Akyver®
Akyver® is a light and impact resistant insulating polycarbonate glazing. The 4, 6, 8, 10 mm depth sheets are available in twin wall form, 10 mm in 4 walls, 16, 20 and 25 mm in 7 walls, 32 mm in 8 walls.
Akyver Sun Type® Thanks to their special antiultraviolet treatment by coextrusion, Akyver Sun Type® sheets are highly suitable for all outside applications. The homogeneity of the UV absorption layer provides: • a long term protection • very even distribution of anti-UV layer • a smooth surface • no risk of splintering when the sheets are bent.
This treatment ensures excellent weatherproofing as well as protection against yellowing and loss of strength over the years. The treated surface which is to be exposed to sunlight is covered by a blue printed film and marked with a band. Technical approval CSTB GS 6 (other countries on request) Test report N° GM/95-44 concerning bent sheets.
Guarantee Akyver Sun Type® offers a double guarantee for the sheets of min. 6 mm: Guarantee of properties (valid within the EEC) • 10 year full guarantee - loss of light transmission limited to 6% - increase of yellow index of the translucent sheets limited to 10% - stable mechanical properties • 5 year guarantee against hail This guarantee applies only to sheets which have not suffered harmful effects of extraneous chemicals. A noncomprehensive list of the compatible chemicals with polycarbonate can be provided on demand. This list may be updated without notice from time to time. For any enquiry please contact us.
Technical information Applications
Akyver®
Uses The Akyver® sheets have been specially designed for indoor use: false ceilings, partitions and panelling. The Akyver Sun Type® sheets with special anti-ultraviolet treatment are suitable for outdoor use: - glazing of industrial, sports or agricultural buildings - roofing - veranda covering - skylights vaults - cladding panels - glass roof constructions - shed roofs - greenhouses - conservatories. The Akyver Confort Plus® (fig. 1) sheets, besides their anti-ultraviolet treatment, are coextruded with a special coating on the outside which reduces the quantity of transmitted solar energy inside the glazed buil-
dings by decreasing the diffusion of the near infra-red rays. The Akyver Dropless® (fig. 2) sheets are coated on their internal surface, which reduces condensation and maintains the level of light transmission. They are recommended for verandas, greenhouses and swimming pool coverings. The Akyver Sign sheets are particularly suitable for advertising panels or signs.
Thickness According to Application Depending on use, we recommend the following thicknesses: • 4 mm: indoor panelling and ceilings • 4 and 6 mm Akyver Sign: Advertising panels or signs • 6 mm: greenhouses, skylights, shed roofs, cladding panels, outdoor panelling • 8 and 10 mm: shed roofs, cladding panels, skylights, partion panels • 16 and 25 mm: roofing, cladding panels, veranda covering • 32 mm: verandas

Special product Akyver Confort Plus®
Akyver Confort Plus®, thanks to a new process, reduces the quantity of transmitted solar energy inside the glazed buildings by decreasing the diffusion of the near infrared rays. When the outside temperature is high, Akyver Confort Plus® can reach up to 25% temperature reduction compared to a standard Akyver sheet inside the building. Test CEBTP N° B 232-0-327 (08/2000) Energy transmission and solar factor obtained by the CEBTP (Building and Public works test centre) report n° B 232-0-327.

Cutting - Shaping

Water Resistance
Thin Akyver® and Akyver Sun Type® sheets may be cut with a sharp blade or a cutter. For other thicknesses, it is necessary to use a portable or fixed circular saw. The saw blades must be of high-speed steel or, preferably, steel with set-in tungsten carbide tips (80 teeth). For information, we recommend a circular saw with a minimum rotation speed of 3200 rpm (minimum linear speed of 48 m/s). The sheet must be fixed to the bench or wedged on the frame to avoid undesirable vibration.
We recommend the use of a compressed air nozzle (VENTURI type) with a minimum pressure of 6 bars (dry air).
The water resistance of the sheets is guaranteed by using aluminium profiles with neoprene joints. This water resistance can also be effected by using neutral mastics (list on demand). Before using silicone, make sure of its compatibility with polycarbonate. The closing of the flutes must be carried out by following the specifications of paragraph 8. The aluminium profile must also provide good ventilation inside the cells as well as adequate drainage.
Drilling Akyver® and Akyver Sun Type® sheets may be drilled at average speed with a sharp drill drill (drill at least 10 mm from the edge). Please take into consideration the expansion gap. Drilling diameter: D = screw diameter + 4 mm.

Preparation and Sealing The sheets are temporary sealed for transport and storage reasons. This protection has to be removed and replaced by a definitive tape when fitting the sheets, in order to avoid dust getting into the flutes. When using multiwall polycarbonate

sheets, it is essential to take the best information about the site where they are to be fitted: type of building, activity and exposure. Polycarbonate is permeable to water vapour (approx. 15 g/m2.24h.bar).
It is important to take this into account when recommending multiwall polycarbonate cladding. Thus the appearance of condensation may not be a cause of complaint.

Preparation and Sealing
Our Recommendations - Adverse Environments • General
use
Block the upper ends of the sheet with impermeable aluminium strip and the lower ends with microperforated tape and cover it with a U-shaped profile.
• Use
in a specific environment Industrial building with strong risk of dust (dust < 50 µ): sealed using dust-proof tape at the bottom of the sheets and micro-perforated tape at the top of the sheets. Sports buildings or buildings used by the public: sealed using micro-perforated tape at the top and bottom of the sheets.
Swimming pool or damp atmosphere: avoid the use of adhesive tape. Rather use aluminium U-shaped profile or polycarbonate which promotes the evacuation of condensate and cell ventilation.
Finishing Profile The lower parts of the flutes can be fitted with a U-shaped aluminium profile for finishing and protection of the adhesive. It is recommended to use a U-shaped profile when applying microperforated tape. microperforated tape
Waterproof Seal Our experience in using waterproof seals has led us to make the following recommendation: • y ou must make sure that the seal is compatible with the sheets, because the risk of micro-cracks occuring due to chemical attack on the sheets is considerable. For this reason, we recommend that you use a “ Santoprene® ” seal.

Technical information Storage
Akyver®
The sheets are supplied with polyethylene protection on both sides. For Akyver Sun Type® sheets, the side protected against ultraviolet light is covered with a blue printed film. These films must be removed immediately after fitting the sheets. Sheets stored outside must be protected against ambient conditions: sun, rain, etc. Pallets must be set on flat, dry ground. Take all necessary precautions during handling: • do not tighten straps excessively; • avoid bending which could drive the nails out of the pallet and damage the sheets; • do not generate scratches, dents or bulges on the surface or edge of the sheet. Sheets are supplied covered with polyethylene protective film on both sides. For sheets of Akyver Sun Type®, the UV treated side which will be exposed to the sun, is identified by a blue printed film and ink jet marking on the edge of the sheet. This film must be removed immediately after applying the sheets.
Cleaning • • • •
Akyver®
Avoid abrasive cleaners that might scratch Akyver®. Use soapy water or water containing a non-abrasive detergent. Do not use solvents or alkaline washing powders. Avoid cleaning when the sheets are hot.
A complete list of the products which are not compatible with polycarbonate is at your disposal. Please call us!

Akyver速
Fitting Akyver Sun Type速 Sheets for Skylights (curved sheets) Using the table below, the fitting width (W) in mm can be determined according to different radii of curvature whatever the length of the sheet. When making skylights, it is necessary to pre-bend the aluminium profiles in the workshop. Akyver Sun Type速 sheets will take the curvature of these profiles. (W) R = Radius of curvature 6 mm
