Mark Lawson’s company is a pioneer in development and management

Exciting new project for MDCI Mark Lawson, the founder of MDCI, is delighted to announce that this project management company has been chosen by famous Italian restaurant chain Da Bruno to control and manage the development of their new restaurant project in Mijas. MDCI have been based on the Costa del Sol since 1999 and have been responsible for the development of 41 projects of all sizes, from individual villa refurbishments to wholesale resort and hotel projects for Marriott and La Cala Golf. Two elements are central to the company's philosophy: completion of projects on time and within budget. MDCI is justifiably proud of its record, having delivered 2,300 dwellings, achieved 35 million euros in savings for its clients and never having delivered a project even one day over schedule. For the Da Bruno project, MDCI will now be responsible for overall control of the design, interior decoration and construction as well as the purchase and installation of specialist equipment areas in the kitchens, laboratories and storage areas, all to the highest standards that this top quality restaurant chain embodies. Mark explains that MDCI will manage the budget, control the bidding and contracts, de-

New extension doubles the size of municipal library The Municipal Library in the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre officially opened its newly expanded premises to the public on Monday. The two new halls (named 'Antonia Guerrero' and 'María Zambrano'), which have doubled the size of the library, include 112 new study places, more than 3,000 new reference books, over 100 new specialist

journals, 12 new internet stations, and an international section. A spokesman for the Library has confirmed that the additional space will also eventually allow for the creation of an extensive digital and paper archive centre for the municipality. The 385 square metre-facilities are found on the second floor of the Cultural Centre.

The refurbishment and, in some parts, the construction of the Paseo Marítimo (‘promenade’) that will connect Marbella and San Pedro de Alcántara is “progressing well,” according to the Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, who visited the site last weekend. The works, which include improvements to the pedestrian pathway from Coral Beach to the mouth of the Rio Verde, a new car park, and a footbridge over and the Guadaiza River, are being financed jointly by the Junta de Andalucía’s ‘Plan Qualifica’ initiative and the Town Hall. The construction of the footbridge is now possible after the Town Hall reached an agreement with the community association of Urbanization Los Pinos.

‘City of Knowledge’ gets the green light Following two years of negotiations, the Antonia Guerrero Foundation (which was established to manage the land which was left to the municipality by the Nadal-Guerrero family) has reached an agreement to start financing the building of the ‘Ciudad del Conocimiento’ (City of Knowledge) development, which will be located in the Saladavieja district. Having sold plots of land in La Lobilla area, the Foundation now has the resources to move the project forward. The ‘City of Knowledge,’ which has been designed by Manuel Toharia, the director of the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum in Valencia, will be a high-level educational facility focusing particularly on culture, languages, technology and communication.

Calls for San Pedro tunnel petition The Deputy Mayor of San Pedro, Miguel Troyano, has called for local residents to set up a petition demanding the Ministry of Development complete the San Pedro Tunnel on schedule, and provide a detailed timeline of when each section will be finished. In a statement, Troyano claimed that before the project was 'paralysed' there were more than 250 workers on site, and now there are just 25. “It is completely inadequate,” he said. Work was halted on the 60 million euro-project in July following cutbacks in central Government funding. This has since been over-turned. The tunnel will allow traffic on the A-7 motorway to run underneath the centre of San Pedro to help ease congestion. Félix Romero, from the Town Hall, says: “Not more than half a month ago, the PSOE held a press conference saying that it would use all the Government’s resources to move this project forward.” In response, the PSOE says the Town Hall is “looking for artificial controversies.”
