Self hypnosis techniques continue to grow in popularity as it is used for a wide variety of reasons such as a form of stress management and as a treatment for insomnia, just to name a few. Self hypnosis techniques are easily learned with a little practice and some helpful knowledge of this fascinating subject. So lets begin with our first self hypnosis lesson. Choose a time of day when it isn't likely that you'll be disturbed and find a comfortable place to sit down. With your feet flat on the floor and your arms by your sides on the armrests, begin breathing deeply and feel the tension in your body begin to dissipate with every breath you take. After a few moments of deep breathing, feel each part of your body begin to relax individually while you may experience the sensation of sinking even more comfortably into the chair. It is helpful to imagine yourself walking down a beautiful staircase, noting the details surrounding you while counting down from ten to one. With each step, imagine that you are getting more and more relaxed, falling deeper into the state of self hypnosis and even doubling the intensity of your trance with each stair you touch. To deepen your state of self hypnosis even further, try imagining yourself walking into a fragrant garden filled with a variety of flowers and greenery. While exploring the garden, envision using your senses to strengthen your hypnotic state. Hear the chatter of the bees and birds, feel the cool grass beneath your bare feet as you breathe in the aroma of the beautiful, colorful flowers. Once you are completely into a deepened state of self hypnosis, visualize what it is you wish to


achieve, or the positive outcome that you are seeking. For instance, if you want to stop smoking, picture yourself as a healthy, active non-smoker and imagine each of the positive benefits you'll have. If you want to lose weight, use self hypnosis techniques to see yourself eating healthier foods, following an exercise regimen and visualizing yourself becoming thinner. The typical self hypnosis session can last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, but can actually be as long as you like and vary based on your individual circumstances. A session will be the most successful at a time when you won't be tired or likely to fall asleep, which is the reason for sitting in a chair as opposed to lying down on a bed or couch. Use this simple technique as a method of bettering yourself and as a means of positive reinforcement that all of us need.
