Tree Services Tree Removal Sometimes a tree just has to be removed. It might be a safety issue or the need to clear space for construction, a landscaping project, or to get more sun on your yard or pool. Whatever the case might be, the professionals at Skyline Tree Service will assess the situation and choose the most efficient method depending upon the location of the tree as well as its condition and size.
Below are a few factors considered before removing a tree: • • •
Whether to use a bucket truck, crane, or climb the tree; How close we can bring machinery such as chippers and log trucks to the tree; Obstructions such as gates, power lines, pools, porches, or any other structure that might be in the way or could be damaged.
Tree Trimming While nature usually does a very nice job on its own, sometimes it just needs a little help to get things just right. Such is the case with trees. Left on their own, limbs can grow too close to a structure or the tree can grow too high or thick, cutting off more sun light than desired. Ideally, tree pruning should be done on young trees to encourage healthy, strong growth. Of course, that's not always practical and that's why we use different methods to prune trees. The first step for the professionals at Skyline Tree Service is an inspection of your trees. Methodsofpruningandtrimming We'll advise you of the best pruning method and an honest assessment of the results you can expect. Some methods of pruning we many use include: Elevating: Some trees have branches that are simply too low to the ground. Removing bottom branches provides clearance for walkways, lawn mowing, and provides more light for grass and shrubs. Thinning: While shade can be terrific on a hot summer day, sometimes a tree can block too much light. Perhaps you have a pool and want more sunlight on it. We'll trim it properly to give you the light you want while still keeping the tree healthy. Thinning also allows wind to blow through the tree instead of snapping branches or toppling the tree. Pruning:Pruning keeps your trees healthy and vibrant. How much to prune and what method will be determined by our experts once an assessment can be made for your individual property. Crown reduction: If a tree has grown too large for its permitted space, crown reduction pruning, may be a viable alternative to removal. When done properly, it lowers the overall height. This approach is best for ornamental trees such as plum, dogwoods, cherry and pear trees which may have been planted too close to a house. Topping: Tree topping, like crown reduction dramatically reduces the height of the tree but can cause quite a bit of stress to the tree (This should be a method of last resort). In some cases we may recommend removing the tree and replacing it with a younger tree.
Regardless of the type of pruning we use, the health of the tree is important. And in that regard, we will never use a method of climbing called spiking. Spiking entails the use of metal spikes to climb the tree and reach the areas that require pruning.
Tree Bracing Tree cabling and bracing is the installation of flexible steel strand cables and braces in trees to reduce stress damage from high winds, the weight of ice or snow, and heavy foliage. The goal is to help strengthen weak branches or limbs so that they are better able to withstand severe weather and to improve their longevity and reduce potential risk. Weak limbs are not always obvious, so you should contact Skyline Tree Service to assess your trees. We can help you identify particular weak points, and examine bark or large co-dominant stems, which can be signals of tree weakness. Maintenance following cable and brace installation is minimal but also important, and the hardware should be inspected periodically.
Stump Grinding / Removal Once a tree is removed, the stump is left behind. In most cases, you'll want to grind the stump eight to twelve inches below ground level to allow for the planting of grass, shrubs, or a new tree. If the tree was very large there may also be outer roots at or above ground level that need to be ground. This will be discussed during our initial inspection where the scope of work and the costs involved will be clearly indicated.
Brush Removal "Timber slash" consists of not only tree crowns, limbs and discarded logs, but also damaged standing trees as well as stumps. Poorly managed timber slash cleanup causes more than an unsightly appearance, it lowers equity and marketability, diminishes future timber quality, and contributes to erosion and fire potential. While it is likely that in the foreseeable future timber slash may have enough value as a "biomass fuel" to bring it into the production loop, at present it remains, for the most part, a problematic inconvenience. At Skyline Tree Service we have developed protocols for disposing of timber slash in a cost effective and useful manner. Call or request a quote today and we will be more than happy to assist you with all your Land Clearing and Strom Clean up needs.
