SYNOPSIS Madame de la Haltière and her daughters Noémie and Dorothée prepare for the Royal Ball. The household servants and Madame’s husband Pandolfe are unhappy with how she treats everyone. Pandolfe is very upset at how his new wife acts towards his daughter Lucette (Cendrillon) and is saddened to leave her at home during the ball.
Cendrillon must hurry away before midnight and loses a glass slipper along the way. She arrives home before Madame, her father and stepsisters. The women are angry about this mysterious women and their foiled attempts to win the Prince’s affection. Pandolfe is upset by their cruelty and regrets leaving his farm with his daughter. He reassures her they can return there.
Madame and her daughters are dressed and ready to be presented to the King. Everyone departs and Cendrillon continues cleaning and sings a lullaby her mother used to sing to her as a child.
Cendrillon is distressed and wanders into the forest, as does the Prince who is upset to have lost his love. The Fairy Godmother overhears their cries and they beg to be released from their sadness.
A Fairy Godmother appears and transforms Cendrillon’s rags into a beautiful ball gown with glass slippers. She insists Cendrillon returns home by midnight.
As Cendrillon wakes, a Herald announces a procession and asks all noblewomen to try on the glass slipper. The Fairy Godmother appears and reveals Cendrillon as the mysterious lady. She is embraced by all.
At the ball, the Prince must choose a wife. Upon seeing Cendrillon, he instantly falls in love with her.
