MEN’S COACH PAT SKERRY When Pat Skerry was announced as the 13th men’s basketball head coach at Towson University on April 5, 2011, he took over a program that had endured 15-straight losing seasons. The gritty Medford, Massachusetts native has revitalized the Towson men’s basketball program, leading the Tigers to consistent success in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). In addition, under Skerry’s leadership, Towson has the highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the CAA. Towson enters the 2022-23 season having won at least 18 games in seven seasons in the last 10 years, Skerry led Towson to the program’s first-ever CAA regular season title and berth into the National Invitation Tournament during the 2021-22 season. The Tigers finished 25-9 and 15-3 in the CAA, with three players earned all-league honors including Cam Holden and Nicolas Timberlake on the First Team. It was the winningest Division I and CAA season in program history. Skerry was named a finalist for the 2022 Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award and 2022 Hugh Durham Award. In summer 2021, Skerry was selected as a court coach for the USA Men’s U19 World Cup Team, being one of three coaches across the country selected for this role. He assisted the U19 coaching staff with on-court drills and scrimmages during the camp sessions on the campus of TCU. That team went on to win the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup in July. The Tigers enjoyed a strong 2019-20 campaign that resulted in 19 victories and a third-place finish in the CAA for the third time in five years. The Tigers won a program record seven CAA road games and had a seven-game winning streak during the month of January. Brian Fobbs and Allen Betrand finished in the top-11 in the CAA in scoring and earned All-CAA Second Team and Third Team respectively while Nicolas Timberlake was the CAA Sixth Man of the Year. Skerry, who won his 100th career game as Towson’s head coach on Nov. 21 following a win over Penn, was the recipient of the 2017 Gene Bartow award, which recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions to the game.

After winning just one game during his first season, Skerry led the Tigers to an 18-13 record in 2012-13. Not only was it the first winning season since 1995-96, it was also the largest single-season turnaround in NCAA Division I history. Skerry was selected as the CAA Coach of the Year: he became the first coach to receive that honor since Terry Truax earned back-to-back Big South Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1992-93 and 1993-94. The success continued during the 2013-14 season as the Tigers won a Division I record 25 games. This includes winning their first two postseason games as a Division I program in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The 2013-14 season saw the Tigers end the year ranked 84th in the RPI, marking the first time Towson finished the season in the Top 100. The Tigers also received their first votes in the national polls in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. Skerry has used his platform as a head coach and teamed up with Tom Herrion to start Autism Awareness in college basketball. What started as two guys with an idea has turned into a national event where hundreds of coaches wear the prominent blue puzzle piece pin. The effort put forth by both Skerry and Herrion were recognized as the duo was honored with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Guardians of the Game Service Award. Skerry served as an assistant for two seasons at the College of Charleston. In addition, Skerry spent five years with league teams William & Mary (200003) and Northeastern University (1998-2000). In 1996, Skerry became the second-youngest head coach in the nation at the age of 26 when he was selected to guide the Curry basketball program. During his two-year stop with the Colonels, he led Curry to its first winning season in five years. Skerry played collegiately at Tufts from 1989-92 where he was a two-time team captain and garnered All-New England honors. As a point guard, he recorded a school-record 650 assists during his career - a mark that still ranks as the 17th best in NCAA Division III history. Skerry earned both of his collegiate degrees from Tufts, earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1992 and his Master’s Degree in education in 1995. Pat and his wife, Kristen, have two sons, Ryan and Owen. W W W.T O W S O N T I G E R S . C O M 7

