Health & Safety Program “Throughout our 23-year history, we have proudly maintained the highest health and safety standards on board our young fleet of river and ocean ships”, said Viking Chairman Torstein Hagen. “Our new Health & Safety Program builds upon this foundation and goes further. It is one of the most wellresearched and comprehensive COVID-19 prevention and mitigation plans in the travel industry.” Health & Safety Program highlights: Daily PCR Testing and Dedicated Laboratories – Quick non-invasive saliva PCR tests for all guests and crew will be conducted prior to embarkation and daily throughout the cruise itinerary through our on board full-scale PCR laboratories at sea and a network of dedicated shoreside labs for our river program. Air Purification – All our ships are already equipped with independent air handling units for each stateroom. Every ship in the fleet will be upgraded with short-wavelength ultraviolet (UV-C) lights and new high-density filters, which will sanitise the air and kill 99.99% of all bacteria and viruses. Health Checks – Guests will complete a digital Health Questionnaire prior to travel; at embarkation; and every day of their cruise itinerary. Temperatures will also be checked regularly using touchless thermometers and thermal cameras. Additional Sanitisation – New enhanced sanitisation protocols are in place to guarantee that surfaces are continually disinfected. We are also testing the use of sanitisation robots that utilise UV-C light to treat surfaces in guest and crew public areas – a cruise industry first. On Board Physical Distancing – More options for spaced seating while dining will allow for physical distancing; replacement of self-serve dining stations with crew service; and new capabilities will allow guests to watch more live events and enriching content through their in-room entertainment system. On Shore Enhancements – Initially only Viking shore excursions will be offered while in port. While ashore, Viking’s measures will meet or exceed local guidelines for physical distancing and other precautions. Grounded in proprietary research, the our Health & Safety Program was developed in partnership with an international team of scientific and medical advisors, including Raquel C. Bono, M.D., Viking’s Chief Health Officer.
