TIPS FOR A STRONG YEAR-END FINISH The end of the year always has a kind of wind-down feeling to it, even though our schedules might get a little busier. With companies closing their financial year, Christmas-related projects and the inevitable socially distanced office parties, your days might start looking hectic. However, after a year of staying on your game despite the thunderbolts 2020 bowled us, it’s perfectly understandable if you feel like you’re running out of steam. Here’s how we think you can ensure you end this year in good form and hit the ground running in the year ahead. STAY FOCUSED – Tis the season for lots of tight deadlines, many last-minute requests and even more meetings. One way to keep all that activity from getting overwhelming is the use of planning tools. Your smartphone can be your very own personal assistant if used properly. Now might be a good time to familiarize yourself with the calendar, tasks, notes and google assistant apps. Not tech savvy? A planner diary and a handy notebook can do the same job. Organizing your work to-dos in one place makes them more manageable and will help you stay on task. BALANCE YOUR TIME – It’s common to have responsibilities from the family-andfriends side of your life need to be juggled with home-office hours that exceed the standard 9-to-5. Scheduling your personal activities like work meetings ensures

you’ll have time for them. We recommend spreading your personal activities out over the season, so you do a little each day/night instead of going all out in a single night or over a weekend. This way you’ll benefit from healthy work breaks while having enough energy to maintain you edge in the office. PLAN AHEAD – The end of the year is a great time to plan for the upcoming year. If you find yourself with some extra time as 2020 winds down, use it to make a plan for January. If you find more time, plan for the first quarter. Your team will appreciate the foresight, your boss will take note of your initiative and you’ll save time with a practical map to follow. Instead of returning from the holidays trying to figure out your next move, you’ll come back ready to get going. Whatever comes your way this end-of-year, if you want to avoid burnout or boredom, be guided by two things that are a good idea all year round – moderation and planning. They don’t sound very exciting, but these two skills will serve you well in the midst of all the work and play that comes with the season. Use them wisely and you’ll be able to enjoy yourself, while staying on top of your game at work.