W O M E N ’S C O A C H L A U R A H A R P E R Laura Harper, who helped the University of Maryland win a national championship as a player, was named Towson University’s Women’s Basketball head coach on April 20, 2022. “Laura Harper embodies all that Towson Athletics is looking for in the next leader of our women’s basketball program,” Director of Athletics Steve Eigenbrot said. “Her background and understanding of this area uniquely positioned her to build on the amazing foundation we have in place. We have found an excellent, high-energy leader in Laura that represents a thrilling next chapter for this program.” “I am ecstatic to accept this position as the Towson women’s basketball head coach,” said Harper. “I think the championship caliber culture that was instilled by Coach Rich is admirable and coming from the leadership that Brenda Frese taught me at the University of Maryland, I know what it takes to win. I am so excited that this group of young student-athletes are ready and prepared to continue their journey of success. I am eager, I am excited and I am ready to be the leader that believes and trusts in them.” Harper comes to Towson after a two-year stint as head coach at Coppin State University. In 2021-22, Harper guided the Eagles to one of the largest turnarounds in the nation and earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Coach of the Year honors in her second season at the helm. The Eagles won a school-record six games against Division I non-conference opponents, had a six-game win streak midway through the year and had their first winning campaign (15-13) since the 2013-14 season. In the four seasons before her arrival, Coppin went a combined 22-95. Jaia Alexander was named the 2021-22 MEAC Player of the Year while Aliyah Lawson also earned First-Team All-MEAC honors. Prior to taking over at Coppin, Harper worked as an assistant coach at five NCAA Division I institutions and was head coach at one of the top collegiate preparatory schools in Florida. Harper won 18 games as the head coach at Montverde Academy in 2019-20 with a team where five seniors earned NCAA Division I scholarships. From 2017-19, Harper assisted the women’s basketball team at the University of Florida for two seasons. Under her tutelage, Paulina Hersler and Haley Lorenzen had career years as seniors. Harper spent the 2016-17 season at George Washington University under Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame player Jennifer Rizzotti. That season, the Colonials won an

Atlantic 10 regular season championship and advanced to the WNIT. Post players Lexi Martins and Caira Washington received all-conference honors. From 2014-16, she worked as an assistant coach at High Point University. The Panthers won 20 games during the 2014-15 season and advanced to the Big South championship game. Stacia Robertson was named the Big South Player of the Year and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American before going on to play overseas. Harper spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant at Loyola University Maryland. Immediately before going to Loyola, Harper spent the summer of 2013 coaching at American University after finishing her five-year professional career. As a sophomore at Maryland, Harper led the Terrapins to the 2006 National Championship. She received the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player award after scoring a then career-best 24 points in the semifinal victory over North Carolina. Two days later, Harper recorded 16 points in the title win against Duke. While in College Park, Harper scored 1,407 points, grabbed 873 rebounds, and broke the school record with 198 blocks. In her senior year, she was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American and Third Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection after averaging 14.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She was a Naismith Award finalist during her junior season. On February 5, 2009, Harper’s No. 15 jersey was raised to the rafters at Xfinity Center. Following her collegiate career, Harper was the 10th overall selection of the Sacramento Monarchs in the 2008 WNBA Draft. In two seasons, she averaged 5.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 67 appearances. In her rookie campaign, she ranked in the top 10 among first-year players in field goal percentage (5th- .474), rebounds (6th4.0) and blocks (6th-0.6) plus was 13th in points (5.5). Harper spent the next three seasons overseas- playing in Italy, Turkey and Russia before beginning her coaching career. In addition to her collegiate success, Harper was a member of the U21 national team, where she helped the United States to a gold medal at the 2007 FIBA U21 World Championship in Russia. She was a starter for the 2004 USA U18 team which won the gold medal at the FIBA Americas Championship. During that tournament she averaged 12.8 points, while shooting 63 percent from the floor. Originally from Elkins Park, Pa., Harper earned a communications degree from Maryland. Her father, Haviland Harper, played basketball at George Washington from 1973-76.

