The ancient Mayans were very tuned into celestial cycles. They were brilliant mathematicians and astronomers and they have left so many evidences of a very sophisticated astronomy. They Mayans have also created an intricate calendar system that tracks cycles tens and thousands of years. They used about 20 calendars but the one that has raised all concern is on the 2012 Mayan calendar which is also known as the long count calendar which tracks world ages. Occurring world age began on August 11, 3114 B.C and end on Dec. 21, 2012. The idea of a world age is that there is a big cycle of time and that represents one chapter or phase that humanity passes through. The Mayans wrote out their calendar as a series of dots and line. A modern day calendar would look like an odometer wherein the smaller sub-cycle reset before the larger cycles begin counting up. The long count 2012 Mayan Calendar basically consists of 5 levels. You have the day cycle, the 20 day, the 360 day cycle, and the 720 day cycle which is just under 20 years and the larger cycles which are just under 400 years. It takes 13 batons to complete a full long cycle which spans over 5,125 years. Clearly the Mayans choose to end their 13 batons cycle on Dec. 21, 2012. For the Mayans, it's an intentional placement. The reason has to do with this are astronomical alignment wherein the December solstice sun comes into alignment with dark rift in the Milky Way. The dark rift as the Mayan called it is a band of dust which runs along the center of the Milky Way. There is just w whole complex of meanings that are attributed to the dark rift and the 2012 Mayan calendar doomsday. Scientists and astronomers have cared about the 2012 Mayan calendar because in the past their calendar has accurately predicted on wide range of natural cycles such as solar eclipses and the movements of planets over thousands of years. The 2012 Mayan calendar is a fascination system of time keeping. It is the single most accurate system of time keeping known to humankind until the 20th century. So just what will happen when we get to that time and to the end of this world age. Were the Mayans tried to send us a message and if so what warnings does that message gives us? Are we all on a schedule to meet our final days on earth? Knowing the 2012 Mayan calendar is about to be fulfilled, there has been continued uprising of emotions and doubts as well as fears. All these inevitable human emotions arise out of uncertainty whether or not the doomsday of the 2012 Mayan calendar is true. Needless to say we must be prepared about the coming days.
