and roll and music but my sisters and I would play barbies. I was also a cheerleader too and did all the things that girls do. But I think that’s not what makes you a bad ass it’s how you think on the inside. And Carla was always the same kinda girl she is now just angry at the world. No I’m just kidding, we grew up a lot the same and that helped us connect.” “How did you two meet?” “Carla and I were in a cover band together. It was a punk metal cover band and there were a lot of girls in it and they were really snobby. They were a lot of covers and we were used to original stuff so we quit that and made this. And now we’re here!” “How did you learn to scream the way that you do?” “It’s completely different than singing and a different technique. And I grew up a classically trained singer. So when I realized that this is where my passion lies and that I want to scream like the boys do and like I’m mad at my mom and dad it took a long time for me to learn. I think mostly what did it for me is driving in my car and just doing it.” “Who is your biggest musical inspiration?” “My biggest inspiration would have to be Slipknot. That’s what I grew up with, I’m a new metal kid born in the 80’s but really grew up in the 90’s so Slipknot was really where it was for me. Steel Panther and us have played a million times together and we’re from the same town so we get to see each other all the time. We didn’t get to see them today but we are friends.” “You said you’re a sports fan, who’s your NFL team?” “The Raiders hands down… Oh are we fighting?”
Interview with HIM: It was the year 2005 and one of the greatest songs in the Rock genre was released with it’s dark lyrics and equally dark video “Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly”. I had the pleasure of asking Ville Valo aka the lead singer of the band HIM and best friend of Bam Margera on the story behind such a soul capturing song. “What inspired your biggest and best single, Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly?” “I think it was about immortality in some aspects. I read about souls and having the wings of a butterfly. It was about mortality and immortality and everything in between and it was a messy time in my life. I remember writing it in the beautiful sunset in the yard of the mansion where we recorded the album. I did a lot of stuff on why I really like going with the flow, sometimes it takes years to understand what you just wrote about but it’s usually more or less about ladies and my bad luck with them”.
Interview with Pop Evil by Matthew Vela
“Where did the inspiration for One Hundred Fifty Five come from?” “That’s a song that we wrote way back in the day when we were still doing cover songs, and still just touring Michigan before we actually got out into the open. It was one of those things where as a band we just felt like no matter what we did we were just kinda beating our heads against the wall. Trying to make it or break it like a lot of bands experience and felt like we were just going full throttle and the only thing that kept us going was the music.” “Where did the name Pop Evil come from?” “Pop Evil kinda reflects the guys in the band, like the diversity between the guys. Pop being one extreme and evil being the other. It also reflects our music too, Monster You Made is more of a ballad that is easier going like the pop side, and we also have our evil side like The Last Man Standing and Trenches. We wanna have that diversity to have to do anything versus just being one genre.” “How did you all meet?” “We were all in different bands but within the same area. We were within like an hour of Grand Rapids and were all in local bands and we sorta pick and chose guys from this band and that band and another band and slapped it together man.” “What advice would you give to upcoming bands?” “The best advice I could give is song writing. There’s a lot of bands I see on the road up and coming. They’ve got their look and their show looking great but the only thing lacking is the songs. That’s really what we all do this for you know, you write good songs and you just focus on good songs writing and stuff that people can relate too that either has a good message or really any message. As long as you do it in a good way it will catch on and rise up.” “What inspired your new album?” “There’s a lot of stuff that happened between the last album and this one. We switched labels, we went through changes in our line up, some band members quit, we had a band member get hurt and he was paralyzed for a little while after surgery. We’ve lost loved ones and so we had a lot of angst to get off our chest and that’s really where the inspiration was driven from and you can definitely hear it in the lyrics on this one.”