S T E V E E I G E N B R OT, D I R E C TO R O F AT H L E T I C S Towson University President Kim Schatzel announced that Dr. Steven Eigenbrot would join TU as its Director of Athletics starting in March 2022. Eigenbrot joins TU from the University of South Carolina, where he served as the Deputy Athletics Director. As Director of Athletics, Eigenbrot reports directly to President Schatzel, serving on the President’s Cabinet and leading TU’s NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program, including the approximately 100 staff members who support 19 sports teams with more than 600 studentathletes. Eigenbrot was selected after a nationwide search, co-chaired by the former Vice Chair of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Barry Gossett and former Chair of TU’s Board of Visitors Fran Soistman ‘79. “I am very thankful to the co-chairs and members of the search committee for their important contributions to the success of this national search for the next leader of Towson University Athletics,” President Schatzel says. “And I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Steve, his wife, Erin, and baby daughter, Sutton, to Towson University. Steve is a proven leader who shares TU’s commitment to excellence in the classroom, in the community and in competition for our student-athletes. I have every confidence he will hit the ground running as he works with TU Athletics’ coaches, staff, student-athletes, university partners, alumni and supporters to strengthen TU’s position as a premier midmajor collegiate athletic program. It’s indeed a great day to be a Tiger!” Gossett adds: “Steve’s resume speaks for itself, and in getting to know him in the past few weeks, he’s the right choice to lead Towson Athletics. Coming from a major SEC program, but with a knowledge of Maryland and the region, he’s poised to make Towson University a destination for talented student-athletes, coaches and staff, and a home for championships for years to come.” At the University of South Carolina, Eigenbrot served in various leadership roles over 12 years. Most recently, he served as Deputy Director of Athletics, overseeing fundraising, ticketing and a variety of facilities projects. Prior to that, he was Executive Associate Athletics Director for Development and CEO of the Gamecock Club, which raised funds to support student-athletes. He was the primary

39 2 0 2 2 - 2 3 T I G E R B A S K E T B A L L

administrator for men’s basketball, baseball and both Gamecock golf programs from 2019-22. “I am extremely honored to lead TU Athletics and very grateful for the confidence President Schatzel and the search chairs have placed in me. I started my career in athletics about 20 years ago here in Maryland and I could not think of a better opportunity for our family to return to the area given Towson’s leadership and the future of competitive excellence that awaits us,” Eigenbrot says. “I am excited to get to work, building on the strong foundation that exists here at TU and collaborating with the array of stakeholders across the Towson and greater Baltimore communities.” University of South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner adds: “Towson University is getting an outstanding administrator, dedicated leader and a terrific person in Steve Eigenbrot to lead their athletics department. Steve did a tremendous job here at Carolina in our fundraising and facility development areas. He built great relationships with coaches and student-athletes as a sport administrator and played a critical role on our leadership team. I wish the best for the Eigenbrot family during this next step in Steve’s career.” Eigenbrot joined South Carolina in 2010 as the Assistant Director of Major Gifts. Recently, he directed $22.5 million in renovations to Williams-Brice Stadium, the largest project at the stadium in university history. He also led the $248 million Garnet Way Campaign and fundraising for the $50 million Cyndi and Kenneth Long Family Football Operations Center. Soistman adds “Steve’s experience in leading key, strategic initiatives that leveraged alumni and philanthropy stood out during this search. I’m confident that his combination of experience, energy and leadership skills will help our student-athletes win both on the field and in the classroom, and prepare them for success throughout their lives.” Prior to South Carolina, Eigenbrot directed the annual fund for University of Nevada-Las Vegas Athletics. He holds a doctorate in higher education leadership from UNLV, a masters in sport administration and business administration from Ohio University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. He’s a native of southern Pennsylvania.

SECU ARENA SECU Arena at Towson University is a 5,200seat venue for athletics, sporting events, concerts, commencements and more. Four Tiger athletics teams compete in this facility, including men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. The facility enhances Towson University’s campus and connection to the community by creating new opportunities to host events for students, neighbors and residents throughout Baltimore and the state of Maryland. It is the current home of the Baltimore Blast of the Major Arena Soccer League. The 117,000-square-foot arena opened in fall 2013. It was awarded LEED Gold certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use, in addition to a variety of other sustainable features.
