Alfond Challenge
THE HAROLD ALFOND® FOUNDATION
Harold Alfond was a loyal fan and generous benefactor of the UMaine Black Bears until his death in 2007. Mr. Alfond had a special passion for football, and was a frequent visitor to the sky box in the arena that bears his name. The Harold Alfond® Foundation continues to carry out Mr. Alfond’s philanthropic legacy, and has again made a generous challenge grant to benefit the University of Maine’s football program.
The Harold Alfond Foundation will match gifts to UMaine football on a 1:1 basis up to a total of $250,000 if specific terms and conditions are met. We are counting on generous alumni and friends to help us meet this challenge. Your gift can help us meet a variety of needs, including expenses related to recruitment, team travel, and equipment.
This is the sixth year that the Foundation has made this challenge to UMaine; we are proud to partner with the Harold Alfond Foundation to make a difference for our football program, our university, and our state.
TAKE THE CHALLENGE AND MAKE A GIFT TODAY
• Gifts of cash and marketable securities are eligible for the
Foundation match. Give online at GoBlackBears.com — it’s secure and convenient. Gifts of $1,000+ qualify you for membership within the UMaine President’s Club. Donors whose lifetime giving to UMaine is at least $25,000 are eligible for membership within the prestigious Stillwater Society. • Gifts from UMaine football alumni are especially welcome and important to meeting the conditions of the Alfond Challenge. The
Foundation is seeking gifts from at least 255 football alumni before the end of this calendar year. • Participation matters. Encourage classmates, teammates, family members, neighbors, and business associates to support Black
Bear football. • For more information, contact: seth.woodcock@maine.edu;

CHEER ON THE BLACK BEARS
• Come to our games and cheer on the Black Bears. The Alfond
Foundation is very committed to helping UMaine create a terrific game day experience for our students and our community.
• Tailgate with us. Thousands of tourists visit our state to enjoy autumn in Maine. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to Orono to see our beautiful campus on a crisp, fall day.
• If you played football for UMaine, you can help us by making a gift and mentoring our current scholar athletes. We always welcome our former Black Bears back to campus. Whether you want to speak to a class about your career success, or want to give an inspirational talk in our locker room, we’d love to hear from you. We also invite you to consider hosting an event for other UMaine alumni and friends in your home, business, or club.
