THE BIG WEST Letter from Big West Commissioner Dan Butterly Dear Big West Basketball Fans, Welcome to Henderson, Nevada and the 2022 Hercules Tires Big West Basketball Championships presented by The Hawaiian Islands! The Big West excited to begin a new chapter in the proud history of Big West basketball as the tip off the first sporting event in the history of The Dollar Loan Center. The Big West is proud to call this facility and this community home and we are thankful for the partnership and support we’ve received from the Vegas Golden Knights and Henderson Silver Knights organizations, the City of Henderson, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and the Henderson Department of Economic Development & Tourism. The tremendous effort they have all put forth to make these two championships a great experience for our student-athletes, coaches and fans alike is appreciated. Since we left Las Vegas at the conclusion of the 2021 Big West Basketball Championships, we have accomplished several new and exciting initiatives aimed at increasing fan engagement and elevating The Big West brand. The programs specifically related to basketball include: 1.

Following an extensive research initiative that involved input from more than 2,200 Big West fans, coaches, student-athletes, CEO’s, administrators, sponsors and members of the media, we created a new brand for The Big West and a new statement of purpose, “to empower every student-athlete in competition and in life and to unite our community through championship experiences.” Our new tagline, “Only The Bold” will guide The Big West in a new era of NCAA athletics.

2.

One of the key findings from our research was the shared desire to improve the standing of Big West basketball on the national stage. To elevate The Big West, we have hired a new Director of Championships & Basketball Operations who will work with our administrators, coaches, players and partners to do just that.

3.

We forged a new television agreement with ESPN that increases the number of Big West telecasts a ten-fold. Now, every Big West men’s and women’s basketball game will be televised on ESPN networks and, for the first time in history, all Big West championships will be televised on ESPN+.

4.

A new agreement with Spectrum SportsNet created The Big West Game of the Week. This partnership increased the linear coverage of men’s basketball and boosted the visibility of our member institutions in Southern and Central California, Hawaii and Western Nevada.

5.

In addition to our key presenting partners, Hercules Tires and The Hawaiian Islands, we’re excited to welcome new partners including Mr. Fries Man, UPTIME Energy, Dollar Loan Center, the City of Henderson and other local partners to The Big West. You will see their branding and activations throughout the event and we thank them for their generous support. Please support the sponsors of your conference whenever possible.

This is an exciting time to be a part of The Big West, and there are many new initiatives in the works that will continue to propel all 11 institutions forward. Finally, thank you for your support and attendance here in Henderson as well as in your local market. I hope that you have a great time at the championships and will bring even more friends to experience all that The Big West has to offer in the years to come.

Enjoy the games! Dan Butterly Commissioner, The Big West