Interview with Gemini Syndrome: “How does it feel to be playing this weekend with bands like Megadeth, Avenge Sevenfold, etc.” “It feels really, really good. It’s an honor we got to play here last year. We opened up the first stage last year and now we get to open up the main stage this year. So things are progressing and this past year has been really good for us and this is a nice big good step in the right direction.” “What was it like all living together under the same roof?” “What do you think it was like? It’s good, it’s working out. We’re not home a lot so when we get home it’s pretty relaxed we all go to our corners and do our own thing to take a little break. It’s good, it was the way to go and we don’t regret anything.” “How did you all meet?” “We’re all transplants to L.A. we all came from other places.” “Where did you two come from specifically?” “I’m from Denver.” “I’m from Italy, I moved here 5 years ago.” “We met in L.A. and it was just like putting together a dream team. It was real obvious real quick. Within a month we were putting an album together and living together and we really put 100% in it. We made it happen, we scrambled we lived poor but we made it happen.” “You have a new song out tell us about it.” “We just released Stardust so request that on the radio! We don’t have a next big song picked out right now but we’re focusing our energy on this and we hope everyone loves it.” “Where did your inspiration come from for Stardust?” “Everything. We put it together with the attention of reaching every corner of what we sound like. We tried to condense it into one song and that’s how Stardust came about.” “What would you tell your fans reading this?” “Stay in school. Listen to your parents. Don’t do drugs, don’t get tattoos, tattoos are for bad guys.” “Coming from a guy covered head to toes in tattoos haha” “Just be careful out there, it’s not an easy world. I’m talking with my heart right now. Listen to your father and listen to your mother because they really are right.” “Unless they’re tying you in a dungeon or something then call the authorities.”
Interview with Upcoming Band: The Alpha Complex “What can fans expect for 2014 from The Alpha Complex?” “After Motograter broke up I wanted to focus on something very marketable with a heavy punch because that’s not the direction we were going with Moto and that’s the direction I wanted to go with. So first things first I made sure I was putting the right musicians in the right places to give me the kinda music I’m expecting out of my band. A lot of melody a lot of heavy grooves, really catchy hooks and big big guest vocals. I can’t release that yet but it’s a very well known vocalist and a lot of touring non stop.” “Will you be coming to Arizona?” “Absolutely coming to Arizona. Love Arizona, we used to play Chasers and The Clubhouse. Good people and great place for music.” “How did you know to form a band together or to pick those band members?” “Basically I scattered out for a while who I wanted to be in the band, I really wanted to make the right decisions. I knew if he was available, one of my best friends from a local band I had in Denver, if he was available I was gonna pick up a guitarist and he was so I moved him out here with my wife and I. And so he’s living out here with us, it’s a tight squeeze but it’s working. You’ve got to sacrifice for your music. The music comes from a lot of my inspirations so I want to make sure you’re a showman and able to really perform on stage.” “Where did your own personal musical inspiration come from?” “I’m a big fan of a lot of these bands that we’re seeing out here today at Aftershock. Motograter was obviously a big inspiration before I was even in it, because Ivan Moody was the original singer and he’s now singing for Five Finger Death Punch. Linkin Park and any of those bands who play something real that you can relate to and become a part of.” “What advice would you give to upcoming bands?” “You’ve got to be willing to sacrifice and throw it all away and give your life to it. Advice to the fans of these bands is be honest. If your friends band sucks tell them so it fixes their sound and they can become something great. You want them to fix their sound vs be crap and living on the streets thinking you sound good when you don’t. Work hard and do it yourself, I’m out here passing out 5,000 flyers because I’m striving to be something.” “How did you meet Ivan?” “I met Ivan when I was in some local bands in Denver. He’s a really cool dude, I actually joined Motograter after he left. I knew a friend who knew a friend and then I met Ivan a couple of times since then. He’s great inspiration to myself and bands who are up and coming too.”
