This constitutes a strategically good continuation of Cherrox. The production process has been technologically optimized to provide the end-user with enhanced functionality. It is rare to see such a close association between choice of material and benefits in terms of functional usage. The boot is lighter in weight and warmer than its predecessor, Cherrox. Kjetil Jansrud (Born 1985), Norwegian alpine skier, has consistently achieved his goals since starting his career in 2002. During the Olympics in Vancouver he won a silver medal in the Giant slalom. After a tough time with injuries Kjetil fought back and his determination paid off when he first won the bronze medal in down hill 2014 in the Sochi winter Olympics. Then he followed up by winning the gold medal in the Super G. A fantastic achievement!

Heidi Weng Heidi Weng (Born 1991) is a very successful Norwegian cross country skier. She has already achieved important goals, and 2013 was her break-through year as senior skier. BOA® CLOSURE SYSTEM The Boa® Closure System consists of an interwoven wire cable that runs through the entire shoe and is attached to a wheel. When you turn the wheel the cable is tightened all around the foot in a single movement and then the shoe fits the foot perfectly.

In pursuit of the perfect shoe, we are always on the lookout for the best technology – whether we develop it ourselves, or make use of our partners’ know how. Over the years we have gained several partners and developed our own technologies:

NATURAL RUBBER A rubber boot may look simple, but it’s been through a complicated, handmade process. Some models consist of up to 40 parts. By the time a rubber boot reaches the stores it will have been through more than 50 different operations. Natural rubber is a natural material extracted from the rubber tree. It is an ideal material for making waterproof footwear, because it has the advantage of retaining its softness and flexibility at both high and low temperatures. Grip, waterproofness, traction and abrasion resistance are some of the properties we use it for.

UGC®

LWR - LIGHT WEIGHT RUBBER

Ultimate Grip Concept UGC® – Viking’s own sole technology with focus on perfect grip. A soft rubber mixture of 60 shore creates the foundation. Soft rubber, stability and shock absorption – these are the three primary factors that determine how our UGC® sole works. Not only are they key factors, the main forces exerted to a shoe work within these frames – creating and relying on one thing: grip.

In Viking’s Light Weight Rubber boots, the rubber is combined with a new material which is less dense than normal compounds, making the final mix lighter than traditional rubber compounds. Still it is hard wearing and durable.

PU = POLYURETHANE Since there are millions of tiny air bubbles in the material it is very lightweight and act as a very good insulator. PU makes shoes more comfortable and maintains its shape – when it is compressed, it rebounds back to its original shape.

Viking Footwear was one of the first European companies to utilize GORE-TEX® technology in a wide range of technical footwear-products. GORE-TEX® consists of a membrane with an outer- and inner lining. It is waterproof, windproof and breathable, keeping feet dry and comfortable.

GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort This material offers optimized climate comfort for moderate weather conditions and a wide range of outdoor activities. Highly breathable and completely waterproof. GORE-TEX® Insulated Comfort The membrane is waterproof and a 20% wool blend insulation ensures warm feet. We use this material in shoes and boots built for winter conditions.

Footwear with this symbol is machine washable at 30 C. Just put them in the washing machine (no fabric softener, no tumble dry) and they are as good as new!

GORE-TEX®

GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort We use this material in trekking and trail footwear and footwear used in moderate to warm conditions. The material is known for optimal heat conductivity.

Footwear with this symbol is lined with a wool/polyester blend. The curly fibres of the wool trap air, creating a layer of insulation, to keep feet warm. An exceptional quality of wool is that it continues to insulate even when wet.

WASH

Today UGC® covers a wide range of topographies, terrains and varying climate conditions. UGC® can be used for high or low performance. Still, a hunting and trekking boot will have other characteristics when compared to a trailwalking and hiking shoe/boot. They require different flexibility. UGC® can also be adapted to fit wet and snowy conditions.

There are three different GORE-TEX® technologies:

WOOL BLEND

EVA = ETHYLENE VINYL ACETATE EVA is a widely used material, especially popular in midsoles. It is produced in different densities and is shock absorbing. EVA is very light and has high insulating properties.

SILICONATED RUBBER SPONGE This symbol indicates that the boots are delivered with a sponge for protection of the material.

SHOE BOX Some models are sold loose and some come in a box. This symbol indicates when they come in a box.

FEMALE LAST This shoe is especially adapted to the female last. It is narrower and snugger and secures the optimal stabilization for women’s feet.

MAX GRIP All outer soles in our Kids and Junior collections are made of Natural Rubber to ensure extra grip and non slip on icy and wet surfaces. Natural Rubber stays soft even in cold temperatures.

Do you want to reassure concerned parents of young children or provide assurance to discerning mountaineers? At Viking we have recognised that there is great value in transferring knowledge to people. Most people standing in a shoe shop are experts, then it naturally follows: The more they know about our products, the greater the chance that they will sell exactly that. Because they are genuinely interested. Therefore training and knowledge transfer are priority areas for Viking. We have our own ambulant Viking Academy and host e-training courses.

So what is Viking Academy? Light, easygoing, playful! When we created the training materials for selling children’s shoes, we envisaged a playful and easygoing style. The visual expression was so easy to understand that we are thinking about using it in future training brochures as well! Because if you make it attractive, tidy and well designed, learning becomes a pleasure. Therefore we put energy into illustrations, topical texts and the interactions between them. Such a style is often called “infographics” and its sole task is to make heavy information easy to understand. If the salespeople want to keep it and use it as a reference work, we see that as a bonus!

Our themed courses, in combination with thorough and simple visualised training brochures, create good and secure salespeople. Therefore we often travel around and hold courses for employees in the footwear industry. The training brochures are general, so what you learn will also apply to similar types of shoes, but we focus, naturally enough, on categories, materials and technologies that we know ourselves.
