WELCOME LETTER Hello and welcome to the fourth Viewster Online Film Festival (#VOFF4). We’re particularly excited about this edition as our theme “Share it Forward,” brings to light some of the world’s most important and pressing issues. We’re incredibly proud to be able to showcase these films on a global scale. From human rights to environmental conservation through to the impact of war, social prejudice and the bid to make a difference, #VOFF4 covers an impressively wide range of subject matter. With 230 films from 47 different countries spanning every continent on the globe, we’re looking forward to sharing with you an insightful—and engagingly varied—festival program. As #VOFF4’s theme is “Share it Forward,” we’ve introduced a very special award for this edition: The Audience Award. #VOFF4 has connected with some amazing charities and the winner of the Audience Award will get to decide which organization will receive a $20,000 donation in his /her name. Our jury will also pick our overall festival winner and runner-ups from the shortlist chosen by you, the public, that will see the first place filmmaker receive $50,000. By connecting filmmakers directly to their audience, #VOFF levels the playing field and gives a voice to filmmakers who would otherwise go unheard. This is especially relevant given the nature of the films being screened as part of #VOFF4. Topics that deserve our attention but haven’t been given a platform to do so, now have the chance to capture the world’s attention. So, join us in championing cutting-edge, independent filmmaking and go share it forward!

AUDIENCE AWARD As #VOFF4’s theme is “Share it Forward,” we’ve introduced a very special award for this edition: The Audience Award, which will see one of our shortlisted charities, win $20,000. Upon submission of their films, all of our filmmakers were asked to nominate a charity to whom they would love to see win $20,000. From here we were able to make a charity shortlist and we’re proud to reveal our filmmaker selected list as follows: * The Climate Reality Project * Children’s Rights * Not for Sale * Doctors Without Borders * Thirst Relief International * Greenpeace * The Fred Hollows Foundation * War Child * Help-Portrait * Random Acts * Urban Light * Wiser * One for the Boys * Life in my shoes

www.climaterealityproject.org www.childrensrights.org www.notforsalecampaign.org www.doctorswithoutborders.org www.thirstrelief.org www.greenpeace.org/international/en www.hollows.org.au www.warchild.org.uk www.help-portrait.com www.therandomact.org www.urban-light.org www.wisergirls.org www.onefortheboys.com www.lifeinmyshoes.org

Each filmmaker has chosen to align their film with one of these charities. If their film receives the most shares, likes and votes during the voting period, thereby being crowned the winner of the Audience Award, their chosen charity will be lucky recipient of $20,000. All of us at #VOFF are incredibly excited about this award. Being able to bring worldwide attention to the issues raised by our filmmakers whilst giving something back and making a real difference to the lives of those in need is exactly what this edition of #VOFF is all about. So, if you get a chance between watching some of our excellent #VOFF titles, check out what these charities are doing, “Share it Forward” and get involved!

HOW PUBLIC VOTING WORKS With #VOFF, the audience has the strongest influence. Not only are they determining the Audience Award but they also are 100% responsible for deciding which movies will be shown to our Jury. The #VOFF voting system is measuring the engagement with each entry and ranking it accordingly. To support the titles of your choice, here is what you can do: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Share it on Facebook and Twitter Watch the entire movie Post your opinion in the comments Hit the “Like” Button for this movie on our free mobile appGet it here)

Every action counts as a vote. The more you do, the stronger your vote.

WIN A LLAMA! As a part of #VOFF4’s “Share it Forward” ethos, we’re helping to change the lives of others by rewarding our voters for sharing their favorite film. The more a voter enters their comments/shares/tweets about a film, the greater the chance they have of winning one of our #VOFF4 raffle prizes to change the lives of those in need. Llamas, ducks, an acre of rainforest, and enough stoves to keep a whole village cooking for many years to come, are amongst our top prizes. http://blog.viewster.com/voff4-win-good-karma

ABOUT Taking place four times a year, and with each edition having its own theme and $100,000 prize purse, the Viewster Online Film Festival is a unique, international online event that attracts, showcases and rewards series, short films, features, web series and documentaries that are not as famous as they should be. Moderated by an online community, the audience participates by engaging with their favorite entries through voting, sharing and discussing to select the finalists. The audience nominated finalists are then viewed by the Jury who decide on the winning filmmakers. #VOFF4 begins on November 13 and runs through to November 27, worldwide. This edition, “Share it Forward, is all about screening films which tackle some of the world’s most challenging issues, from environmental disaster to human rights, social prejudice and making a difference. To get your favorite entry in front of the jurors, it needs to get into the shortlist by the end of the voting period (Nov. 27, 3pm CET). The more you tell your community to watch, share, discuss and vote for this entry, the better its chances to make it to the final round. All the entries are completely free to watch on viewster.com until December 15.

THE #VOFF4 JURY After the public voting, the #VOFF4 Jury decides on the final winners of the festival. We are extremely proud to have Ted, Timo and Nora on our 2014 Jury.

Timo Vuorensola

“Festivals are an ages-old medium which hasn’t really renewed since the time of the Internet. Actually, film festivals seem to be the very antithesis of an Internet era. The limitations to the specific time, date, format and availability are all redundant in today’s world. For this reason, I find Viewster’s festival a progressive, future-oriented, tech-savvy way to promote films in the terms of today, to the audiences of today.” Timo Vuorensola, Film Producer

Nora Tschirner

“Successful European films often remain successes within their home markets. This is a pity because we Europeans can tell great stories. With the #VOFF, Viewster offers a new and open window for films of any country to an international audience. The attractive prize money goes directly to the creatives without any complex structures or application processes. That’s why I like the #VOFF”. Nora Tschirner, Actress

Ted Hope

“The most critical questions for filmmakers now are how to get your film seen, how to build momentum behind it, and can you ever earn any real money from your work. It used to be, that if you were not in the studio system, you’d play traditional film festivals and hope for the best— you’d be limited to who lived or came to the town where you screened. Now we can move that model online, and with it exponentially improve all odds. The internet allows all creators

to become their own distribution managers, but we all need proper platforms if we want to earn eyeballs, money, and appreciation. Viewster, with #VOFF, answers all three questions while providing exposure, excitement, and potential a whole bucket load of cash.”
 Ted Hope, Film Producer