Interview with Otherwise: “Where did the inspiration for Soldiers come from?” “It came from the fac that at one point in the summer of 2011 we thought about quitting. My brother and I had been at it for so long winning every band battle and opening up for everyone and we just didn’t know what to do and were banging out heads against the wall. But then we thought about the men and women of our military and what they go through and how they don’t give up they just keep fighting. So we used that inspiration to keep ourselves going and keep ourselves motivated. I guess it’s poetic justice that that ended up being the song that broke us into the national scene and we made history with it on satellite radio. Our cousin Ivan Patrick sings on the song he came in and recorded with us right before he passed away. So it’s a special song for us and were grateful that it’s special for so many people.” “For our military members reading this is there anything you’d like to say to them?” “All we can say is thank you. What you guys do, you guys are much braver human beings than we are and we just want to say thank you.” “Of all the places you’ve performed what is your favorite memory?” “We’re Vegas boys, all our favorite memories for the most part are at home. But there’s some really good ones. We played both rock on the ranges and Incubus invited us side stage to watch them perform and they’re one of our favorite bands.” “Who are some of your favorite bands to perform with?” “Oh man, we love playing with In This Moment especially me because we did a duet together which is called The Promise which was our first introduction to the radio and the nation for us, POD we’re on tour with right now. The first time my brother and I ever got in a mosh pit together was at a POD show in Vegas. Papa Roach is an amazing live band, we’re excited to see Megadeth.” “If there were something you could tell up and coming bands what would you tell them?” “Well Chris from In This Moment once told me don’t quit. Because if you quit you’ll never know. We took that advice and we went with it. So don’t quit and don’t suck.”
Axiom Grand Opening Weekend Review: A new venue opened up on the west side for the folks who want to enjoy music, but don't have the money or the gas to drive out to Tempe or Downtown Phoenix every weekend. Introducing Axiom Venue, started up by twin brothers Lance and Gavin Linderman to bring the music lovers of West Phoenix together. Axiom is located just off of Bell Rd from the 101, tucked away behind the Cracker Barrel and the car dealership. The venue serves as a church on Sunday mornings, with both religious and secular shows occupying the stage at night. You can expect food trucks in the parking lot supplying snacks and beverages, with no alcohol allowed to keep the allages shows alive. The Grand Opening Weekend took place October 1213 with shows on both nights. The evening I went to celebrate was October 12th, where I was graced with the musical presence of Ryne Norman, Saddles, Bentley, and The Cold Desert, all bands that reside on the west side and have supported the Lindermans in building this venue. Ryne Norman started the night strong. Never mind his musical talent; his songwriting talent is the spotlight of his set. For a young guy (and by young, I mean under 25 years old), he has the chops to perfect a catchy hook and melodies that make people dance and get the songs stuck in your head. My favorite song of his set was about his greatgrandmother, who his father went to for his candyandsoda, caffeineandsugar fix. The song is a bluesy, rockandroll song that stands out from the rest of his driving rock set. It sounds like you're listening to an old blues song from the 50's; like Fonze would punch the jukebox, flip up his collar as the song started, and grab some ponytailed, blueeyes darling by the waist and dance with her as Ryne Norman sang about his greatgrandmother. Weird, but that's what music doesit gets your imagination going.
