BOA® CLOSURE SYSTEM The Boa® Closure System consists of an interwoven wire cable that runs through the entire shoe and is attached to a wheel. When you turn the wheel the cable is tightened all around the foot in a single movement and then the shoe fits the foot perfectly.

In pursuit of the perfect shoe, we are always on the lookout for the best technology – whether we develop it ourselves, or make use of our partners’ know how. Over the years we have gained several partners and developed our own technologies:

NATURAL RUBBER A rubber boot may look simple, but it’s been through a complicated, handmade process. Some models consist of up to 40 parts. By the time a rubber boot reaches the stores it will have been through more than 50 different operations. Natural rubber is a natural material extracted from the rubber tree. It is an ideal material for making waterproof footwear, because it has the advantage of retaining its softness and flexibility at both high and low temperatures. Grip, waterproofness, traction and abrasion resistance are some of the properties we use it for.

UGC®

LWR - LIGHT WEIGHT RUBBER

Ultimate Grip Concept UGC® – Viking’s own sole technology with focus on perfect grip. A soft rubber mixture of 60 shore creates the foundation. Soft rubber, stability and shock absorption – these are the three primary factors that determine how our UGC® sole works. Not only are they key factors, the main forces exerted to a shoe work within these frames – creating and relying on one thing: grip.

Today UGC® covers a wide range of topographies, terrains and varying climate conditions. UGC® can be used for high or low performance. Still, a hunting and trekking boot will have other characteristics when compared to a trailwalking and hiking shoe/ boot. They require different flexibility. UGC® can also be adapted to fit wet and snowy conditions.

In Viking’s Light Weight Rubber boots, the rubber is combined with a new material which is less dense than normal compounds, making the final mix lighter than traditional rubber compounds. Still it is hard wearing and durable.

WOOL BLEND Footwear with this symbol is lined with a wool/polyester blend. The curly fibres of the wool trap air, creating a layer of insulation, to keep feet warm. An exceptional quality of wool is that it continues to insulate even when wet.

WASH

Footwear with this symbol is machine washable at 30 C. Just put them in the washing machine (no fabric softener, no tumble dry) and they are as good as new!

PU = POLYURETHANE GORE-TEX

Since there are millions of tiny air bubbles in the material it is very lightweight and act as a very good insulator. PU makes shoes more comfortable and maintains its shape – when it is compressed, it rebounds back to its original shape.

Viking Footwear was one of the first European companies to utilize GORE-TEX® technology in a wide range of technical footwear-products. GORE-TEX® consists of a membrane with an outer- and inner lining. It is waterproof, windproof and breathable, keeping feet dry and comfortable.

EVA = ETHYLENE VINYL ACETATE

There are four different GORE-TEX® technologies: Outer material

GORE-TEX® Surround™ Product Technology Shoes with SURROUND™ Product Technology have a special GORE-TEX® laminate lining that is integrated into the shaft and surrounds the foot – from above as well as below. Together with the open sole construction, this creates an absolutely waterproof and all-around highly breathable shoe.

EVA is a widely used material, especially popular in midsoles. It is produced in different densities and is shock absorbing. EVA is very light and has high insulating properties.

GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort We use this material in trekking and trail footwear and footwear used in moderate to warm conditions. The material is known for optimal heat conductivity. GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort This material offers optimized climate comfort for moderate weather conditions and a wide range of outdoor activities. Highly breathable and completely waterproof.

SILICONATED RUBBER SPONGE This symbol indicates that the boots are delivered with a sponge for protection of the material.

SHOE BOX Some models are sold loose and some come in a box. This symbol indicates when they come in a box.

GORE-TEX® Insulated Comfort The membrane is waterproof and a 20% wool blend insulation ensures warm feet. We use this material in shoes and boots built for winter conditions.

MAX GRIP

This shoe is especially adapted to the female last. It is narrower and snugger and secures the optimal stabilization for women’s feet.

All outer soles in our Kids and Junior collections are made of Natural Rubber to ensure extra grip and non slip on icy and wet surfaces. Natural Rubber stays soft even in cold temperatures.

Evaluation: This rubber hunting boot is designed to wear in difficult terrain so the focus has been on a stiff sole and good grip. The toe cap has been fortified and the ankle area is designed with three layers of natural rubber for support and abrasions resistance. The Ultimate Grip Concept outsole is the same as for the mountain boots. The shaft is 40 cm high and should cover most terrain. Trophy has been tested in a period of 4 months so the test cannot tell anything about creasing or other damages due to long term use. For the test Trophy fulfills all requirements a well equipped hunting boot should have.

Our footwear products are well regarded. As a consequense they get testet all the time by different publications. Often they get recommended as a ‘best buy’.

Svensk Jakt

Evaluation: Made using a lightweight rubber compound. Very good fit. Sits well on the foot. The reinforcements over the toe, along the edge and in the ankle area combined with the rigid block make it one of the most solid and comfortable boots to wear for walking. One of the best in uneven terrain, works well in sloping terrain. Unevenness in the terrain can be felt through the sole to a very limited extent. The grip is superb on a soft surface and when it is hard and icy.

Evaluation: Viking Hunter is described as a high quality hunting boot with well done seams. The sole still allows a close contact to the ground. The shaft is broader than other boots and allows for an easy entrance. Comfortable fit and good stabilization of the foot. The inlays sole adds to the cushioning and the feet feels at ease. The outer material is slightly dull.

Evaluation: Colorful trail shoe in orange, available in black for the more discreet. Very stable in rough terrain, good grip on the surface. The cuff wit zipper around the shoe is smooth and prevents water, rocks or sand entering the shoe. After running on a wet trail our socks were still dry. The trail shoe still has potential for runners running on the forefoot and when the speed is accelerating. We recommend this shoe for easy runs no matter how wet or dirty the trails are. If it is the perfect shoe for the “Birkebeinerløpet” is up to you, but if you are used to competition shoes this one might be a bit “too much”.

Evaluation: Good and stable outersole, very good grip, good cushioning. The boot is easy to put on, good fit and spare room for en extra pair of socks. Terrain has a snow lock. The cuff is easy to fasten or to lock with an elastic band. Reinforcements in toe and heel area. Best allround low cut boot. Recommended by the magazine Villmarksliv.

Evaluation: Anaconda has excellent fit and feels comfortable. The outer sole provides good grip, especially on trails in forests and low alpine areas. The reinforced heel counter, together with the torsion stability and excellent cushioning, makes Anaconda a well designed trail shoe. Excellent inlay sole with extra shock absorption. The BOA® Closure System is perceived as a bonus, it works well and adds to the aggressive design. Loops for attaching gaiters are a plus. The downside is the weight, a bit too heavy compared with other trail shoes. But it is solid and rated as an overall good functional shoe for walks in the outdoors.

Product tested: Viking Tyin Product score: Best buy value/price Evaluation: Tyin is a solid boot with a good fit. Easy lacing and stop loops at ankle height. Vikings own sole provides a good grip on various terrains; Tyin might be one of the best boots in the test in terms on grip. Small stones can get stuck in the sole profile. The boot provides good cushioning. An extra rubber toe protects the front of the boot. A medium stiffness of the sole allows for a moderate backpack. The ankle support is acceptable but should be stiffer for hiking with a heavy backpack. This is a good all-round boot with very good grip.
