Through the use for the arts (performing, Visual and written arts), as a therapeutic activity, this scheme encourages visitors to look af- ter their mental health. In conjunction with this, each spaces aims to stim- ulate the users’ sense through the use textures, smells, sounds and sight.

SENSORY SPACE Sensory space (zen garden) can reduce stree, improve focus, and develop a sense of well-being. They also emphasis the principles of naturalness, simplicity, and austerity.

View of nature viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. CANOPY OF FLIGHT A BIRD ’S HAVEN The brief of this project was to Create a lightweight aviary on city of Leicester’s old Bowstring railway bridge, which was demolished in the act of regeneration of Leicester’s Bede island, resurrecting the forgotten iconic railway bridge.

The project benefits the city of Leicester and its residents as the idea of retrofitting the old, abandoned bridge brings life back to the region as well as attracts more visitors to the city providing more jobs to residents. The design also integrates a community garden space and outdoor sitting area by the riverbank for the public use, promoting community interaction and building a better healthier community.

VOLUME IS SHAVED DOWN TO MINIMISE SPACING TAKEN UP BY EACH INDIVIDUAL UNITS WHEN POSITIONING ON SITE

a modular environmentally friendly live -work unit. ROOF IS ANGLED DOWN ALLOW FOR EFFICIENT SHEDDING OF RAIN AND SNOW.

The brief of this project was to design a modular environmentally friendly live-work unit, tackling the theme of Spatial justice. This project was to address the ongoing challenge of ‘Dark factories’ operating within the City of Leicester and the subsequent risk arising from the unsafe cramped work- ing

OPENINGS FOR VENTILATION

conditions within the clothing sweatshop organisations. Furthermore, workers at these factories are underpaid (£3-£4.50 per hour) for their work.

In response to this localised urban phenomenon, a 15 square metres CLT construction is proposed to support both living and working space for workers of these organisations, whereby works are not exposed to high risk working environment as well as will support them as it is economical to build and run. Each unit can accommodate 2 individuals work working space at the front of the unit and living space at the rare, along with a sleeping area on a mezzanine floor acceptable by a ladder. This off-grid uses rainwater collected in tanks underneath the dwelling as water source and solar panel along with integrated concentrated solar panel to power as well as heat the unit. 18

COMPETITION

The driving force behind the brief of the design competition was to combine ecology and art, tasked with designing a bat, bird or bug box with maximum length of 2 feets. Designed to fit a small colony of 8-10 brown long eared bat. The bat ‘Hotel’ took the shape of a hexagon that can be mounted on the side of a tree, with hanging plants on its side attracting bugs which would serve as food for the bats occupying the box. The form of the box design was inspired my stalactites, the box is designed to be entered through bottom openings, a way to minimising natural light from entry the interior of the box. Each individual wooden planks that slots together to makes up the whole form of the bat ‘hotel’ has small ridges on the inner side to allow bats to climb up on and hang from whilst occupying it.