The next band to take to the stage was Saddles, a synthrock band that has expanded from its folkAmericana roots in the past few years. They played songs from their latest album, Shell Art, that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head. One thing that captured my attention was the way frontman Charles Barth interacted with the audience between songs. He awkwardly invited people to purchase merch by stating "We so totes have stuff to sell." The crowd laughed and eventually made their way to the table after the set. I personally liked their songs "Cancer Dance" and "The Original" best. "Cancer Dance" has that nostalgic 80's dreamsynth that is so familiar, but not in Phoenix rock bands today. "The Original" engages the audience with a group chant at the end that is so catchy, it's no wonder they ended their set with that song. Bentley's set started off with frontman Micah Bentley performing two acoustic songs, both of which were beautiful in their raw nature. He invited the rest of the band onstage to play the rest of the set, which was punchier and more rockdriven than the previous bands. Micah told stories of their time on tour and introduced the songs clearly, instead of the usual "This next is called Blehhhaammmppphhh. I hope you enjoy it," that most bands are guilty of. My favorite song of theirs will always be "Let There Be Light", mostly because Micah belts out the word "light", that I imagine God belting it out on the first day: "Let there be liiiiiiiiiiiiiight!" It's a power song, that demands your attention. The night ended with The Cold Desert, starting their set with "Money". The song begins with vocals and a Rhodes piano: no countoff, no instrumental introduction. Just Matt Klassen singing and Cody Nelson accompanying. After taking the summer off to rewrite material and play out of town, the boys came back to the west side prepared to perform wholeheartedly. Matt engaged the audience with his dancing and stepping down to sing to the audience. They even played a new song for the audience that was much anticipated. Music aside, the atmosphere of the venue made the show even better. I stepped outside between sets to talk to friends and get fresh air, because the weather was so beautiful and the candlelit tables added a more intimate ambience. The venue is simple: no seating, no bar, no age separation. Simplicity is just what you need for an allages venue. You can catch the next show at Axiom Venue on November 22 with Rare Monk.

Making a top 10 list of horror movies is no easy task. There's so many horror genre films, it's hard to pick the best so I decided to release my choices for this top 10. These are picked by just me as a fan. 1. Psycho (1960) A great Alfred Hitchcock classic that revolutionized horror films. I first saw it through a remake as a child on tv and I admit it wasn't as good. It wasn't until I watch the original I realized that it's way better than the Gus Van Sant remake. Oh, and the shower scene... That was epic. I recommend it for a horror film fan or a fan of just movies. 2. Friday the 13th the title says it all. Jason voorhees is what made the movie a great, legendary horror film. That film revolutionized the slasher genre that spawned many throughout the 1980s and beyond. This makes anyone think twice before going to the camp for the vacation in the summer. 3. A Nightmare on Elm Street Another classic slasher horror film. What separates the film from the rest is the main villain, Freddy Krueger played by the one and only Robert Englund. Whenever someone dreams, he comes by and kills anyone who falls asleep. Truly a trip, but awesomeness in its own right. 4. Dawn of the Dead (the remake) Its hard for me to decide which ones better: the original or the remake. But I decided to go with the remake. Sure it wasn't as innovative as the Romero classic, but this film focused strictly on horror and terror. For this, I appreciate it even more. 5. The Shining A Kubrick classic. Even though it didn't follow Stephen King's book well, but it's more crazy and horrifying and anything else I've seen at the time. Jack Nicholson can do no wrong as the hotel carekeeper who lost his mind and trying to kill his family. Great stuff without a doubt. 6. Audition this horror movie from Japan exceed many expectations and then some. The first time I watched it, it was the most unbelievable, crazy, and more horrific then any other Japanese film I saw. The scene where the guy gets tied up in the sack definitely got me sick. Its definitely interesting to watch for just once. 7. Saw When I first saw that movie, my reaction was, "Wow, that's an original". I was absolutely right because its nothing like I ever seen in any horror film in existence. Two men are trapped in a room by a psychotic cancer patient with a puppet, trying to find a way out even if it means cutting through feet. I know it's something crazy and unexpected, but with a film like this, it's what people expect and more. 8. The Ring A scary film based on the Japanese horror classic, "Ringu". One thing that struck me was the plot in the film. A woman discovered a VHS tape and it brought a terrifying message that if anyone watches, she or she dies. Truly a mind tripper of a film and this remake really got it right. 9. Halloween Two words: timeless terror. Michael Myers is definitely no expecting to this classic horror gem and face mask resembling William shatner was unforgettable. After he killed his sister, he escaped the mental institution and started killing everybody in sight. A very horrifying gem that every horror fan should see and add it to the collection. 10. American Psycho I first saw it back in 2000 when I was 13 year old kid and watched it on TV and it was a crazy mind trip. What hit me was when Patrick Bateman talked about music to his victims, it sent chills down my spine and scared me. Christian bale did a tremendous job on bringing this evil character from the Bret Easton Ellis book to life and his look is simply scary. Although its not the best horror movie, it seriously brought many scars and chills on everything.
Interview with DJ Chris Rockstar What inspired you to be a dj? I was raised on Classical Music when I was a kid.My Dad played it all the time to the point that i got sick and tired of listening to it...Ha足ha.. As I was growing up, I came to appreciate music in general..I played the piano and the drums and I was also in the school choir...Music has been apart of my life from the beginning so It made perfect sense to get into the deejay industry.. My inspiration to be a DJ is because I LOVE MUSIC and I LOVE TO MAKE PEOPLE DANCE AND HAVE A GOOD TIME... I've heard Las Vegas is a hard place to live in with all it's sinful like taste. Do you like living there and if so what's your favorite part of living there? Living in Las Vegas has its perks..Its cheap to live here..Me coming from Hawaii, you can actually go to different states as when I lived on an island, you can't really do that... I don't gamble like a lot of people do here..Do I like living here..No,not really.I miss Hawaii..I mean who wouldn't..Do I wanna move back? HELL YES I DO... You have a US tour coming up, can you explain more about it and will you be coming to Arizona? Timelapse Artist Management is setting up my first US Tour next year (Spring/Summer 2014)..We will be doing between 20足50 or more dates in that time frame..Its called RATED R SUPERSTAR and its gonna kick ass..It takes a lot of work to put this tour together and I have great help from Andrew Lazar (my manager), Nicholas Salazar (Trinity Las Vegas Record Label CEO),Jonathan Jackson (Imass Music CEO)...We have support from people from Ultra Records,Blackhole Records and Spinning Record artists just to name a few...I am hoping to do some show in Arizona What's the hardest part of being a dj and what's the most satisfying part? The hardest part of being a DJ to me is building me brand so people get to know me and what I am all about.Your brand is so important to your career..A lot of hours on my social networks and a lot pf promotion..A LOT... The satisfying part is watching people dance to my produced tracks, coming to my show to see ME...Buying my music, becoming my FAN and seeing my FANS get excited when I am coming to there city to play If there were one song you could ban ever being played again what would it be? Ha足ha...this is a funny question...I think there are some songs that are apart of our culture and these mold our society.. I believe all songs have a place in our culture in one way or another
Is there any advice you can give to other up and coming djs to be as great as yourself? To anyone that wants to be a DJ or a Music Producer, here is my advice to them...DON'T DO WHAT OTHERS DO..DO YOU...BE REAL TO YOURSELF..FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS..AND PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE. HAVE PEOPLE IN YOUR CIRCLE THAT YOU TRUST AND BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU DO. I appreciate that you say that I am great but I just do what I do. I am still here because I know what it takes to make it in this industry. I keep following my dreams and keep pushing to make things happen. I have been in this industry since 1992 and I have been a music producer since 2002 so I do know what it takes to make it in this industry. Where can our readers find your mixes? You can find my music all over the web... My mixes are on http://www.mixcloud.com/chrisroxstar/ My original productions are on https://soundcloud.com/chrisroxstar http://www.beatport.com/track/biggunsanthemfeatmciseeoriginal mix/4141793 https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/pulsesingle/id711734025 Is there anything you'd like to say specifically to us here at Epic Entertainment Magazine about yourself or your experience as a dj? I wanna thank Victoria for inviting me to do this article in Epic Entertainment Magazine..I wanna thank all of my family, friends, and fans (you know who you all are) for all of your support through the GOOD,BAD and the UGLY.. To all of my haters..haha..yes I have those too,I APPRECIATE YOU ALL...KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO BECAUSE YOU ARE JUST GIVING ME MORE DRIVE TO SUCCEED..
